An Empirical Study on the Relationship between Green Supplier Development and Firm Performance  [PDF]

Abstract: Suppliers have important influence to the enterprise in terms of product and service cost, quality and delivery. Enterprises need to implement supplier development to improve suppliers’ supply capabilities, and promote partnership with suppliers, so as to achieve the improvement of business efficiency. This paper defines green supplier development, divides them into direct green supplier development and indirect green supplier development, and puts forward the research hypothesis of the relationship between green supplier development and supplier relationship and firm performance. Then, using the method of questionnaire survey to collect data, according to the statistical analysis of the 259 questionnaires, the results show that the first, direct green supplier development has positive influence on the economic performance and environmental performance, but the influence of indirect green supplier development on the economic performance of enterprises is not significant. Second, supplier partnership plays a role in the influence of green supplier development on the economic performance and environmental performance.
Confidence regions for high quantiles of a heavy tailed distribution

Abstract: Estimating high quantiles plays an important role in the context of risk management. This involves extrapolation of an unknown distribution function. In this paper we propose three methods, namely, the normal approximation method, the likelihood ratio method and the data tilting method, to construct confidence regions for high quantiles of a heavy tailed distribution. A simulation study prefers the data tilting method.
EigenGP: Gaussian Process Models with Adaptive Eigenfunctions

Abstract: Gaussian processes (GPs) provide a nonparametric representation of functions. However, classical GP inference suffers from high computational cost for big data. In this paper, we propose a new Bayesian approach, EigenGP, that learns both basis dictionary elements--eigenfunctions of a GP prior--and prior precisions in a sparse finite model. It is well known that, among all orthogonal basis functions, eigenfunctions can provide the most compact representation. Unlike other sparse Bayesian finite models where the basis function has a fixed form, our eigenfunctions live in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space as a finite linear combination of kernel functions. We learn the dictionary elements--eigenfunctions--and the prior precisions over these elements as well as all the other hyperparameters from data by maximizing the model marginal likelihood. We explore computational linear algebra to simplify the gradient computation significantly. Our experimental results demonstrate improved predictive performance of EigenGP over alternative sparse GP methods as well as relevance vector machine.

Abstract: With the rapid development of Chinese economic, enterprise cost control and management of enterprise face enormous challenges. Traditional cost control and management are almost dominated by after-costing in mainland. Prior-cost estimation is generally based on statistical result of historical cost data. The theories of cost accounting and Enterprise Resource Planning are uses for reference. The prior-estimation of process-based cost of railway transportation equipments is researched and practiced from the product manufacturing process. In the view of refined management of costs, the constitution of the process cost is analyzed in manufacturing process of railway transportation equipments, and it is presented that a mathematical model of cost estimation based on working procedure. Enterprise could know the process cost of a product before it is manufactured by it. That provides a reliable basis for controlling and managing the enterprises prosecution cost. Then the process cost estimation based on working procedure of a gear is selected as an example, which is one of the gears in starting transmission of the railway locomotive diesel engine.
Parallel-Transmission: A New Usage of Multi-Radio Diversity in Wireless Mesh Network  [PDF]

Abstract: To fully utilize the diversity of multi-radio, a new parallel transmission method for wireless mesh network is proposed. Compared with conventional packet transmission which follows “one flow on one radio”, it uses the radio diversity to transmit the packets on different radios simultaneously. Three components are presented to achieve parallel-transmission, which are control module, selection module and schedule module. A localized selecting algorithm selects the right radios based on the quality of wireless links. Two kinds of distributed scheduling algorithms are implemented to transmit packets on the selected radios. Finally, a parallel-adaptive routing metric is presented. Simulation results by NS2 show that this parallel-transmission scheme could enhance the average throughput of network by more than 10%.
A Novel Method for Fast Change-Point Detection on Simulated Time Series and Electrocardiogram Data

Abstract: Although Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) statistic is a widely used method, some weaknesses exist in investigating abrupt Change Point (CP) problems, e.g. it is time-consuming and invalid sometimes. To detect abrupt change from time series fast, a novel method is proposed based on Haar Wavelet (HW) and KS statistic (HWKS). First, the two Binary Search Trees (BSTs), termed TcA and TcD, are constructed by multi-level HW from a diagnosed time series; the framework of HWKS method is implemented by introducing a modified KS statistic and two search rules based on the two BSTs; and then fast CP detection is implemented by two HWKS-based algorithms. Second, the performance of HWKS is evaluated by simulated time series dataset. The simulations show that HWKS is faster, more sensitive and efficient than KS, HW, and T methods. Last, HWKS is applied to analyze the electrocardiogram (ECG) time series, the experiment results show that the proposed method can find abrupt change from ECG segment with maximal data fluctuation more quickly and efficiently, and it is very helpful to inspect and diagnose the different state of health from a patient's ECG signal.
Implementation of holonomic quantum computation through engineering and manipulating environment

Abstract: We consider an atom-field coupled system, in which two pairs of four-level atoms are respectively driven by laser fields and trapped in two distant cavities that are connected by an optical fiber. First, we show that an effective squeezing reservoir can be engineered under appropriate conditions. Then, we show that a two-qubit geometric CPHASE gate between the atoms in the two cavities can be implemented through adiabatically manipulating the engineered reservoir along a closed loop. This scheme that combines engineering environment with decoherence-free space and geometric phase quantum computation together has the remarkable feature: a CPHASE gate with arbitrary phase shift is implemented by simply changing the strength and relative phase of the driving fields.
Duchesnea Phenolic Fraction Inhibits Tumor Growth through Restoring the Th1/Th2 Balance in U14 Cervical Cancer Bearing Mice  [PDF]

Abstract: Duchesnea indica (Andr.) Focke has been traditionally used to treat cancer in Asian countries for centuries. In the present study, transplanted U14 cervical cancer mouse model was used to evaluate the antitumor and immunomodulatory activity of Duchesnea phenolic fraction (DPF). ELISA and RIA assay were employed to measured the serum concentration of Th1/Th2 cytokines (IL-2, IL-4, IFN-γ and TNF-α). Administration with 0.25 g/kg, 0.5 g/kg and 1 g/kg DPF significantly reduced the tumor weight by 34.37%, 43.89% and 56.28%, respectively, as compared to the tumor control group. Furthermore, the serum level of IL-2, IFN-γ and TNF-α increased and IL-4 level decreased in a dose-dependent manner during DPF treatment, indicating that the antitumor activity of DPF may be associated with the decrease of TNF-α level and restoration of the balance of Th1/Th2 cell responses. These data suggested that DPF, a mixture of plant polyphenols, had potent anticancer activity which was in part accomplished by its immunomodulatory ability.
Sintering and Characterization of (Li, Sb, Ta)-Modified (Na, K)NbO3 Lead-Free Ceramics

Abstract: Lead-free alkaline niobate-based piezoceramics, (Na0.52K0.435Li0.045)Nb0.87Sb0.08Ta0.05O3 (abbreviated KNLNT-S8), were prepared by conventional solid-state sintering method. The effects of sintering temperature on microstructure and piezoelectric properties of the (Li, Sb, Ta)-modified (Na, K) NbO3 were investigated. Microstructure of the samples sintered at different temperatures was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy. The KNLNT-S8 sample sintered at 1100°C possessed highest piezoelectric constant 33 and high-field piezoelectric strain coefficient ?33 of 332 pC/N and 530 pm/V, respectively, with electromechanical coupling factors of 0.52 and of 0.48.
