Reis, Zilma Silveira Nogueira;Lage, Eura Martins;Teixeira, Patrícia Gonalves;Porto, Ludmila Barcelos;Guedes, Ludmila Resende;Oliveira, érica Carla Lage de;Cabral, Ant?nio Carlos Vieira;
Revista Brasileira de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-72032010001200004
Abstract: purpose: to evaluate the differences between the maternal and perinatal outcomes of pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia, according to the classification as the severe/mild form, and the early/late onset form. methods: a retrospective study with 211 pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia, assessed at a university reference center from 2000 to 2010. the diagnosis and disease severity were based on the values of blood pressure, proteinuria, and clinical and laboratory findings. the pregnant's age, skin color, parity, blood pressure, urine protein semiquantitative values, presence of bilateral notch in the uterine artery dopplervelocimetry and birth conditions were compared between patients with mild and severe disease, as well as between those of early/late onset. the disease was considered to be of early onset when diagnosed at less than 34 weeks of gestational age. results: most patients had the severe form of preeclampsia (82.8%), and the onset of the condition was early in 50.7%. blood pressure values (133.6±14.8 versus 115.4 mmhg, p=0.0004 and 132.2±16.5 versus 125.7 mmhg, p=0.0004) and semiquantitative proteinuria (p=0.0003 and p=0.0005) were higher in the early and severe forms compared to mild and late forms. infant birth weight (1,435.4±521.6 versus 2,710±605.0 g, 1,923.7±807.9 versus 2,415.0±925.0 g, p<0.0001 for both) and apgar score (p=0.01 for both) were smaller for severe and early preeclampsia compared to mild and late preeclampsia. on the other hand, the presence of a bilateral notch in the uterine arteries was linked to the forms of early onset (69.2 versus 47.9%, p=0.02), whereas fetal growth restriction was more frequent in the severe forms of preeclampsia (30 versus 4.4%, p=0.008). conclusion: the preeclampsia classification based on maternal clinical parameters better reflected the conditions of fetal nutrition, while the early onset of the condition was associated with placental vasculopathy detected by dopplervelocimetry.
Derivation of the Stochastic Burgers equation from the WASEP
Patrícia Gonalves
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: In these notes we give a simple proof of the second-order Boltzmann-Gibbs Principle, which is the main tool in order to prove that the equilibrium fluctuations of the WASEP are given, in the regime of the critical strength asymmetry, by the Stochastic Burgers equation.

Abstract: bovine babesiosis and anaplasmosis are diseases transmitted by boophilus microplus and haematophagous diptera, respectively, occurring in endemic character in brazil, resulting in high economic loss on livestock production. in this country a wide range of epidemiological factors influencing their occurrence, such as climate variations, husbandry practices, tick control and susceptible purebreed cattle that are regularly imported to upgrade local stocks have been described. this review focuses the epidemiological control and some aspects of bovine babesiosis and anaplasmosis in brazil, with emphasis in southeast region. factors influencing enzootic stability and instability of both species are also discussed. the control measures employed at present are chemoprophylaxis, use of acaricides for b. microplus, premunition and vaccination.

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2015.610130
Abstract: Purpose: The objective of this study was to compare the performance of Phonological Processing (Phonological Awareness, Lexical Acess and Working Memory) between children with ADHD and children with typical development. Methods: Participated in this study, 30 school aged children of both genders aged between 9 - 12 years, divided into 2 groups: Experimental Group (EG), 15 children with ADHD combined type and, Control Group (CG), 15 children with typical development, who attended elementary school in public and private education. The instruments utilized were: Phonological Awareness Test—Sequential Assessment Tool (CONFIAS); Rapid automatic Naming Testd); and Proof of repetition of nonsense words (Kessler, 1997). Results: The results revealed differences between in the instruments used. Conclusion: Regarding the performance of Phonological Processing, the children with ADHD showed lower performance in Phonological Awareness, Access to Lexical and Phonological Memory compared to children with typical development.
Crossover to the KPZ equation
Patrícia Gonalves,Milton Jara
Mathematics , 2010, DOI: 10.1007/s00023-011-0147-7
Abstract: We characterize the crossover regime to the KPZ equation for a class of one-dimensional weakly asymmetric exclusion processes. The crossover depends on the strength asymmetry $an^{2-\gamma}$ ($a,\gamma>0$) and it occurs at $\gamma=1/2$. We show that the density field is a solution of an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck equation if $\gamma\in(1/2,1]$, while for $\gamma=1/2$ it is an energy solution of the KPZ equation. The corresponding crossover for the current of particles is readily obtained.
Density fluctuations for exclusion processes with long jumps
Patrícia Gonalves,Milton Jara
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: We show that the stationary density fluctuations of exclusion processes with long jumps, whose rates are of the form $c^\pm |y-x|^{-(1+\alpha)}$ where $c\pm$ depends on the sign of $y-x$, are given by a fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process for $\alpha \in (0,\frac{3}{2})$. When $\alpha =\frac{3}{2}$ we show that the density fluctuations are tight, in a suitable topology, and that any limit point is an energy solution of the fractional Burgers equation, previously introduced in [13] in the finite volume setting.

Interface - Comunica??o, Saúde, Educa??o , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-32832012005000025
Abstract: mentoring has been adopted in medical schools as a strategy to support and stimulate the professional development of medical students. however, the literature has seldom focused on the mentor, a crucial element of this archetypal relationship. the purpose of this paper was to understand the motivations of a group of mentors and to identify possible changes that take place over time. it is a qualitative study wherein 14 mentors involved in a mentoring program of a medical school were interviewed. mentors reveal the desire to recover the old, meaningful and close master-apprentice relationship. symbolically, they seek to stay in touch and take care of their "internal wounded student". along the journey, mentors may - but not necessarily will - transform and be transformed by others.
