G?del and the Incompleteness of Arithmetic  [PDF]

Advances in Pure Mathematics (APM) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/apm.2016.68042
Abstract: People normally believe that Arithmetic is not complete because GÖdel launched this idea a long time ago, and it looks as if nobody has presented sound evidence on the contrary. We here intend to do that perhaps for the first time in history. We prove that what Stanford Encyclopedia has referred to as Theorem 3 cannot be true, and, therefore, if nothing else is presented in favour of GÖdel’s thesis, we actually do not have evidence on the incompleteness of Arithmetic: All available evidence seems to point at the extremely opposite direction.
Effects of the reduction of dietary heat increment on the performance, carcass yield, and diet digestibility of broilers submitted to heat stress
Laganá, C;Ribeiro, AML;Kessler, AM;Kratz, LR;Pinheiro, CC;
Revista Brasileira de Ciência Avícola , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-635X2007000100007
Abstract: this experiment aimed at verifying the effect of different diets and thermal environments on the performance, carcass yield, and diet digestibility of 21 to 42-day-old broilers. a total number of 288 21-day-old male ross broilers were distributed in a 2 x 2 + 2 factorial arrangement, with six replicates, including the following factors: two environments (tne - thermoneutral: 21-25oc and 73% rh; chs - cyclic heat stress: 25-32oc and 65%rh), and two diets (control: 2.4% soybean oil and 19.5% protein; summer: 4.0% soybean oil and 18.5% protein). in tne, two additional treatments were included with feed restriction of birds fed both the control and summer diets (pair-feeding), thereby maintaining the same feed intake level for both types of diet. diet did not influence performance, dry matter and protein digestibilities, or carcass and part yields. tne birds had better performance (p<0.001) as compared to chs birds, but fcr was not different. chs birds had lower breast yield (p<0.0001), and higher thigh yield (p<0.02) than tne birds. in the pair-feeding treatments, environment did not influence performance, but dry matter digestibility was significantly lower in chs (p<0.03), whereas protein digestibility was not affected. the difference in feed intake was the main responsible factor for the variation in the performance of heat-stressed birds.
Effect of the supplementation of vitamins and organic minerals on the performance of broilers under heat stress
Laganá, C;Ribeiro, AML;Kessler, AM;Kratz, LR;Pinheiro, CC;
Revista Brasileira de Ciência Avícola , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-635X2007000100006
Abstract: the objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of diet supplementation with vitamins c and e and organic minerals zn and se on the performance of 1 to 35 day-old broilers from, kept under cyclic heat stress (25 to 32oc). four levels of vitamin-mineral supplementation were used (t1-control diet (60/30 iu of vit e for starter and growing diet, respectively, zero vit. c, 80 ppm of inorganic zn, 0.3 ppm of inorganic se); t2-control diet + 100 ui vit e and 300 ppm vit c/kg; t3-control diet + 40 ppm zn and 0,3 ppm se/kg; t4-control diet + t2 and t3 levels) and two environments - thermoneutral and cyclic heat stress (tn and hs) from 14 to 35 days of age. in the period when part of the birds was submitted to hs, from 14 to 35 days, it was observed lower feed intake (fi) and better feed conversion (fc) for hs birds receiving supplementation compared to the group without supplementation. evaluating the total period, all the types of supplementation provided lower fi and better fc than the control treatment, but not affected weight gain (wg). the supplementation of vitamins c and e and/or organic minerals zn and se improved the performance of birds due to a lower fi resulting in better fc, independently on the environment.

Amálio Pinheiro,Maria Lucia de Paiva Jacobini
Revista Comunica??o Midiática , 2011,
Abstract: This paper intends to compose an analysis of the treatment given by Carta Capital and Veja magazines to the issue of socioeconomic development. From a discussion on the crisis of the paradigm of modern science and the understanding of Latin America as a possible alternative, the goal is to discuss if the content proposed by both magazines makes sense with the idea of socioeconomic development and the specificities of the Brazilian context. From this, question the approach to issues related to development based on the paradigms of Western modernity, typical of developed countries and focused on consumption, economic growth, modernization and technology.

Neves, Dulce Amélia de Brito;Dias, Eduardo Wense;Pinheiro, ?ngela Maria Vieira;
Ciência da Informa??o , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-19652006000300014
Abstract: this research aimed to identify similarities and differences in the use of the following metacognitive strategies between proficient readers professional indexers and non-indexers: monitoring non-comprehension, hypothesis construction, the relation between sentence and paragraph, question-&-answer, the mental development of summarization, value judgment, repetition and recall. the method applied was the verbal (think-aloud) protocol which allows for the retention of individual reports of personal cognitive processes during the exercise of the task, or to the extent that these can be recalled. the reading of two texts was applied to seven indexers and to seven informants of a control group. the results show that the indexers read in a similar way to the control group, differentiated only in terms of strategies of summary construction. the methodological question related to the markedness or non-markedness of the text was also tested. the conclusion was in favor of the need to formally introduce the teaching of metacognitive strategies in the training of the indexer in reading.

Pinheiro, Rafael Silvio Bonilha;Silva Sobrinho, Américo Garcia da;Yamamoto, Sandra Mari;Barbosa, José Carlos;
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2007000400015
Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate tecidual composition of the cuts carcass of young and adult sheep, in thirty-six ? ile de france ? polwarth sheeps (12 uncastrated lambs, 12 ewes and 12 wether). animals were grown in grazing system based on tifton-85 pastures and were supplemented with concentrate. lambs were weaned close to 17±0.87 kg and slaughtered at 32 kg and about 5 months old. ewes and wethers were slaughtered close to 55±1.26 kg and 60 months of age. higher values of muscle percentage in carcass cuts, were found: in leg, followed by shoulder and loin, among animal categories. bone percentage in carcass of cuts was higher in lambs than in adult animals. subcutaneous, intermuscle and total fat in the carcass of cuts were higher in adult than in young animals. loin had higher value of total fat, followed by shoulder and leg with the smaller value. animal categories affected tecidual composition of the carcass of cuts, being adipose the main tissue responsable for these differences.
The meaning of interaction between nursing professionals and newborns/families in a hospital setting
Pinheiro, Eliana Moreira;Silva, Maria Júlia Paes da;Angelo, Margareth;Ribeiro, Circéa Amália;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692008000600012
Abstract: this study aimed to understand the meaning of the nursing team's communication with newborns and families during care delivered in a neonatal unit and also to develop a theoretical model. symbolic interactionism and hargie's model were used as theoretical and grounded theory as the methodological reference framework. the study was carried out at the nursery of a hospital in s?o paulo, sp, brazil. the study sample was composed of three nurses and four nursing auxiliaries. the theoretical model being mediated by the strength of motivation was based on findings and revealed the role the nursing professionals' motivation played during interactions with newborns and families. the conclusion is that more humanized interactions with newborns and families result from the nursing professionals' motivation.
