Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1955, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761955000200037
Abstract: the reversals of mitsuda's reactions induced by bcg have been objected to based on the possiblem interference of other determination causes of the phenomenon: tuberculous primo-infections, communicants of unsuspected leprosy, revearsals due to other causes, such as anti-diphteric and anti-tetanic vaccination, etc. in order to study the problem, we have used rhesus monkeys (macaca mulatta), which were reared in isolation, in an attempt to avoid the referred to interferences. prior to the experiments, all animals were tested and found negative to radiograph, tuberculin and lepromin tests and were then submitted to the application of bcg vaccine (from 1 to 3 days old), in different doses and by different via. at different times, after the application of bcg, they were again submitted to the radiographic, tuberculin and lepromin tests. in the tables i to iv the experiences were summarised. from the experiments, the following conclusions were reached: 1 - from 12 rhesus that received bcg 11 showed reversals of the mitsuda reaction (91.7%). 2 - these reverseals took place both in tests effected shortly after bcg (from 6 days to 2 months), and tests effected much later (from 7 to 12 months after bcg). 3 - some differences were found in the results, according to the dosis and the application via of the bcg. a) - the testicular and peritonela via (0,02g) were the only that determined strong positive mitsuda's reactions (+++). b) - by oral via, animals that received high dosis (0.6g and 1.2 g), there resulted uniform and regular reversals, even though of low intensity (+); but from those who got small doses (0.2 g.) one showed no reversals in all tests, and the other presented reversals in the 2nd and 3rd tests only, also with low positivity (+). 4) in the 2nd and 3rd mitsuda's reactions in the same animals, positivity was always precocious (generally within 48 hours), one getting the impression that there occurs a sensibilization of the animal body by the antigen with the re

Abstract: the economic and productive performances of the dietary corn replacement with cassava shavings flour were evaluated in 200 lohmann lsl laying hens with 46 weeks old, kept in 25 cages. the experiment was analyzed as a complete randomized design with five treatments and five replicates of eight birds per experimental unit. the treatments consisted of five levels (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%) of corn replacement with cassava shavings flour. quadractic effect on daily feed intake, with averages of 100.68, 101.00, 100.72, 99.42, and 99.50 g, in the respective replacement levels, was observed. viability, egg production and feeding conversion (kg/dz and g/g) showed no significant differences. it was observed treatment effect (quadractic effect) on egg weight, albumen percentage, shell percentage, shell thickness and specific gravity. egg mass and yolk percentage were not affected by the treatments. the 50% level treatment provided the lowest shell percentage in spite of presenting the highest egg weight. the egg yolk colour was affected by the treaments and showed linear decrease (7.84, 7.52, 7.35, 5.32, and 5.12) as the corn replacement level increased. from an economical viewpoint, the 100% level treatment presented higher difference on the cost per kilogram of feed, egg-dozen, and egg-box in relation to the other treatments. it is possible to replace up to 100% of corn by with cassava shavings flours with no changes on egg yield and feeding conversion. however, the replacement will depend on the relative cost of corn and pigments to be used for correcting egg yolk pigmentation.

Abstract: The differentiation of closely related Citrus genotypes is a meticulous, laborious, and time-consuming task that involves the assessment of complex traits such as growth, tolerance to stress, photosynthetic efficiency, yield, and many others. Such a task is generally accomplished either by analyzing specific features of adult plants or by applying molecular markers to young trees. On one hand, only after plants start yielding can distinct genotypes be differentiated by comparing their fruit sizes, shapes, taste, and the number of seeds. On the other hand, molecular markers are expensive, and demand expertise and time for the analysis of a larger number of plants. For these reasons, the development of techniques that could assist in an early, quick and accurate differen-tiation of closely related Citrus varieties is of utmost importance. In this context, laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy (LIFS) is a promising technique, since it is rapid, highly sensitive, and inexpensive. Previous studies showed that LIFS can differentiate a variety of sweet orange. However, this new study aimed to determine LIFS accuracy in the differentiation and grouping of very closely varieties of four Sunki mandarin selections: Comum, Florida, Tropical, and Maravilha. Furthermore we compared the results with ISSR and SSR molecular markers for the same varieties. LIFS technique distinguished the four selections with accuracy greater than 70%. Only with molecular markers was possible distinguishing clearly Tropical from Maravilha, but not Comum from Florida selections. In this way the results suggest that LIFS may be a sound tool for helping the identification of closely Citrus varieties.

Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0066-782X2000000400001
Abstract: objective: evaluation of inter and intraobserver reproducibility of by the visual method interpretation of cineangiogram in a clinically based context. methods: five interventional cardiologists analyzed 11 segments of 8 coronary cineangiograms at a two month apart sessions. the percent luminal reduction by the lesions were analyzed by two different classifications: in one (a) the lesions were graded in 0% = absent, 1-50% = mild, 51 - 69 = moderate, and 3 70% = severe; the other classification (b) was a dichotomic one : <70% = nonsignificant and 3 70%=significant lesions. the agreement were measured by the kappa (k) index. results: interobserver agreement was moderate for classification a (1st measurement, k = 0.36 ? 0.63, km = 0.49; 2nd measurement, k = 0.39-0.68, km = 0.52) and good for classification b (1st measurement, k = 0.55-0.73, km = 0.63; 2nd measurement, k = 0.37-0.82, km = 0.61). intraobserver levels of agreement were k = 0.57-0.95 for classification a and 0.62-1.0 for classification b. conclusion: the higher level of reproducibility obtained by adopting the dichotomous criteria usually considered for ischemic limits demonstrates that in the present clinical context, the reliability of the simple visual method is adequate for the identification of patients with clinically significant lesions and candidates for myocardial revascularization procedures.
