Didactic Games in Social Studies in Primary School  [PDF]

Abstract: This study attempts to present representation of didactic games in social studies classes in primary school. We were especially interested in origin of didactic games that teacher use. Didactic game is a game used in classes taught with game-based learning and is proven to be an effective experiential learning method in more researches by Boocock, Bognar and others. In March and April 2017,?we conducted a research among the 290 students of the 4th?and 5th?grade and 177 teachers teaching 4th?and 5th?grade about the representation of didactic games in wider aspects in the 4th?and 5th?grade of social studies classes in Slovenian primary schools. In addition, 56 social studies lessons were observed. Results revealed that there is a problem of insufficient range of ready-to-use or ready-made games designed for the subject social studies, therefore the majority of teachers had already created a didactic game by?themselves.

Abstract: In the last 50 years, models of bilingual education with members of national minorities have been at the centre of political, social, and economic debates. Education is an important area where two languages systematically meet. This article introduces researches already made on the planning and performing classes in bilingual primary schools and presents bilingual model used in Slovene primary schools. Performing bilingual primary education in Slovenia is a challenge for teachers because they demand special organization and content to achieve their goals. Bilingual education belongs to the two-way model of preserving two languages and cultures. Bilingual classes are attended by students of two nationalities and mother tongues. Both languages are taught and have an equal status in all subjects. At the same time, both languages have an equal position as means of spoken and written communication inside and outside of the school.
Treatment of Cultural Heritage Content in the Subject Social Studies in Primary School  [PDF]

Abstract: Presented research was conducted to analyse the representation and treatment of cultural heritage content in Social Studies classes at the elementary level of primary school. 68 Social Studies lessons in primary schools in the Republic of Slovenia were observed and analysed. Cultural heritage is part of the identity of every nation. Therefore, it is of great importance that even youngest students in primary schools are acquainted with it. The content of cultural heritage can be dealt with in a number of subjects at the elementary school level. Focus of the research was treatment of cultural heritage in Social Studies in 4th?and 5th?grade of Slovene primary schools. Results showed that in the half of the observed lessons the content of the cultural heritage was integrated into the lesson. Great majority of teachers discussing the content of cultural heritage put the main focus on knowledge. For the teaching of cultural heritage content, the didactic strategies inquiry-based learning and problem-based learning were mostly used.
Future Primary School Teachers Attitudes toward Intercultural and Bilingual Education in Primary Schools  [PDF]

Abstract: This article analyses the attitudes of future primary school teachers, who, are currently students of the elementary education programme, toward intercultural and bilingual education. The problem is examined from three different aspects, the opinion of the students concerning the applicability of intercultural and bilingual education, advantages and disadvantages of intercultural and bilingual education and, lastly the knowledge of intercultural and bilingual education in bilingual primary schools. Interculturalism?is?a current topic?in?society today and can be presented as an ethnic-political project that aims at solving problems of co-existing in multi-ethnic societies. Intercultural education is therefore an opportunity and a reason to change educational approaches. A key element for providing lessons that include elements of intercultural education is bilingual education as well as a highly qualified primary school teacher. The research shows that the future primary school teachers believe to have good knowledge of intercultural and bilingual education and believe this way of educating to be the most appropriate and useful for the children of minorities to learn a foreign language. The participating future teachers stated students’ ability to speak more languages and gaining multi- and intercultural experiences as the advantages of intercultural and bilingual education. Half of participating future teachers do not recognize any disadvantages of intercultural and bilingual education, while others recognize additional teachers’ obligations and possible specific students’ learning problems as a potential disadvantage.
Chemical composition of Kiscellian silty sediment (sivica) from the Trobni Dol area, Eastern Slovenia

Abstract: Kiscellian marine silt termed sivica is widely developed in Tertiary basins of Eastern Slovenia. Chemical composition is rather uniform and reflects the dominance of filosilicates (mainly illite/muscovite, chlorite and montmorillonite) and carbonates. PAAS normalised REE and Y abundances are slightly depleted for La, Ce, Pr and Nd, very close to PAAS for Sm, Eu, Gd and Tb, and depleted for Y, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu.

Abstract: The article describes the theoretical point of view of the GPS-broadcast ephemerides application. Beside the raw GPS observations, any kind of GPS ephemerides represents indispensable data in the GPS processing engine. Broadcast ephemerides have been produced in the central Control Station in Colorado Springs and interposed from GPS satellites to the users as part of the GPS navigation message. The article focuses on the theoretical broadcast-ephemeris-data treatment for computing the position of a GPS satellite. The reason for the orbit-problem explanation is that anyone who uses any GPS measurement methods should be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the ephemeris data. Thus, numerical examples of GPS-satellite position computation for 4-hour time span from broadcast ephemerides and deviations of the results regarding the IGS ultra-rapid and IGS final precise ephemerides are presented in the article.

Abstract: In the article we present the single point positioning procedures from pseudoranges for obtaining the absolute position of the GPS antenna and its clock offset. First we define the direct and iterative solutions from four or more pseudoranges, further we derive a solution from three pseudoranges used in situations with obstructions to the receiver-to-satellite line of sights, for example in vehicle navigation (altitude hold mode). We present the theoretic demonstration of preferences of each method and discuss the geometric conditions leading from several solutions to the most likely one. The main purpose of this study is finding the optimal computation method to attain a well-based initial solution guess for the recursive method of computation – Kalman filtering, and to obtain quality apriori values for further carrier-phase processing. In order to achieve a well-grounded method comparison in the Matlab R14 program, we apply all methods on the same set of observation data and in connection with broadcast ephemerides considering troposphere refraction models and Earth aberration. Additional analyses show that the number of satellites and observation time interval have a significant effect on the accuracy improvement.

Abstract: The article describes the theoretical point of view of the GPS precise ephemerides application that should be used in most precise GPS processing. Regarding broadcast, precise ephemerides allow us to achieve a much better accuracy of the final GPS processing results. There are several GPS services that via the internet interpose data in the standard form, but usually in the shortened form. This means that precise ephemeris data include only positional data, however in their complete form, GPS satellite-position and velocity data should be included. In this view there are different mathematical approaches of handling precise ephemeris data with the main goal of GPS satellite position computation. We will show the precise epehemeris data acquirement and its advantages and disadvantages. Further we will show different mathematical methods – numerical integration, interpolation and approximation – and their characteristics. Because the IGS service has done a step forward to solving the problem of time delay (in 2001) and to achieving a better initial accuracy we will use the IGS precise ephemerides in most practical examples.

Abstract: GNSS-instrumente (angl. Global Navigation Satellite System) uvr amo med standardno terensko geodetsko mersko opremo (poleg elektronskih tahimetrov in nivelirjev), ki jo lahko uporabljamo za vzpostavitevgeodetskih mre in za detajlno izmero. Podobno kot pri drugih geodetskih instrumentih moramo tudi pri GNSS-instrumentih pred izmero ovrednotiti parametre kakovosti instrumentarija oziroma metodeizmere, ki jih pridobimo s postopki laboratorijske kalibracije in/ali s terenskim preizku anjem. Tako pridobimo podatek o ustreznosti navedenih tehni nih zna ilnostih proizvajalca in ovrednotimo primernost uporabe GNSS-instrumentov za konkretne potrebe.Mednarodna organizacija za standarde ISO (angl. International Organization of Standardization) je v okviru tehni ne skupine 172 in podskupine 6 (ISO/ TC 172/SC 6) v letu 2007 predstavila postopkepreizku anja GNSS-merskega instrumentarija za dolo anje polo aja v realnem asu, ki temeljijo na oceni kakovosti delovanja strojne in programske opreme posameznega instrumenta. Preizkus lahko opravimo kjerkoli na terenu, kjer so zagotovljeni primerni pogoji za izvedbo GNSS-opazovanj predvsem s stali a im manj ih vplivov na opazovanja zizvorom v okolici. Preizkus tudi ne zahteva dodatnega programskega orodja za obdelavo podatkov meritev, saj je statisti no vrednotenje rezultatov opazovanj dokaj enostavno. V prispevku opisujemo teoreti ne podlage preizkusa GNSS-instrumentov po navodilih standardaISO 17123-8, ki jih uporabimo za prakti ni preizkus GNSS-instrumenta. ; GNSS-instruments (Global Navigation Satellite System) are the standard field surveying equipment (in addition to tachymeter and levels) for geodetic network establishment and detail surveying. As inthe case of other geodetic instruments, it is essential to pre-analyse GNSS-receiver quality parameters, obtained from laboratory calibration and/or field testing of the specific nstrument and/or measuring method. Thus, the relevance of the results, as indicated by manufacturer, is obtained that may explain the suitability of a specific GNSS-instrument for field measurements. In 2007, the International Organization of Standardization (ISO), Technical Committee 172, Subcommittee 6 (ISO/TC 172/ SC6), presented a comprehensive GNSS field testing procedures for real time measurements, based on statistical evaluation and verification of themanufacturer’s hardware and firmware. The test can be performed anywhere on the field assuming that the test area includes minimal potential influences to GNSS measurements.
