SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING USING NEURAL NETWORKS

Abstract: Neural networks offer an alternative approach both for identification and control of nonlinear processes in process engineering. The lack of software tools for the design of controllers based on neural network models is particularly pronounced in this field. SIMULINK is properly a widely used graphical code development environment which allows system-level developers to perform rapid prototyping and testing. Such graphical based programming environment involves block-based code development and offers a more intuitive approach to modeling and control task in a great variety of engineering disciplines. In this paper a review of SIMULINK based Neural Tool has been done for analysis and design of multivariable neural based control systems. Application areas of ANNs include system identification and control (vehicle control, process control), game-playing and decision making (backgammon, chess, racing), pattern recognition (radar systems, face identification, object recognition), sequence recognition (gesture, speech, handwritten text recognition), medical diagnosis, financial applications,knowledge discovery in databases,visualization and filtering.
Predicting Mortality and Functional Outcomes after Ischemic Stroke: External Validation of a Prognostic Model  [PDF]

Abstract: Background: We previously developed predictive models for 3-month mortality and modified Rankin Score (mRS) after ischemic stroke. Aim: The aim was to test model validity for 3-month mortality and mRS after ischemic stroke in two independent data sets. Methods: Our derivation models used data from 451 subjects with ischemic stroke in 1999 enrolled in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Stroke Study (GCKNSS). We utilized two separate cohorts of ischemic strokes through GCKNSS (460 in 2005 and 504 in 2010) to assess external validity by utilizing measures of agreement between predicted and observed values, calibration, and discrimination using Transparent Reporting of a multivariable prediction model for Individual Prognosis or Diagnosis. Results: The 3-month mortality model performed well in the validation datasets with an average prediction error (Brier score) of 0.045 for 2005 and 0.053 for 2010 and excellent discrimination with an area under the curve of 0.86 (95% CI: 0.79, 0.93) for 2005 and 0.84 (0.76, 0.92) for 2010. Predicted 3-month mRS also performed well in the validation datasets with R2 of 0.57 for 2005 and 0.50 for 2010 and a root mean square error of 0.85 for 2005 and 1.05 for 2010. Predicted mRS tended to be higher than actual in both validation datasets. Re-estimation of the model parameters for age and severe white matter hyperintensity in both 2005 and 2010, and for diabetes in 2005, improved predictive accuracy. Conclusions: Our previously developed stroke models performed well in two study periods, suggesting validity of the model predictions.

Abstract:
As a result of the two major earthquakes that struck Nepal at 11:56 am on 25 April, and 12 May 2015, nearly 9,000 lives and over half a million homes have been destroyed. In this connection, the paper tries to assess the socio- demographic impact of Nepal earthquake 2015 with reference to Sindhuli district. The Sindhuli district of Nepal was one of the highly affected districts among the fourteen severely destructed districts of the central part of Nepal, was purposively selected among them for the study purpose. The paper utilized the both primary and secondary data. The survey found that the earthquakes had unevenly affected the age, gender, poorer, rural locations relative to the urban and less poor areas. It also found that women and children had comparatively fallen victim to anxiety, trauma, depression, feeling helpless, loss of interest (passive) and irrational fear. During the survey, the study found that the NGOs, INGOs, Private and Personal support agencies/actors had played significant role in distribution of relief package at Sindhuli district of Nepal. The distributions of relief materials were challenging because of lack of road connectivity to reach at many earthquake affected villages in Sindhuli district.

Abstract: A vital role is played by FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in enhancing the growth and economic status of the country. Most of the countries in the developing phase depend on FDI to foster their economy as they were facing the scarcity of hard cash for their development process. High growth performance experienced by Taiwan economy largely relies on the FDI; to attract the foreign capital inflows the Taiwan government work on many policies. But the most important factors which influence and attract the foreign capital inflows are in academic debate. On the basis of macroeconomic theory knowledge, this research paper will shed light on the econometric analysis on the data of Taiwans total foreign direct investment and factors influencing it, which contains exchange rate, inflation rate, Taiwan stock exchange index, import, and business income tax during the years of 1998 to 2013.
Mixing of blackbodies: Increasing our view of inflation to 17 e-folds with spectral distortions from Silk damping

Abstract: Silk damping in the early Universe, before and during recombination, erases anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) on small scales. This power, which disappears from anisotropies, appears in the monopole as y-type, i-type and \mu-type distortions. The observation of the CMB spectral distortions will thus make available to us the information about the primordial power spectrum on scales corresponding to the comoving wavenumbers $8< k < 10^4 Mpc^{-1}$ increasing our total view of inflation, when combined with CMB anisotropies, to span 17 e-folds. These distortions can be understood simply as mixing of blackbodies of different temperatures and the subsequent comptonization of the resulting distortions.

Distance Based Asynchronous Recovery Approach In Mobile Computing Environment

Abstract: A mobile computing system is a distributed system in which at least one of the processes is mobile. They are constrained by lack of stable storage, low network bandwidth, mobility, frequent disconnection andlimited battery life. Checkpointing is one of the commonly used techniques to provide fault tolerance in mobile computing environment. In order to suit the mobile environment a distance based recovery schemeis proposed which is based on checkpointing and message logging. After the system recovers from failures, only the failed processes rollback and restart from their respective recent checkpoints, independent of the others. The salient feature of this scheme is to reduce the transfer and recovery cost. While the mobile host moves with in a specific range, recovery information is not moved and thus only be transferred nearby if the mobile host moves out of certain range.

Laboratory findings included leucopenia, anaemia, positive LE cell phenomenon, positive rheumatoid factor and mild proteinuria. The features included most of the criteria of Rowell′s syndrome.
Circulating biomarkers of oxidative stress in normal pregnancy and preeclampsia and efficacy of antioxidant supplementation

Abstract: Background: To detect circulating markers of oxidative stress in women with normal pregnancy, women at risk of preeclampsia and women with preeclampsia and to assess the effect of Antioxidants on the levels of markers of oxidative stress in all the groups . Methods: Quasi experimental study design, an experimental study with multiple arms conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Sawangi (Meghe) Wardha from March 2009 to July 2012. Results: Of 872 women enrolled, 290 were in the Normal Group (Normotensive women), 302 were in the At Risk Preeclampsia and 280 women allocated to Preeclampsia Group. Maximum numbers of pregnant women were between 20-24 years age group being 74.71%, 74.73% and 67.31% in the normal, at risk of Preeclampsia and preeclampsia group respectively Mean MDA level was 2.44 nmol/ml in normotensive women, 2.45 nmol/ml in at risk of preeclampsia and 4.83 nmol/ml in women with preeclampsia. SOD level in units/gm Hb%. Mean ± SD was 9.58±6.44 in normotensive group, 8.12±6.67, in at risk of preeclampsia group and 6.88±14.90 in preeclampsia group (p<0.05). This is due to antioxidant defense against oxidative stress in preeclampsia with resultant fall in plasma levels of SOD. Rising levels of MDA with the progression of gestation in placebo groups of all the pregnant women (Normotensive, at risk of preeclampsia and preeclampsia) and decline in the levels in those patients supplemented with antioxidant vitamins was observed. However there was no definite trend of significant rise or fall in the level of superoxide dismutase enzyme except in preeclamptic women. Conclusions: Circulating biomarker, MDA levels were raised significantly in women with preeclampsia. Superoxide dismutase, an antioxidant enzyme showed lower levels in preeclamptic patients. Following antioxidant supplementation marked improvement was noticed in the biochemical indices in all the major groups (normal pregnancy, pregnancy at risk of preeclampsia and preeclampsia). Vitamin supplementation has definite role in reducing the oxidative stress and maternal and perinatal morbidity. [Int J Reprod Contracept Obstet Gynecol 2013; 2(3.000): 304-310]
An Insight Overview of Issues and Challenges in Vehicular Adhoc Network

Abstract: Vehicular Ad hoc Networks is a kind of special wireless ad hoc network, which has the characteristics of high node mobility and fast topology changes. The Vehicular Networks can provide wide variety of services, range from safety-related warning systems to improved navigation mechanisms as well as information and entertainment applications. These additional features make the routing and other services more challenging and cause vulnerability in network services. These problems include network architecture, vanet protocols, routing algorithms, as well as security issues. In this paper, we provide a review for the researches related to Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks and also try to propose solution for related issues and challenges.
