Abstract: New recycling alternative for multilayer films was successfully presented. Food packaging formed from different materials is difficult to recycle. The use of aluminum, glass, paper, paints, varnishes, and other materials in the rolling processes from plastic packaging is intended to optimize the efficiency of packaging. Nevertheless, these materials prevent the recycling of packaging because they become contaminants to the recycling process. Food multilayered packaging containing poly (ethylene terephthalate) PET, poly (ethylene) PE and aluminum was used as filler in the preparation of composites with post-consumer high density polyethylene matrix. Composites containing up to 50 wt% of filler were feasible to prepare, allowing the obtention of a material with varied mechanical and thermal properties. This feature allows the preparation of composites suitable for specific application. The addition of multilayer matter in the polyethylene matrix provided a material with excellent mechanical properties such as higher tensile impact strength (148 J/m) and elasticity (350 MPa) as compared to pure polyethylene (40 J/m and 450 MPa).
Change-Point Analysis of Survival Data with Application in Clinical Trials  [PDF]

Abstract: Effects of many medical procedures appear after a time lag, when a significant change occurs in subjects’ failure rate. This paper focuses on the detection and estimation of such changes which is important for the evaluation and comparison of treatments and prediction of their effects. Unlike the classical change-point model, measurements may still be identically distributed, and the change point is a parameter of their common survival function. Some of the classical change-point detection techniques can still be used but the results are different. Contrary to the classical model, the maximum likelihood estimator of a change point appears consistent, even in presence of nuisance parameters. However, a more efficient procedure can be derived from Kaplan-Meier estimation of the survival function followed by the least-squares estimation of the change point. Strong consistency of these estimation schemes is proved. The finite-sample properties are examined by a Monte Carlo study. Proposed methods are applied to a recent clinical trial of the treatment program for strong drug dependence.

本文建议通过进行基于被试个体的统计分析来检验这样的效应, 并介绍了一些不同形式的方法:PP 概率图(probability probability plots); P 值分布检验(tests of the distribution of p-values); 分层取样多重检验的矫正(correction for multiple testing with step-down resampling)。

Abstract: Article in English, Abstracts in Spanish, German and English.Stephen Jay Gould wrote recently that “when Church began to paint his great canvases, Alexander von Humboldt may well have been the world’s most famous and influential intellectual.” Humboldt’s influence in the case of the landscape artist Church is especially interesting. If we examine the precise relationship between the German explorer and his American admirer, we gain an insight into how Humboldt transformed Church’s life and signaled a new phase in the career of the artist. Church retraced Humboldt’s travels in Ecuador and in Mexico. If we compare the texts available to Church and the comparison of Church’s paintings and the texts and images of Humboldt’s works we can arrive at new perspectives on Humboldt’s extraordinary influence on American landscape painting in the nineteenth century.

Abstract: Mica” Company, through the mining complex it owned in Brad area in the Apuseni mountains, was to be the largest gold producer in Romania between the 20s and the 40s of the twentieth century. The operation of the mining complex in Brad area, including mining sites, processing units, a power plant, a railway system, as well as social and cultural facilities, needed work force. Our study focuses on the way in which the managers of Mica” Company, especially the ones of Mica” Brad, selected and trained this work force in order to cope with the complexity of production activities.

Access to water is one of the major challenges of urban policies implemented in developing countries. These policies aimed either to provide a global access in order to control urban spaces or to segment water supply to offer different services and features to comply with the diversity of actors. What is therefore the impact, in terms of spatial dimension, of different strategies followed by French speaking Sub-Saharan African cities ? In this paper, we combine approaches that explain conflicting actors' strategies with spatial analysis that explain the complexity of urban space organization. We outline three phases characterised by an original articulation among water governance modes and urban space organization. As a first step, we note that the trend towards dual urban organisation is reinforced by a segmented access to services. As a second step, we show how the measures advocated within the International Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Decade of the eighties corresponded to the will to homogenise cities. As a third step, we assess the impact of models such as the private/public partnership model in the process of urban fragm
