Numerical Taxonomy of Old World Phlebotominae (Diptera: Psychodidae): 2. Restatement of Classification upon Subgeneric Morphological Characters
Rispail, Philippe;Léger, Nicole;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761998000600016
Abstract: numerical analyses (correspondence analysis, ascending hierarchical classification, and cladistics) were done with morphological characters of adult phlebotomine sand flies. the resulting classification largely confirms that of classical taxonomy for supra-specific groups from the old world, though the positions of some groups are adjusted. the taxa spelaeophlebotomus theodor 1948, idiophlebotomus quate & fairchild 1961, australophlebotomus theodor 1948 and chinius leng 1987 are notably distinct from other old world groups, particularly from the genus phlebotomus rondani & berté 1840. spelaeomyia theodor 1948 and, in particular, parvidens theodor & mesghali 1964 are clearly separate from sergentomyia fran?a & parrot 1920.

Abstract: numerical analyses (correspondence analysis, ascending hierarchical classification, cladistic approach) were applied to the morphological characters of the adults of the genus phlebotomus rondani & berté 1840. they confirm the reliability of the classic classifications, and also redefine the taxonomic and phylogenetic position of certain taxa. thus, spelaeophlebotomus theodor 1948, idiophlebotomus quate & fairchild 1961 and australophlebotomus theodor 1948 deserve generic rank. among the vectors of leishmaniasis, the subgenus phlebotomus rondani & berté 1840 is probably ancient. the results attribute an intermediate taxonomic and phylogenetic position to the taxa euphlebotomus theodor 1948 and anaphlebotomus theodor 1948, and reveal the probable artificial nature of the latter. the comparatively large numbers of species of subgenera paraphlebotomus theodor 1948, synphlebotomus theodor 1948 and, above all, larroussius nitzulescu 1931 and adlerius nitzulescu 1931, suggest that they are relatively recent. the development of adult morphological characters, the validity of their use in taxonomy and proposals for further studies are discussed.

Improving the Power Line Communication Signal-to-Noise Ratio During a Resistive Load Commutation

Journal of Communications , 2009, DOI: 10.4304/jcm.4.2.126-132
Abstract: In any cable or power line communications, impulse noise is known to be the most difficult noise to filter. In particular, non periodic asynchronous impulse noise is impossible to predict. Under such noise conditions, the OFDM1 symbol generally used in PLC2 is corrupted. To overcome this problem, the signal-to-noise ratio is generally improved by detecting and/or filtering the noise. This leads however to heavy detection and computing time in comparison with the disturbance duration. In this paper, we study the parameters of the noise generated by a load commutation and propose a new approach that consists in controlling the commutation instant of the load. This approach reduces by up to 15 dB the asynchronous impulsive noise emitted by a resistive load in a 40.96-μs typical Homeplug AV3 OFDM symbol duration. Synchronisation is integrated in electronic commutation system. Results show that the load value does not influence the magnitude of the impulse noise.
Investigation of the Hyperfine Structure of Atomic Niobium (Nb I) Spectral Lines Based on the Lower Energy Levels at 22936, 23010, and 23048 cm-1  [PDF]
L. Windholz, S. Kr?ger
Spectral Analysis Review (SAR) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/sar.2018.62004
Abstract: The hyperfine (hf) structure constants of three atomic niobium energy levels in the energy range around 23000 cm-1 (at 22936.90, 23010.58, and 23048.58 cm-1) are known with only limited accuracy, and the constants of combining levels are sometimes even unknown. Thus we performed laser spectroscopic investigations in the wavelength range between 5600 and 6500 Å, and we excited altogether 16 transitions in which these lower levels are involved. Beside a more precise determination of the hf structure constants of the three lower levels (which were determined on several lines sharing a common upper level), these experiments led to the knowledge of the hf constants of nine levels with previously unknown constants. Beside these results, also the hf constants of 13 further energy levels are reported. For six of these levels, the constants were previously unknown.
Adeno-Associated Viral Vector-Mediated Transgene Expression Is Independent of DNA Methylation in Primate Liver and Skeletal Muscle

Abstract: Recombinant adeno-associated viral (rAAV) vectors can support long-term transgene expression in quiescent tissues. Intramuscular (IM) administration of a single-stranded AAV vector (ssAAV) in the nonhuman primate (NHP) results in a peak protein level at 2–3 months, followed by a decrease over several months before reaching a steady-state. To investigate transgene expression and vector genome persistence, we previously demonstrated that rAAV vector genomes associate with histones and form a chromatin structure in NHP skeletal muscle more than one year after injection. In the mammalian nucleus, chromatin remodeling via epigenetic modifications plays key role in transcriptional regulation. Among those, CpG hyper-methylation of promoters is a known hallmark of gene silencing. To assess the involvement of DNA methylation on the transgene expression, we injected NHP via the IM or the intravenous (IV) route with a recombinant ssAAV2/1 vector. The expression cassette contains the transgene under the transcriptional control of the constitutive Rous Sarcoma Virus promoter (RSVp). Total DNA isolated from NHP muscle and liver biopsies from 1 to 37 months post-injection was treated with sodium bisulfite and subsequently analyzed by pyrosequencing. No significant CpG methylation of the RSVp was found in rAAV virions or in vector DNA isolated from NHP transduced tissues. Direct de novo DNA methylation appears not to be involved in repressing transgene expression in NHP after gene transfer mediated by ssAAV vectors. The study presented here examines host/vector interactions and the impact on transgene expression in a clinically relevant model.

Palabras claves: Proceso Burgos, prensa regional francesa, Lemosín, opinión pública, protesta ___________________________ Abstract: Franquist repression caused a strong international movement of contestation; the lawsuit of Burgos, in December 1970 has appeared among the episodes which marked the most the world public opinion. This short article aims to briefly present the impact of the lawsuit of Burgos in the Limousin area and in two of its most sold regional newspapers. Thus, at this level, we will give some avenues to understand why the activists of ETA profited from such a support. Keywords: Lawsuit of Burgos, french regional press, Lemosín, public opinion, protest
