Paleogeography and Sequence Stratigraphy in Dariyan Carbonate Reservoir, NE Shiraz  [PDF]
Amir Karimian Torghabeh, Nuno Pimentel
Open Journal of Geology (OJG) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojg.2016.611101
Abstract: Zagros Basin is a very important hydrocarbon region in the Iran and World. One of the major reservoirs in this basin is the Lower Cretaceous Dariyan Formation. Based on petrographic studies, 9 microfacies were determined and interpreted as related to lagoon, barrier island and open marine environments. Facies associations show deposition in a carbonate ramp. Sequence stratigraphy studies show two sequences, each one with a transgressive system tract, marked by open marine microfacies, and then a retrogradational highstand, marked by barrier and lagoonal facies. Paleogeography and sequence stratigraphy studies of this formation and correlation of it with other sections may provide useful information about reservoir characterizations.
Epidemiological studies are like cherries, one draws another
Lunet,Nuno;
Gaceta Sanitaria , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0213-91112009000500021
Abstract: the proverb "words are like cherries", meaning that when you start talking subjects pop up and you end up with long conversations, just like cherries coming out of the plate in chains when you pick one, may also be applied to epidemiological research. a sequence of epidemiological studies, each being drawn from the previous, is presented as an example of how each investigation may raise new questions to be addressed in following studies. this description stresses the need for appropriate planning and the usefulness of pilot testing to depict inadequacies that can hardly be anticipated without field work. i intend to illustrate how epidemiological research can provide a deep approach to research questions, as long as findings are properly interpreted and suboptimal methodological options are taken into account in future investigations.
Os usos da narrativa futebolística portuguesa em Maputo
Domingos,Nuno;
Etnográfica , 2012,
Abstract: this article researches the social uses in maputo of what is here called the “narrative of portuguese football”. the relation between the portuguese populations in the capital of mozambique with this narrative will be interpreted as a critical exam of the connection made between football as a particular consumption, taken as a characteristic of the national culture, and the existence of a portuguese community. represented as a homogenised whole this community reifies the logic of a national history. in maputo’s case, however, the study of portuguese football allows not only to -confront the homogenising discourse on national communities but also to question that transnational community called lusophone, which gathers a group of countries supposedly united by a cultural heritage.
A vida sexual dos anúncios pessoais: Uma revis?o da literatura
Nodin,Nuno;
Análise Psicológica , 2007,
Abstract: the current review covers the scientific literature that uses personal advertisements published in the press, on the internet and in other media as a source of data. the reviewed studies can be separated into three non-discreet categories: (1) the analysis of courtship patters in men and women, (2) the analysis of gender and sexuality patterns in their relation with sexual orientation, and (3) the analysis of hiv sexual risk and protective behaviours, in particular among gay men. advantages and limitations of the use of personal ads within the context of scientific research are discussed, as well as the impact of increased popularity of the internet upon this phenomenon.

Futebol e colonialismo, domina??o e apropria??o: sobre o caso mo?ambicano
Domingos,Nuno;
Análise Social , 2006,
Abstract: this article deals with the relationship between football and colonialism, examining the period when mozambique was a portuguese colony. an analysis of a glossary of local terms (in the ronga language of the south of the country) is used to examine the tension between the mechanisms whereby the sport was introduced and its appropriation by the local people. the glossary describes game situations and was compiled in a journal article by the poet josé craveirinha in 1955.
Editores e Estado Novo: o lugar do Grémio Nacional dos Editores e Livreiros
Medeiros,Nuno;
Análise Social , 2008,
Abstract: the reorganizing of the publishing sphere of the social space of the book during the estado novo regime in portugal takes place, in a surprisingly vibrant fashion, in a scenario of difficulties and obstacles. dwelling on the relation collectively established between publishers and the political power in place by exploring the grémio nacional dos editores e livreiros (national publishers and booksellers guild), the article seeks to understand the institutional dynamics of the publishing world, thus overcoming current beliefs still prevailing about the connection of such a world with political projects of authoritarian nature, which tend to oversimplify a field with a complex, ambiguous and contradictory framework.

Gastric cancer: frequency and trends
Lunet,Nuno;
Arquivos de Medicina , 2006,
Abstract: a continued international decline in gastric cancer mortality is one of the most remarkable events in cancer epidemiology. this "unplanned triumph", however, is characterized by geographical differences in cancer frequency and trends, both between and within countries. the declining incidence of gastric carcinoma could be explained primarily by the decrease in the relative number of intestinal type cases, and the cancers of the cardia show increasing or stable trends. the understanding of the site and histological type specific trends in each region, overcoming the methodological difficulties and the gaps in our knowledge of cancer aetiology, are essential to predict the future burden of gastric cancer.
Literacia Científica e Educa??o de Ciência. Dois objectivos para a mesma aula.
Vieira,Nuno;
Revista Lusófona de Educa??o , 2007,
Abstract: this article presents an historical perspective of sciences teaching, from the ends of the 19th century till nowadays. we consider that the years of 1950 and 1983 represent important changes in this domain. in 1950, teaching sciences didn’t intend to form citizens with a critical position related to science and citizenry but started to privilege the scientific contents and to give emphasis to the scientific method. 1983 was the year that the relation between science and society raised again, including the technology. currently, it is intended to create informed citizens, capable of participating in scientific debates, considering them noteworthy to their everyday life. in the second part of this article we propose goals for the future of the sciences teaching. the importance of international tests and classifications must be minimized. these lead to a deterioration of the education system. political decisions are made to improve the classification, the essential pillars for the construction of a scientific literate society are destroyed, and each local singularity isn’t considered. therefore, the goals of pupils or teachers are not regarded and the innovation and the school activities creativity are inhibited.
