Health (Health) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/health.2014.618273
Abstract: Objective: The objectives were to characterize the scientific production on Health-Related Quality of Life of pregnant women, identify the areas that are most affected during pregnancy and puerperal period and identify the instruments used to assess quality of life related to health in pregnant women. Methods: For the integrative review, 11 articles published from 2006 to 2013 in the PUBMED, MEDLINE, CINAHL, SCOPUS and SCIELO were selected. Result: Data showed scarce publication from nursing professionals, prevalence of non-experimental studies conducted mainly in Brazil. The most commonly instruments used were the WHOQOL-BREF and SF-12. The presence of pain, nausea and vomiting, depression, low education, younger age and absence of partner negatively affect the quality of life of pregnant women. Practicing physical activity and being socially supported during pregnancy favour a better quality of life. In the domain of social relations, sexuality was the only affected facet. Conclusion: Gaps in the level of evidence considered weak were identified. We suggest bigger role of nurses in research on the subject so that there will be the development of effective interventions to support nursing practice and ensure quality care and consequently improve the quality of life of women in pregnancy and childbirth.

Abstract:

Exploratory study was conducted in the Crato Public Prison, State of Ceará, Brazil, aiming to understand the knowledge and experiences related to the preventive aspects of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) in the prison context. The target population of the study consisted of 14 female inmates, 10 of whom agreed to participate. Data collection occurred in June 2012 through recorded semi-structured individual interviews. We investigated quantitative, socio-demographic and sexual variables. In qualitative data analysis, we applied the Meaning Interpretation Method. The female vulnerability was aggravated by the early onset of sexual activity, lack of knowledge about STDs, non-adoption of preventive measures and history of prostitution. The following categories emerged from the qualitative assessment: Knowledge about STD/AIDS versus Personal Experience; Use of contraception as STD/AIDS prevention within the Public Jail; Habits of inmates: alcohol and tobacco; and Characterization of the conjugal visit area.

Abstract: This is a cross-sectional, correlational and quantitative study conducted on 210 postpartum women from January to July 2013 at the breastfeeding outpatient clinic of a public maternity. The study was carried out in order to assess the determining factors in maintaining an exclusive breastfeeding in the first month of the newborn’s life, the participation of the nurse in encouraging this process, and the reasons leading to a premature weaning. Prior births proved to be a positive factor for exclusive breastfeeding (Odds Ratio (OR) 0.359; CI 95% 0.137 - 0.941; p = 0.031). The absence of a nurse in the medical appointments resulted in a threefold risk to have no prenatal exclusive breastfeeding guidance whatsoever (OR 3.025; CI 95% 1.567 - 5.840; p = 0.001). The reported reasons for a premature weaning were difficulty latching-on, cracked nipples, poor milk that does not satiate the baby’s hunger, and production of little or no milk at all. The results provide information for the adoption of strategies during pregnancy and the postpartum period aimed to promote an exclusive breastfeeding, checking for the possible influence of the woman’s personal circumstances in her choosing exclusive breastfeeding, as well as the participation of the nurse in the mother’s decision.

Abstract: Introduction: The postpartum period can have a significant physical, emotional, and social impact on the quality of a woman’s life. Most postpartum research has focused on physical complications and only a few studies have specifically investigated quality of life. The purpose of this study was to explore predictors affecting the quality of life of postpartum Brazilian mothers. Study Design and Methods: A cross-sectional Quality of Life survey was performed in 210 Brazilian mothers during the early postpartum period. Data were collected using an interview technique and two instruments: 1) a maternal questionnaire and the 2) Maternal Postpartum Quality of Life tool/Brazilian version. The association between maternal characteristics and quality of life in the post-partum period was investigated with bivariate and multivariable analyses. Results: Mothers who had the best Quality of Life were white, registered students, 30 - 40 years of age, who were married or living with a partner, and without physical complaints; in addition, they had at least an 8th grade education, more than 4 children, and had attended more than 8 prenatal visits with a nurse. The stepwise model indicated that white race (p < 0.05) and married or living with a partner (p < 0.05) were the best predictors of Quality of Life in postpartum women. Conclusions and Clinical Implications: Marital status and race conditions may predict quality of life in postpartum Brazilian mothers. In addition, improved knowledge concerning the postpartum, maternal experience may help develop health interventions to enhance the quality of life of this population.

Abstract: In front of the problematic the puerperal HIV-infected lives because of the virus of the human being immunodeficiency (HIV), we stand out the importance of the stimulation of the mother and baby pyschological bonding. The pyschological bonding is essential so that an effective bond is formed between the binomial. The considered objective of this study was: to validate an educative video for the promotion of the pyschological bonding between puerperal HIV-infected and their children. The development of the work occurred by the means of the construction of an educative video for the stimulation of the fondness, offering orientations for this clientele concerning the importance of the same, demonstrating that it is possible to develop it even being a soropositiva for the HIV. Until now, the stages of construction of the video had been carried through, as well as its appreciation by the technical and content judges. The data are being collected in the Clinic of Sexually Transmissible Illnesses of a public hospital of the city of Fortaleza that had begun in April 2008, with a foreseen date to be finished in September of the same year. It is worth to stand out that action had already the approval for the Committee of Ethics in Research of the Federal University of the Ceará. In the present study we are initiating the collection of data, that preliminarily comes demonstrating acceptance of the proposal on the part of the clientele and the involved professionals of health as a strong stimulator of the fondness between mother and son

Abstract: this systematic literature review used nursing studies about "ethics" published in the scielo database. the objective was to identify the ethical dilemmas of nursing, based on a literature review of nursing publications between 2002 and 2006. forty publications were found, of which seventeen were selected. the analysis of the articles permitted the organization of the following categories: ethics, the health system and nursing practice; ethics and nursing teaching-learning; ethics and nursing care. we noticed that the authors attributed a multidimensional approach to ethical issues. however, we considered it necessary to pay closer attention to the ethical aspects involved in nursing practice. there is a clear need for further studies, showing new ethical dilemmas experienced by nurses, so that they can contribute to a change in attitude, with outcomes for professional practice.
