Psammocarcinoma of ovary with serous cystadenofibroma of contralateral ovary: a case report

Abstract: We herein report a case of psammocarcinoma of ovary with serous cystadenofibroma of contralateral ovary in a 55 year old Asian Indian female.To the best of author's knowledge, ours is the rare case describing coexistence of this very rare malignant serous epithelial tumor with a benign serous cystadenofibroma of contralateral ovary.Psammocarcinoma of ovary is a rare serous neoplasm. Diagnosis requires the psammoma bodies to be present in at least 75% of papillae which show a destructive invasion of the ovarian stroma. The neoplastic cells do not show more than moderate atypia. There should be no areas of solid proliferation of neoplastic cells. These tumors are associated with a better prognosis than conventional serous neoplasms with low recurrence following tumor resection [1]. Literature search showed presence of only 28 cases of psammocarcinoma of ovary reported till date (Table 1) [1-17]. This case will be another new one in the literature with serous cystadenofibroma of contralateral ovary and elevated levels of CA-125.A 55-year-old Asian Indian female presented to gynecology clinic with complaints of menorrhagia, abdominal discomfort and pain. On Examination a mass was palpable in the lower abdomen which was non tender and fixed. Ultrasound (USG) examination revealed the presence of an abdomino-pelvic mass and ascites. Contrast-enhanced computed tomogram (CECT) revealed an abdominopelvic lobulated calcified mass measuring 17 × 15 × 16 cms (Fig 1a). Clinically, a possibility of calcified fibroid of uterus was suspected. However, cytologic examination of ascitic fluid was positive for malignant cells. On exploratory laparotomy, bilateral ovaries were enlarged with intact capsule. Total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed. Abstract: Mammalian sex hormones are spread in the environment from natural and anthropogenic sources. In the present study, the effect of estradiol on Arabidopsis thaliana growth primary metabolism, phenylpropanoid and flavonoid pathways and pathogen resistance were investigated. Treatments of Arabidopsis plants with 10 and 100 nM 17β-estradiol resulted in enhanced root growth and shoot biomass. In addition, treated plants had an increased rate of photosynthesis with a concomitant increase in carbohydrate and protein accumulation. Plants exposed to higher concentrations of 17β-estradiol (10 μM) had significantly lower root growth, biomass, photosynthesis rate, primary metabolite and phenylpropanoid and flavonoid contents indicating a toxic effect of estradiol. Treatments with increasing estradiol concentrations (10 nM, 100 nM and 10 μM) resulted in the downregulation of phenylpropanoid-flavonoid pathway genes (PAL1, PAL4, CHI and ANS) and subsequent decreased accumulation of phenolics, flavonoids and anthocyanins. Estradiol-treated plants were inoculated with Pseudomonas syringae pv. Tomato DC3000 and basal resistance was determined. Estradiol treatments rendered plants susceptible to the pathogen, thus compromising the plant defense mechanisms. These results indicate that at low concentrations, estradiol functions as a biostimulant of growth, yield and primary metabolism of Arabidopsis. Abstract: Animal steroidal hormones, including estrogens, are being introduced into the agricultural soil and water supply from increased pharmaceutical and farm waste. Considering the current levels of xenoestrogen contamination of plant environments in view of the climate change induced drought conditions, this study was designed to understand the effect of estradiol (ES) application on Arabidopsis drought stress responses. Estradiol treatment (10 nM, 100 nM) of plants subjected to drought stress conditions by withholding water for 7 days resulted in increased tolerance to drought stress reflected in the significantly higher plant survival rates of 74% and 78%, respectively compared to control plants’ survival rates of 36% (no treatment) and 40% (mock treatment). Estradiol application significantly increased the content of glutathione, proline and H2O2 and significantly enhanced the transcription of the stress responsive genes GSTU3, GER5, HSP101, and HSP70b. A high concentration of ES (10 μM) did not protect plants against drought stress and proved to be toxic. These results provide new insight into the effect of ES on drought-stress responses in Arabidopsis with possible practical agricultural applications regarding the effect of environmental estrogens on crop plants.

Abstract: In this topic, an analysis will be made on bandwidth flow estimation technique which comes under networking domain. Correct bandwidth constrained applications and tools are required for proper bandwidth estimation. A proper monitoring of available bandwidth is required during execution to avoid degradation in performance. A several measurement tools have been proposed in the last few years. After the implementation of 802.11e Wireless Sensor Networks are capable to provide good level of QoS but research works are not much for improving performance of bandwidth constraint applications by checking sufficiency of bandwidth available in transmission route. In this topic we will do the analysis of bandwidth flow estimation technique for wired/wireless networks and we will do comparisons of existing estimation tools.

Abstract: Let G be a finitely generated group with a given word metric. The asymptotic density of elements in G that have a particular property P is defined to be the limit, as r goes to infinity, of the proportion of elements in the ball of radius r which have the property P. We obtain a formula to compute the asymptotic density of finite-order elements in any virtually nilpotent group. Further, we show that the spectrum of numbers that occur as such asymptotic densities consists of exactly the rational numbers in [0,1).

Abstract: Identifying the presence of cognitive impairment in patients admitted for inpatient rehabilitation is important as it may impact on their ability to participate in a rehabilitation program. The Folstein Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) has been used by clinicians as a cognitive screening tool for its convenience, even though it is not sensitive, and often fails to detect cognitive impairment. Recently, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) has been developed as a brief cognitive screening tool to detect mild-moderate cognitive impairment. We performed a longitudinal study to compare the utility of the MMSE and MoCA in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. A total of 50 consecutive patients were studied with an average age of 71.7 years of age. The mean test score for MMSE was 26.5 and 22.2 for the MoCA. The Pearson’s correlation coefficient between the scores was 0.695 (p < 0.003). The mean performance time for the MMSE was 7.4 minutes and 14.8 minutes for the MoCA. MMSE did not perform well as a screening instrument for mild cognitive impairment as there were 43 patients who scored 24 or more on MMSE, and 25 patients (58%) scored 25 or less on MoCA, indicating the presence of cognitive impairment. Even though the MoCA takes longer to administer, the additional important information provided indicates that the MoCA should be used rather than the MMSE as a cogni-tive screening tool.

e-Governance facilities are being used nowadays by citizens in various Government projects of the country. But the integration of mobile technologies with the e-Governance projects can lead to more human interaction and benefits for the society as a whole. This will result in having more impact on the lives of the common citizens and increase in awareness of such e-Governance projects. The paper introduces the features, technologies and design of the Android mobile device application, mobileLoanapp for the customer (client) of the bank for the loan approval process. The e-Land record information system has been designed and implemented with Google Map using Mobile Commerce by developing this mobile app. This m-app has been developed so as to provide improved and flexible e-Governance facility to the common citizens of the country. The proposed system if adapted will pave the way for the real-time applications to be embedded with the e-Governance facilities. This paper presents the overall system architecture along with its functional components and scope of the very appealing m-application (mobileLoanapp) for bank loan approval process in interconnection with the land server (part of Farad Kendra’s). The overall advantages of the proposed m-app have also been determined in comparison to the existing e-Governance system, giving a viable option to adopt and make use of integration of mobile technologies for providing e-Governance through this m-app.
