Pyranine Fluorescence Quenching for the Characterization of Solutions  [PDF]

Abstract: Fluorescence quenching of pyranine by tryptophan, phenylalanine, and nicotinic acid was investigated by using steady state and time resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. On a comparative basis, nicotinic acid is a very strong quencher of pyranine fluorescence, tryptophan is a moderate quencher and phenylalanine is a weak quencher. The strong quenching is the result of the hydrogen bonding complex between pyranine and amine which existed in both tryptophan and nicotinic acid. Contact complex will form between phenylalanine and pyranine which is the reason of quenching of pyranine by phenylalanine. Associates will form in tryptophan and phenylalanine due to the zwitterion +H3NRCOO- or/and hydrogen bond. Higher concentrations favor the formation of aggregates in the supersaturated solution which made the quenching curve different from unsaturated solution dramatically.

Abstract: CTSD (Cathepsin D) is a key enzyme in yolk formation, and it primarily affects egg yolk weight and egg weight. However, recent research has mostly focused on the genomic structure of the CTSD gene and the enzyme’s role in pathology, and less is known about the enzyme’s functions in chickens. In this paper, the correlations between CTSD polymorphisms and egg quality traits were analyzed in local Shandong chicken breeds. CTSD polymorphisms were investigated by PCR-SSCP (polymerase chain reaction single strand conformation polymorphism) and sequencing analysis. Two variants were found to be associated with egg quality traits. One variant (2614T>C), located in exon 3, was novel. Another variant (5274G>T), located in intron 4, was previously referred to as rs16469410. Overall, our results indicated that CTSD would be a useful candidate gene in selection programs for improving yolk traits.

Abstract: Implementation of collective bargaining system in China is not only an issue of straightening out the labor relationship, but an economic issue of economics and even a social issue. In China, a lot of difficulties still exist in implementation of collective bargaining system, including obstacles in terms of system and obstruction in terms of institution. The three labor rights are the basis and guarantee of collective bargaining system and collective bargaining separating from the three labor rights may cause the system to be a mere formality. An analysis of the reasons for vacancy in the collective bargaining system can be reconstructed from the following three aspects, namely, prescribing the right to strike of laborers, reforming the current wage system and funds system of the trade unions, positively carrying out industrial collective bargaining and promoting establishment of multi-level collective bargaining to help resolve predicament in collective bargaining faced up in China.

Abstract: Percival is a character in Woolf’s novel The Waves, about whom few studies have been made about because throughout the novel he is silent and absent, which makes him unnoticeable. However, in spite of his absence, he is repeatedly present in other six characters’ monologues. His absent presence makes his image more mysterious and ambiguous. In a sense, he plays a most important role in the novel. He could be interpreted in different, even contradictory ways.

Abstract: The quantitative relationship between the nonmetallic particle's redistribution in metal and electromagnetic force (EMF) was developed during the process of unidirectional solidification in electromagnetic field. It was pointed theoretically that controlling the cycle of the electromagnetic field and the solidified parameters could produce a new composite material in which the content of the particles is a function of the unidistance from the growing interface. Experimental results show that by applying periodical electromagnetic force to the unidirectionally solidified hypereutectic Al-19%Si alloy, the primary silicon-rich particles distributed layer by layer, and the surface hardness fluctuated periodically. Through adjusting the frequency of the electromagnetic force and the rate of the solidifying interface, the width between the two adjacent layers could be changed freely.

Abstract: The sedative compounds in two traditional Chinese medicines were studied. These compounds are present in the medicinal herbs “Zao Ren” and “Lu Lu Tong”. The samples were first extracted by ethanol and pre-treated by ultrasonic wave, and then they were separated and qualitatively analyzed by high-resolution GC-EI-MS and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) systems. We have found that the Chinese herb medicines “Zao Ren” contained clonazepam (120 ppm), whereas “Lu Lu Tong” Chinese drug contained estazolam (270 ppm). The Analytical measurements were done by using three different diagnostic indices using the GC-retention time of the GC-EI-MS total –ion–chromatogram; single stage EI-MS analysis identification and from the measurements of the retention time in the HPLC.
