Physics , 2003, DOI: 10.1016/S0375-9601(03)00805-3
Abstract: The magnetic field redefinition in Jain's composite fermion model for the fractional quantum Hall effect is shown to be effectively described by a mean-field approximation of a model containing a Maxwell-Chern-Simons gauge field non-minimally coupled to matter. Also an explicit non-relativistic limit of the non-minimal (2+1)D Dirac equation is derived.

Physics , 2013,
Abstract: In this work nanometric spinel Co${}_{1-x}$Cu${}_{x}$Fe${}_{2}$O${}_{4}$ powders were obtained by polymeric precursors method at several annealing temperatures between 700 and 1200 ${}^\circ$C. The samples were characterized by means of X-ray powder diffraction, confirming the ideal inverse spinel structure for CoFe${}_{2}$O${}_{4}$ sample and the tetragonal distorted inverse spinel structure for CuFe${}_{2}$O${}_{4}$ sample. Based on FWHM evaluation, we estimated that crystallite sizes varies between 27 and 37 nm for the non-substituted samples. The optical-active modes were determined by infrared and Raman spectroscopies. The phonon spectra showed a local tetragonal distortion for mixed samples.

Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0365-05962011000400037
Abstract: keratitis-ichthyosis-deafness (kid) syndrome is a rare congenital ectodermal dysplasia affecting skin, the corneal epithelium and inner ear. clinical signs consist of erythrokeratodermal plaques on the face and skin folds, usually present from birth, as well as severe and bilateral sensorineural hearing loss and corneal vascularization associated with slow-progressing keratitis which follows skin and hearing changes at puberty. in view of symptoms of deafness, blindness, skin infections and the risk of malignant degeneration, early diagnosis of the syndrome is essential, together with clinical follow-up and genetic counseling

Iheringia. Série Zoologia , 2013,
Abstract: This study comprises the description of relative growth and sexual maturity of a population of Palaemon pandaliformis Stimpson, 1871 in Salsa River (Northeastern Brazil). Samples were collected monthly between September 2009 and August 2010. Females were larger, heavier, and showed a greater allometric coefficient (b) than male specimens. Only carapace length vs. pleura length in females presented a significant difference in the relative growth pattern, indicating a puberty moult. This relationship is strictly correlated to reproduction and its success rate in female shrimps. Estimated carapace length in 50% of mature females (CL50) was 4.53 mm. It was not possible to compare obtained CL50 results due to a lack of studies on this species. Comparison was based on the size of the smallest captured ovigerous female (3.81 CL mm), which is within the scope of recorded size for estuaries located in higher latitudes. This study reveals the lack of research on this genre in freshwater environments on a national and global scale.

Abstract: Fluids in which Mycobacterium tuberculosis are seldom found, such as pleural and cerebrospinal liquids, are good candidates to be studied using PCR techniques. We detail our experience with a PCR assay applied to pleural and cerebrospinal fluids using the primer MPB64. Seventy three specimens were analyzed: 30 pleural fluids (PF), 26 pleural biopsies (PB) and 17 cerebrospinal fluids (CSF). The gold standard for the diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis was the positive culture for M. tuberculosis in CSF. Tuberculous pleural effusion was diagnosed when cultures of PF and/or PB were positive for M. tuberculosis, or the PB histology showed granulomas. Our results, compared to the gold standards employed, showed a sensitivity of 70%, specificity of 88%, positive predictive value of 82% and negative predictive value of 80%. The high specificity of the MPB64 fragment while still retaining a good sensitivity makes it very well suited for pleural and cerebrospinal tuberculosis diagnosis.

Physics , 2005, DOI: 10.1007/s10773-007-9413-3
Abstract: We present an N=2-supersymmetric mechanical system whose bosonic sector, with two degrees of freedom, stems from the reduction of an SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with the assumption of spatially homogeneous field configurations and a particular ansatz imposed on the gauge potentials in the dimensional reduction procedure. The Painleve test is adopted to discuss integrability and we focus on the role of supersymmetry and parity invariance in two space dimensions for the attainment of integrable or chaotic models. Our conclusion is that the relationships among the parameters imposed by supersymmetry seem to drastically reduce the number of possibilities for integrable interaction potentials of the mechanical system under consideration.
