On the total curvature of minimal annuli in $R^3$ and Nitsche's conjecture

Abstract: We present a proof of the generalized Nitsche's conjecture proposed by W.H.Meeks III and H. Rosenberg: For $t\ge 0$, let $P_t$ denote the horizontal plane of height $t$ over the $x_1,x_2$ plane. Suppose that $M \subset R^3$ is a minimal annulus with the boundary contains in $P_0$ and that $M$ intersects every $P_t$ in a simple closed curve. Then $M$ has finite total curvature. As a consequence, we show that every properly embedded minimal surface of finite topology in $R^3$ with more than one end has finite total curvature.
Target Image Classification through Encryption Algorithm Based on the Biological Features  [PDF]

Abstract: In order to effectively make biological image classification and identification, this paper studies the biological owned characteristics, gives an encryption algorithm, and presents a biological classification algorithm based on the encryption process. Through studying the composition characteristics of palm, this paper uses the biological classification algorithm to carry out the classification or recognition of palm, improves the accuracy and efficiency of the existing biological classification and recognition approaches, and compares it with existing main approaches of palm classification by experiments. Experimental results show that this classification approach has the better classification effect, the faster computing speed and the higher classification rate which is improved averagely by 1.46% than those of the main classification approaches.
An Estimation of Achievable Rate for Digital Transmissions over MIMO Channels  [PDF]

Abstract: Achievable rate (AR) is significant to communications. As to multi-input multi-output (MIMO) digital transmissions with finite alphabets inputs, which greatly improve the performance of communications, it seems rather difficult to calculate accurate AR. Here we propose an estimation of con-siderable accuracy and low complexity, based on Euclidean measure matrix for given channel states and constellations. The main contribution is explicit expression, non-constraints to MIMO schemes and channel states and constellations, and controllable estimating gap. Numerical results show that the proposition is able to achieve enough accurate AR computation. In addition the estimating gap given by theoretical deduction is well agreed.

Abstract: Tourists’ revisit intention is of great significance to the sustainable development of Chinese tourism characteristic towns. This study took Gankeng Hakka Town which is a typical Chinese tourism characteristic town as an example, using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) method of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to build a structural equation model regarding tourists’ revisit intention. This model included ten paths and four variables which were tourist satisfaction, tourist motivation, tourists’ perceived value and tourists’ revisit intention. Through CFA, this paper found out the dimensions of the three variables (tourist satisfaction, tourist motivation, tourists’ perceived value), also tested the reliability and validity of the measurement items. Through SEM, CMIN/DF, RMR, RMSEA, GFI, AGFI, NFI, RFI, IFI, TLI, CFI, PGFI, PCFI and PNFI were selected to evaluate the degree of finesse between the model and the data. The results indicate that the tourist satisfaction has a direct and significant effect on the tourists’ revisit intention; tourist motivation and tourists’ perceived value have no direct influence on tourists’ revisiting intention, but they can influence the revisiting intention through the influence of tourist satisfaction. Therefore, tourist satisfaction has a mediating effect in the mechanism of the entire model. Among them, the factors of “Increase Knowledge”, “Rich Atmosphere” and “Satisfactory Landscape” have great influence on tourists’ revisit intention. It is suggested that the construction of Chinese tourism characteristic towns should focus on the development of scenic cultural atmosphere and park landscape in the future.
Searching ChIP-seq genomic islands for combinatorial regulatory codes in mouse embryonic stem cells

Abstract: Based on our analyses of the ES gene expression profiles and binding sites of potential cofactors in vicinity of the ChIP-seq TF binding locations, we identified a list of co-binding features that show significantly different characteristics between different gene expression patterns (activated or repressed gene expression in ES cells) at a false discovery rate of 10%. Gene classification with a subset of the identified features achieved up to 20% improvement over classification only based on the ChIP-seq TFs. More than 1/3 of reasoned regulatory roles of cofactor candidates involved in these features are supported by existing literatures. Finally, the predicted target genes of the majority candidates present expected expression change in another independent data set, which serves as a supplementary validation of these candidates.Our results revealed a list of combinatorial genomic features that are significantly associated with gene expression in ES cells, suggesting potential cofactors of the ChIP-seq TFs for gene regulation.A set of core transcription factors (TFs) have been reported to regulate the self-renewal and pluripotency of mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells. Oct4 has long been regarded as one of the master regulators in ES cells. Oct4-deficient embryos fail to produce pluripotent inner cell mass [1]. Abstract: A murine CD4+ thymocyte subset with phenotype of TCRαβ+ 3G11 6C10 CD4+ CD8 CD69+/- HSAmed/lo contains the cells in relatively functional matured status. The functional property of the cells in this subset is characterized by the unique pattern of cytokine production at transitional stage from Th0 to Th2 type with the latter being the dominant type. After being co-cultured with murine thymic medullary epithelial cell line (MTEC1) cells, a murine thymic medullary type epithelial cell line, the TCRαβ+ 3G11 6C10 CD4+ CD8 CD69+/- HSAmed/lo thymocytes, has exhibited significantly higher levels of proliferation capability and IL-6 production, whereas the production of IL-4 and IL-10 is suppressed after co-culturing with MTECl. By contrast, MTECl could not induce thymocytes to secrete Thl type of cytokines. The results suggest that MTECl can regulate functional status of this thymocyte subset and induce them to develop into a specialized Th2 subset.
Characterization of a murine thymic CD4+ T cell subset-TCRαβ+ 3G11 6C10 CD4+ CD8 thymocytes

Abstract: The presence of a relatively mature CD4+ CD8 (SP) T cell subset in mouse thymus has been demonstrated. Composing of 10% of total CD4SP thymocytes, this subset is defined by the absence of 3G11 and 6C10 expression with a phenotype of CD69+/ , HSAmed/lo and heterogeneous for Qa-2 expression. The proliferation capability of TCRαβ+ 3Gl l 6C10 CD4+ CD8 thymocytes was high while using Con A stimulus. And Con A stimulation could result in secretion of IL4, IL-10, IL-6 and a little amount of IFNγ. IL-2 was barely detectable. This is distinct from typical Th0 type cytokines. The cells of this subset were NK1.1 negative, but strongly expressed GATA-3 mRNA. The results suggest that the CD4+ subset of 3G11 6C10 NK1.1 phenotype possesses immunocompetent cells with functions characteristic of Th2-like cytokines, which may indicate the cells at transitional status from Th0 to Th2, with a propensity to Th2.

Tour Route Recommendation Begins with Multimodal Classification

Abstract: Location estimation of tourist photos by classifi-cation is challenging due to the unstable and less-discriminative features of photos taken in each city. In this paper, we originally deal with this issue in an alternative way, which begins with but is not limited to classification. We explore textual, temporal, geographic as well as visual information to make tour route recommendation. Given a query photo, we recommend a city by first classifying the photo to get scores that indicate its similarities with photos from each city, and then evaluating the attractiveness of each city by modeling its hotness potential. We do not aim at finding out where the photo was taken exactly; instead, we combine the similarity and hotness potentials according to the user’s preference and recommend the city that has the highest combination value. Then, we suggest the next city by further modeling the correlation and interaction between cities pairwise with two potentials, i.e., proximity and co-visitedness. Applying the greedy algorithm, we recommend one city at a time and eventually generate a tour route consist-ing of all the recommended cities in order. Furthermore, in order to show different visual and cultural character-istics across cities, we classify photos of each city into four categories, i.e., food, landscape, man-made and person. In experiments, we collected a database containing 41792 photos of 35 important cities along the silkroad and provided a query sample for tour route recommendation. Experimental results have shown the effectiveness and reliability of our recommendation model.
