Clusters in Macroscopic Traffic Flow Models  [PDF]
Rosa María Velasco, Patricia Saavedra
World Journal of Mechanics (WJM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/wjm.2012.21007
Abstract: This paper concerns the traveling wave formation in macroscopic traffic flow models. The dynamics involved in this problem is described following a close analogy to compressible fluid dynamics. It is well known that vehicle clusters appear along a highway when the homogenous steady state taken as a reference is linearly unstable. The cluster properties are determined in an approximate way in terms of the parameters proper to each model and are compared between them.
Global bifurcation diagram for the Kerner-Konhauser traffic flow model
Joaquin Delgado,Patricia Saavedra
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: We study traveling wave solutions of the Kerner--Konh\"auser PDE for traffic flow. By a standard change of variables, the problem is reduced to a dynamical system in the plane with three parameters. In a previous paper (Carrillo, F.A., J. Delgado, P. Saavedra, R.M. Velasco and F. Verduzco, (2013). Traveling waves, catastrophes and bifurcations in a generic second order traffic flow model --to appear in \textit{International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos}--, it was shown that under general hypotheses on the fundamental diagram, the dynamical system has a surface of critical points showing either a fold or cusp catastrophe when projected under a two dimensional plane of parameters named $q_g$--$v_g$. In any case a one parameter family of Bogdanov--Takens (BT) bifurcation takes place, and therefore local families of Hopf and homoclinic bifurcation arising from each BT point exist. Here we prove the existence of a degenerate Bogdanov--Takens bifurcation (DBT) which in turn implies the existence of Generalized Hopf or Bautin bifurcations (GH). We describe numerically the global lines of bifurcations continued from the local ones, inside a cuspidal region of the parameter space. In particular, we compute the first Lyapunov exponent, and compare with the GH bifurcation curve. We present some families of stable limit cycles which are taken as initial conditions in the PDE leading to stable traveling waves.

Dos estrategias ganadoras para la opción Banxico
Bego?a Fernández,Manuel Galán,Patricia Saavedra

Abstract: chile is located in the southwestern border of south america. the country is 4,329 km long and 96-342 wide. from north to south it is divided into five marked different biogeographical zones: deserts, steppes, bushes, forests (cattle raising) and austral (sheep raising). population (june1999) 15,017,760 (14.6% rural). human hydatidosis is endemic in chile. according to ministry of health information about 320 cases are registered each year. in order to find out the likely prevalence of human hydatidosis in chile,a series of serosurveys was carried out in 1988-1997 throughout the total country. by using the indirect hemagglutination reaction and elisa for hydatidosis (tests with good sensibility and specificity) 60,790 unselected apparently healthy persons: 41,399 from urban areas (16,428 blood donors, from 13,894 delivering mothers and 11,077 middle grade school children) and 19,361 from rural areas - from randomly selected family groupings-were studied. a total individuals 82 (136/100,000) resulted positive: 36 (87/100,000) urban and 46 (241/100,000) rural, being the prevalence higher in rural areas, particularly in the southern austral zone (mean 1068/100,00). these figures agree with those observed in clinical epidemiological studies. in conformity with the present results, in the whole country 17,002 individuals should have hydatidosis: 10,318 urban and 6,784 rural. all these possible infected people, not necessarily should present pathology in the future, as it has been observed in autopsies from unselected individuals, performed at the medico-legal service in santiago, in whom 71.3% of diagnosed hydatosis with hydatid cysts in many different locations, was an autopsy finding

Abstract: an indirect hemagglutination test (ihat) and an elisa test for trichinosis using as antigen a larvae soluble fraction from trichinella spiralis was carried out for the detection of igg, igm and iga specific antibodies in 113 serum samples from patients confirmed or suspected to have trichinosis by strong clinical and epidemiological evidences (group i). the same tests were also performed on 110 serum samples corresponding to patients without strong evidences of having trichinosis (group ii). in group i the corresponding sensitivities for rhai, elisa igg, elisa igm, elisa iga were: 82.3-85.8-88.5 and 88.5% respectively. seventeen patients were tested again a week after the first analysis (10 of them corresponded to negative ones), increasing the positivity: 23.5-100.0;35.3-100.0;41.2-100.0 and 41.2-100.0% for rhai, elisa igg, elisa igm and elisa iga, respectively. other two patients were followed-up for 5 years. ihat and elisa igg remained positive, whereas elisa igm and elisa iga were constantly negative betweeen 17 and 32 months in one case, and between 48 and 60 months in the other (this last one had presented a severe clinic disease). in the group ii, four patients were positive with ihat, however only one for elisa iga, the latter also presented elisa igm near the cut off. the use of elisa igg, elsia igm and elisa iga in the immunodiagnosis of trichinosis is discussed.

Abstract: the crucial question we ask today is: how do we reinvent the space of politics in the conditions established by the neoliberal globalization process? the last decades were characterized by the overshadowing of politics, subordinated to economy and market forces. about this issue, key to consider the possibility of alternative emancipating projects, it is necessary to reflect on justice, equality, freedom, social bonds, the problem of representation and the new social movements of resistance. from this appeal to subjects and the invention by social forces, it is necessary to reactivate the instituting forces of utopia to join freedom and equality in the horizon of another globalization. the project of a fair and sympathetic society will only be possible by a creative way of thinking, which would dare to consider what has not been considered before, the lines of flight, the event.

Abstract: mites that affect animals (acariasis) can occasionally be transmitted to humans by incidental contact producing pruritus and dermatitis. animals such as dogs, cats, mice, birds and reptiles, harbour several mite species. hemophage mites and those that feed on lymph have the potential of transmitting important zoonotic agents (cuales??). the presence of lesions of unclear origin and a history of contact with pets or wild animals should alert towards the possibility of acariasis. diagnosis is based on direct visualization of the mite, analysis of its morphology and obtaining information on the animal host. awareness of these acarosis and the responsible care of pets and animals are the most relevant preventive measures.

Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances , 2012,
Abstract: Five modifications in ante mortem management practices were evaluated in their association with the presence of DFD meat. The study was done in winter in 2 feedlots in Mexicali, Baja California, using information from 400 animals organized in 2 2 tables. The results show 30.27% of DFD meat. Moreover, temperatures above 16 C during driving, the use of the whip instead of the plastic goad and longer waiting time in rest pens continued to be factors related themselves (p<0.05) with the presence of DFD meat. Non-mixing animals among pens for their transportation as well as the total waiting time prior to slaughter resulted non-associated (p>0.05). The high percentage of DFD meat during winter, even with changes in management practices, makes it necessary to continue evaluating practices of animal wellbeing in searching of decreasing the amount of DFD meat.
