Abstract: with the objective to evaluate the distribution of corn and soybean seeds by a precision seeder in function of the displacement speed and seeds density, an experiment was made in track of sand according to international standard. the treatments consisted of the combination among four speeds, three sowing densities for the corn and four for the soybean, being appraised the transversal distribution, longitudinal distribution and final seeds density. it was observed that the elevations of the displacement speed from 3.5 to 7.0km h-1 for the corn and from 4.3 to 11.0km h-1 for the soybean did not reduce significantly the final densities of sowing. the increase in the sowing density from 3 to 7 seeds m-1 for the corn and from 8 to 20 for the soybean reduced the percentile of acceptable spacing's for both the cultures, independent of the displacement speed.

Abstract: Plant-derived substances such as curcumin and trans-resveratrol, both of which have anti-inflammatory properties, may have a beneficial effect on human skin. The present study analyzed the effects of topical formulations containing curcumin or trans-resveratrol on the recovery and rejuvenation of skin after chemical peeling. The study was performed on rats, randomly divided into seven groups of six animals each. Superficial peeling was performed using a 50% glycolic acid gel, which was applied to the dorsal region of each animal. Rats were then treated with the experimental formulations for 15 days. On the sixteenth day, skin samples were taken and mounted on slides for histological analysis. Statistical analysis showed that the formulation containing trans-resveratrol led to increased dermal and epidermal thickness, while the formulation containing curcumin had no effects on epidermal thickness. The increased epidermal thickness may reflect greater skin vitality, although this was not directly evaluated. The increase in dermal thickness may be attributed to greater collagen production, which may increase skin firmness and elasticity, and lead to skin rejuvenation as well as wrinkle reduction. Formulations containing curcumin or trans-resveratrol may have potential for the topical treatment after peeling and of sensitive skin, in addition to being used for their antiaging properties.

Abstract: objective: the present study had as its objective to compare the findings of voiding cystourethrography with those of duplex color doppler in patients with suspected vesicoureteral reflux. materials and methods: the research was developed through the study of ureterovesical jet angles, both in axial and longitudinal planes. also, the distance (in cm) between ureteral meatuses was analyzed. results: from a total sample of 32 patients (mean age of five years and two months), 18 presented with vesicoureteral reflux (10 with unilateral reflux - 4 right-sided and 6 left-sided -, and 8 with bilateral reflux) and 14 patients did not presented with reflux. the angles of ureterovesical jet and distances between the ureteral meatuses were measured in all patients, and mean values, standard deviation and coefficient of variance were calculated. conclusion: data showed that a trend towards meatus lateralization is a sign of predisposition to vesicoureteral reflux. non-parametric mann-whitney statistical analysis did not show significant differences (p > 0.05) between groups (inclination angles of ureterovesical jet and distance between urinary meatuses).

Abstract: the main objective of this work was to produce particleboards with hydrolysed "angico-vermelho" bark (anadenanthera peregrina) tannins as partial or total substitute of urea-formaldehyde. particleboards with the dimensions of 15.75" x 15.75" x 0.39" were manufactured with pinus elliottii particles and 8% of adhesive solids in relation to the dry mass of particles. adhesives employed either 100% urea-formaldehyde or 12.5, 25 and 37.5% of tannin adhesive. boards were also manufactured with pure tannin adhesives. the experimental design was constituted of five treatments and three repetitions. the particleboards average density was 0.7 g/cm3 (0.0618 oz/in3). board properties were determined according to the astm d-1037 (1993) standards. the mechanical propertiy values were compared to the minimum values established by the ansi/a 208.1 standards. water absorption and thickness swelling values were compared to the maximum values established by the din 68m761 (1) standards. the mechanical properties of boards produced with the adhesives containing tannins of "angico-vermelho", except for the elasticity module, exceeded the minimum values requested by the ansi/a1-280/93 standards. the water absorption and thickness swelling of all the boards exceeded the established maximum value after 2 and 24 h of immersion. it is ended that the adhesives of tannins of angico-vermelho can substitute partially or totally the commercial urea-formaldehyde adhesive and also that their mixtures are suitable for interior use, where resistance to humidity is not requested.

Uma nota sobre a lógica formal de Kant
Santos, Pedro;
Manuscrito , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-60452012000100004
Abstract: the paper presents a problem arising from kant's theory of analytic judgments in conjunction with his official allegiance to the syllogistic. it is then argued that this problem can only be solved by the acknowledgement that the logic with which kant operated was consistent neither the syllogistic nor with classical logic, consisting, in effect, in a species of inclusive logic.
