Abstract: In the present study, we elaborated the results obtained on blood samples collected in the first two weeks of life from 22 symptomatic and 48 asymptomatic newborns with cCMV diagnosed through urine testing. We evaluated the performances of two quantitative methods (pp65 antigenemia test and plasma Real-time PCR) and the semi-quantitative results of dried blood sample (DBS) test in the aim of identifying a valid method for measuring viral load.Plasma qPCR and DBS tests were positive in 100% of cases, antigenemia in 81%. Only the latter test gave quantitatively different results in symptomatic versus asymptomatic children. qPCR values of 103 copies/ml were found in 52% of newborn. "Strong" DBS test positivity cases had higher median values of both pp65 positive PBL and DNA copies/ml than cases with a "weak" positivity.As expected antigenemia test was less sensitive than molecular tests and DBS test performed better on samples with higher rates of pp65 positive PBL and higher numbers of DNA copies/ml. The prognostic significance of the results of these tests will be evaluated on completion of the ongoing collection of follow-up data of these children.Congenital cytomegalovirus infection (cCMV) is present in 0.7% of neonates [1] and represents one of the most feared events during pregnancy, causing not only immediate but also delayed sequelae to the infant. At birth, 10% of infected newborns present with symptoms involving the hematopoietic, hepatobiliary, or central nervous systems.During early childhood, one fifth of all congenitally infected babies either die or suffer permanent neurological impairments that can affect normal development, particularly psychomotor retardation, ocular damage, or sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). This last sequelae is the most frequent, occurring in about 20% of cases. It may be evident at birth (45-65%) [1] or develop later. Moreover, there may be different degrees of severity and it may be progressive.As corrective measures may only

Abstract: some of the differential bioethic characteristics which are typical of primary health care and that typify the physician-patient relations and the kind of health care at this level are presented. the possible contradictions existing between the fundamental ethic principles and the role of the actors involved in health care are approached by analyzing the frequent questions family physicians may face in the management of sick individuals or of subjects with risk factors. it is concluded that the family physician in his ethic and bioethic conduct should generate a space of professional and moral respect for the patient and for the society that favors the capacity of understanding the information and the decision making

For 3 years, 1 412 hypertensive patients were followed up by the Family Physician for their classification, according to the hypertensive stage and the risk group recommended by the sixth report, as well as for the evaluation of the therapeutic behaviour. Corporate Governance and Performance: Evidence from Italian Companies  [PDF]
Fabrizio Fratini, Patrizia Tettamanzi
Open Journal of Business and Management (OJBM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojbm.2015.32020
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to verify the presence and intensity (extent) of the relationship between corporate governance and performance in Italian listed companies by using both accounting and non-accounting performance measures. We extended previous literature in considering all the main aspects of governance (board structure and ownership structure) and all relevant peculiarities of Italian entrepreneurial system (family business, concentrated ownership, State ownership, pyramidal groups). In the first part of the paper, we used regression analysis on a sample of 182 Italian listed companies to find that firm performance was positively related to board size and audit committee’s effort and negatively related to leverage, although with a very low coefficient. No particular relationship was highlighted for ownership structure. We tested the consistency of this finding by doing a follow-up analysis between a sub-group of 134 of 2003 sample companies and the same companies in 2007 to verify the stability of the determinants of performance and their relative impact overtime. What we found was that only board size kept its positive relation with performance. Audit committee and leverage lost their relevance in 2007 sample in which the presence of a compensation committee showed a positive impact on performance. From our findings, we can conclude that, according to other studies (Belcredi & Rigamonti [1]), the relationship among ownership and corporate governance structure and firm performance is ambiguous. The ambiguity improves if considering the relationship overtime.

Da necessidade à liberdade: uma nota sobre as propostas de Diderot e Condorcet para o ensino superior
Piozzi, Patrizia;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302004000300002
Abstract: along the xviiith century prompted by their quest for a fairer, freer and more egalitarian society, the men of the enlightenment got involved in spreading scientific and cultivated knowledge among the masses. they thought these, once enlightened about their own capacities and interests, could autonomously partake in the economical, political and social life of their nations. focusing on the relationships between the highest and lowest degrees of education, this paper explores the proposals diderot, then director of the encyclopedia, and condorcet, then a member of the legislative assembly of the revolutionary france, respectively elaborated for a universal, free public education. the renewal of the traditional contents to privilege the studies of "arts and sciences", which may be applied to practical life, and the implementation of didactics that, albeit simplifying its language, would preserve the rigor the theoretical knowledge both reveal the range and limits of this universal access formally guaranteed to common men. scrutinizing the educational ideas that stake out the course of public education shows a gap between the liberal conceptualization of promotion through merit and the democratizing vocation, which aims at a social coexistence built upon the free intertwining of people's talents, knowledge and tastes.
Utopias revolucionárias e educa??o pública: rumos para uma nova "cidade ética"
Piozzi, Patrizia;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302007000300005
Abstract: during the french revolution, the confrontation of educational reform projects was a continuation of the debate inaugurated by the encyclopedists, by translating the different points of view in public policies. on the one hand, the more progressive wing of the liberal trends proposed universal access to education to offer equal opportunities and autonomy to the individuals-citizens. inspired by jean-jacques rousseau's critics to the competitive society, other trends saw educational policies as the main instrument to fight against a culture impregnated with individualism, by privileging moral and collective training. this paper explores aspects of the debate that began in revolutionary france and its echoes among the xixth century reformers of public education. it points out some of the current challenges for public education in what regards building an actually universal access and an autonomous knowledge that can be critical of the market determinations and to the competitive culture.
El léxico del Lazarillo
Botta,Patrizia;
Olivar , 2008,
Abstract: the following is an exhaustive glossary of all the words in lazarillo registered as they appear in the text. it has been prepared in a different way from the concordances and it will soon be on line. the glossary is a useful tool to study statistical data (figures and percentages), grammar categories, most frequently used terms, dominant semantic fields, stylistic features, syntagms, term distribution, and unique terms of a given treatise, etc. the conclusion is that the novel is a very rich work from a lexical viewpoint (there are many words which are mentioned only once and there is a low rate of repeated terms). this type of survey is fundamental for studies on language and style, and for the production of a critical edition, as it provides the author's usus scribendi which can be used to assess doubtful or equal variants.
