Abstract: in this article we present data from research that aimed at identifying and analyzing the practices developed by psychologists in public schools in the state of paraná. we discuss, briefly, the historical constitution of the school psychologist and then show how it was initially supported by a traditional point of view. it was criticized in the 1980′s, resulting in a performance based on assumptions of the cultural-historical psychology, grounded on marxism. later we reveal some data from the questionnaires, characterizing the first phase of the research. we emphasize the fact that professionals go through a transitional period, as we noticed throughout the research that there is an ongoing movement towards practices and understanding of school complaints pointed out in the actions that involve the school context. finally, we highlight the importance of the cultural- historical psychology, taking into consideration that it favors the humanization process and may contribute to assist psychologists to a better understanding of man.

Estudos de Psicologia (Natal) , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-294X2007000100009
Abstract: compliance is a complex behavior, ranging from minor instances of treatment refusal to the inappropriate use of health services or even treatment abandonment. the study comprises a qualitative analysis of six patients with borderline personality disorder submitted to an open interview, a psychosocial questionnaire, a diagnostic classification through scdi i and ii and a clinical follow-up. six behaviors made treatment compliance either difficult or impossible: impulsivity, manipulation, affective dissociation, attempted suicide, tendency to regression, and aggression. the participants who abandoned the treatment made the health team impotent, requiring social strategies to manage the situation. we hypothesized that healthy families are of great importance for compliance to treatment. for the cases in which treatment was not abandoned, non-compliance was manifested as attacks against the bonds and against the improvement, and aggression towards the health team and the institution.

Abstract: Introduction: The otoacoustic emissions test is an essential tool in the evaluation of auditory function, since it allows the early detection of cochlear damage of occupational origin. Objective: To present a review of the literature and analyze the effectiveness of the clinical application of the otoacoustic emissions test in workers exposed to noise. Methods: A bibliographical search covering a period of 10 years was performed in the Virtual Health Library including published articles in national and international journals indexed in the internationally recognized databases for the health sciences, LILACS, SCIELO, and MEDLINE, using the terms "otoacoustic emissions" and "occupational exposure." The type of published article (national/international), the type and intensity of the stimulus most commonly used for the evoked otoacoustic emissions, the gender and age of the subjects, and the conclusions from the retrospective studies were all taken into consideration. Results and Conclusions: A total of 19 articles were analyzed, 7 national and 12 international, covering subjects from 17 to 77 years of age, mostly men. The type of stimulus most commonly used for the evoked otoacoustic emissions was the distortion method (12). Through this review, we have concluded that testing of evoked otoacoustic emissions in workers exposed to noise is an important tool in the early diagnosis of noise-induced cochlear hearing disorders.

Abstract: pleomorphic adenoma (pa), the most common salivary gland tumor, accounts for 54 to 65% of all salivary gland neoplasias and 80% of the benign salivary gland tumors. it most frequently affects the parotid gland, followed by the submandibular and the minor salivary glands. microscopically, mucous, sebaceous, oncocytic and squamous metaplasia, sometimes with the formation of keratin pearls, may be present, but the latter rarely results in the formation of extensive keratin-flled cysts lined by squamous epithelium. extensive squamous metaplasia can be mistaken for malignancy, including mucoepidermoid carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. here, we present an unusual case of pa with extensive squamous metaplasia and keratin cyst formations in a minor salivary gland, and discuss its microscopic features, including the immunohistochemical characteristics, and differential diagnosis of this uncommon presentation.

Abstract: context: studies in the area of health economics are still poorly explored and it is known that the cost savings in this area is becoming more necessary, provided that strict criteria. objective: to perform a cost-effectiveness analysis of spinal anesthesia versus local anesthesia plus sedation for loop colostomy closure. methods: this was a randomized clinical trial with 50 patients undergoing loop colostomy closure either under spinal anesthesia (n = 25) or under local anesthesia plus sedation (n = 25). the duration of the operation, time spent in the post-anesthesia recovery room, pain, postoperative complications, length of hospital stay, laboratory and imaging examinations and need for rehospitalization and reoperation were analyzed. the direct medical costs were analyzed. a decision tree model was constructed. the outcome measures were mean cost and cost per local and systemic postoperative complications avoided. incremental cost-effectiveness ratios were presented. results: duration of operation: 146 ± 111.5 min. vs 105 ± 23.6 min. (p = 0.012); mean time spent in post-anesthesia recovery room: 145 ± 110.8 min. vs 36.8 ± 34.6 min. (p<0.001). immediate postoperative pain was lower with local anesthesia plus sedation (p<0.05). local and systemic complications were fewer with local anesthesia plus sedation (p = 0.209). hospitalization + rehospitalization: 4.5 ± 4.1 days vs 2.9 ± 2.2 days (p<0.0001); mean spending per patient: r$ 5,038.05 vs 2,665.57 (p<0.001). incremental cost-effectiveness ratio: r$ -474.78, indicating that the strategy with local anesthesia plus sedation is cost saving. conclusion: in the present investigation, loop colostomy closure under local anesthesia plus sedation was effective and appeared to be a dominant strategy, compared with the same surgical procedure under spinal anesthesia.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the levels of inclusion of babassu coconut (0, 4, 8 and 12%) in diets for broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days old. 200 Hubbard chicks were distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replications, being each experimental unit composed of 10 birds. The treatments consisted in experimental diets containing increasing levels of inclusion of babassu coconut (0, 4, 8 and 12%), formulated to contain the same nutritional level. The performance of variables evaluated were feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion. The apparent metabolizable energy, diary retention of gross energy, dry matter and nitrogen of experimental diets was determined by total collection of excreta for three consecutive days, which are analyzed together with the feed for dry matter, gross energy and nitrogen contents. The inclusion of the babassu not affected any of the evaluated variables. Likewise, there was no effect of inclusion levels of babassu coconut on the apparent metabolizable energy and the diary of retention of gross energy. On this basis, the babassu coconut can be used as an ingredient in diets of broilers from 1 to 21 days until the level of 12%.

Abstract: The present study aims to discuss the application of educational resource “Children with Developmental Coordination Disorder: at Home, at School and in the Community” (Missiuna, Rivard, & Pollock, 2011) for parents of seven-year-old children of a public school in a Brazilian city. The booklet aims to help parents and teachers identify and manage school-aged children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD). Methods: The contents of the booklet were used in a group of four parents of children previously identified with DCD in the school environment using a workshop. Results: The meetings of the parents were oriented to the characterization of the disorder. The activities helped parents understand the difficulties of their children. Conclusion: In this study it was found that the use of the educational resources together with games proved to be an important approach to working with parents of children with DCD. However, it is important to expand the number of participants in future studies.
