Ponciano, Niraldo José;Campos, Ant?nio Carvalho;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402003000300006
Abstract: this study evaluates the impacts of the elimination of taxes on brazilian agricultural exports. a computable general equilibrium model is used to simulate the reaction of the economic agents to those changes. the elimination of the taxes on exports promotes an increase in the level of exports and more competition with agro-industrial activities and domestic consumption. consequently, there is a fall on the level of family income and, as a result, decreases in the family consumption expenses. there was a generalized fall in the levels of consumers' welfare, even though with gains in the level of rural employment and in the foreign exchange earnings.

Abstract: Propolis is a natural resin used around the world to treatment of several diseases. We evaluated the effect of Brazilian propolis (P1) in guinea pig isolated trachea in vitro contracted with hista-mine, in paw oedema induced by histamine in mice and anti-ulcerogenic effect of propolis formulation in mice. We used a P1 extract from South of Brazil to produce a formulation containing sodium bicarbonate and propolis dry extract (2%). In the guinea pig trachea Brazilian propolis extract (10 μg/mL) produced a non-significant inhibition in the cumulative response curve for histamine. However, the dose of 100 μg/mL shown had a significant inhibitory effect on the contraction induced by histamine (51% ± 5%). In the mouse paw oedema induced by intraplantar injection of histamine (50 μg/paw), the results showed that the treatment of the mice with P1 (10 or 100 mg/Kg (p.o) or 1 or 10 mg/Kg (i.p)), 0.5 h beforehand, significantly inhibited the paw oedema with maximal inhibition (MI) of 25% or 42% by p.o. route or 22% or 37% by i.p. route, respectively. Finally we have pre-treated mice with P1 formulation (20 mg/Kg or 40 mg/Kg, p.o, one time) or vehicle (powder) in animals submitted to diclofenac-induced ulcer, after 8 h P1 formulation inhibited of 43% or 83% of ulcers scores, respectively. Results showed that P1 formulation inhibited the ulcerogenic effect induced by diclofenac. Results suggested also, at least in part, the antiulcerogenic effect of formulation containing standardized extract of propolis can be due to the antagonistic action on the histaminergic system.
Evolu??o da distribui??o dos financiamentos do PRONAF entre as unidades da federa??o, no período de 1999 a 2009
Souza, Paulo Marcelo de;Ney, Marlon Gomes;Ponciano, Niraldo José;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402011000300005
Abstract: the objective of this study is to analyze the distribution of the proanf resources between the federation units, during the last decade. the results show that, initially, the distribution of these resources became less concentrated. however, this trend changed at the end of the period, and, currently, the pronaf resources remains concentrated in a few states, mainly rio grande do sul, santa catarina, paraná and minas gerais. it was also observed that the distribution of the resources does not reflect, completely, the distribution of familiar agriculture between the states. these resources have been directed, mainly, to states whose participation in the value produced by familiar agriculture is high.
A hybrid genetic-linear algorithm for 2D inversion of sets of vertical electrical sounding
Ferreira, Niraldo R.;Porsani, Milton José;Oliveira, Saulo Pomponet de;
Revista Brasileira de Geofísica , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-261X2003000300003
Abstract: the inversion of vertical electrical sounding (ves) is normally performed considering a stratified medium formed by homogeneous, isotropic and horizontal layers. the simplicity of this geophysical model makes the inversion simple and computationally fast, and together with the main characteristics of the electroresistivity method, it was greatly responsible to make ves one of the most popular geophysical method for groundwater exploration and engineering geophysics. however, even in a sedimentary basin where the geology is more conform, the assumption of horizontal and homogeneous layers is not necessarily valid, limiting the reliability of the inversion results. in this paper we present a fast and robust 2d resistivity modeling and inversion algorithm for the interpretation of sets of ves. we consider three inversion algorithms: the gauss-newton method of linearized inversion (li), the genetic algorithm (ga), and a hybrid approach (ga-li) that uses li to improve the best model at the end of each step of the ga. the medium parametrization consists of the partition of the domain into fixed homogeneous rectangular blocks such that their resistivities are the only free parameters. the apparent resistivity is evaluated by an iterative scheme that is derived from a finite-difference discretization of the potential differential equation. we enhance the convergence rate of the scheme by adopting an incomplete cholesky preconditioner. numerical results using synthetic and real 2d apparent resistivity data formed by sets of ves for the schlumberger configuration illustrate the performance of the hybrid ga-li algorithm. the ves field data were acquired near concei??o do coité, state of bahia, brazil. we compare the performance of the li, ga and ga-li algorithms.

Revista IDeAS : Interfaces em Desenvolvimento, Agricultura e Sociedade , 2009,
Abstract: With the deregulation of the coffee there was the need to discuss availability, export and consumption of the product through a perspective encompassing all links in the industrial chain of coffee. The process of commercialization of coffee led to further deepening of the interdependence of the segments of the export industry and the productive sectors. In this sense, it was aimed to analyze the industrial chain of Brazilian coffee after deregulation and its adjustments to meet market demands. Data and information were obtained on the Internet and works precursors. The results showed that the coffee remains one of the most important Brazilian agribusiness. With deregulation, there was instability in prices and adjustments in both prices and the imperfections of the actors in the chain occurred slowly. On the other hand, the market dynamics printed right across the industrial chain of coffee. We have created new niche markets, with emphasis on product differentiation, quality, certification, social responsibility, least harmful to the environment. There was a migration of production to regions with better climatic conditions, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. Segment marketing, there has been more emphasis on the formulation of blends aligned to the process of product differentiation to meet the industries and importers.

Pharmacology & Pharmacy (PP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/pp.2012.33047
Abstract: This work describes the synthesis, antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effect of O-prenyl derivatives: O-prenyl derivatives 2-(3-methylbut-2-enyloxy)acetophenone (L1) and 3-methoxy-4-(3-methylbut-2-enyloxy)benzaldehyde (V1). Treatment with L1- or V1-produced antinociceptive effect on classical pain models: acetic acid abdominal contortions and formalin test (first and second phases), and in hot plate or tale flick models in mice without changing the locomotors performance, and anti-oedematogenic or anti-inflammatory effect in vivo: carrageenan-induced paw oedema and peritonitis in mice. In addition, L1 and V1 derivatives reduced nitric oxide production on RAW 264.7 cells stimulated with lipopolysaccharide without changing the cell viability. Taken together, our results show for the first time that L1 and V1 can produce antinociception and modulate inflammatory response when administered in mice.

Machado Neto, Andrezza da Silva;Jasmim, Janie Mendes;Ponciano, Niraldo José;
Ciência Rural , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-84782011005000132
Abstract: the purpose of the research was to determine, through the calculation of net present value (vpl), internal return rate (tir) and economic payback (pbe), the viability of heliconias production in the rio de janeiro state, as well as identify and verify, by means of sensitivity analysis in which extent some factors of the production system exercise impact on the profitability of the producing regions. the results showed that helic?nia production is a profitable activity, according to the method of tir and considering minimal attractiveness rates (tma) of 6% and 12% for calculating the net present value (vpl). however, there are limitations in the sector of produce flow, delaying the consolidation of this market. the percentage of losses and the selling price of the product presented determinant factors on the time of return on investment (pbe). in addition, the selling price of the product was the variable with greater effect on profitability, followed by the land value and the seedlings cost.

Pesquisa Operacional , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-74382008000100007
Abstract: the objective of this work was to find systems of agricultural production that optimize the resources of familiar farmers of the north and northwest regions of the rio de janeiro, using the linear programming method. farmers of the pronaf groups (a, c and d) were interviewed, what allowed obtaining the information about resources endowment, production costs and gross margins. when the price risks were not included in the model, the guava was the best choice for the optimization of resources and income generation. when considered the price risks, through the motad model, it was concluded that production systems involving the simultaneous culture of passion fruit and guava, mainly, can reduce the risks, without causing a great loss of the income. it was evidenced, besides, that the pronaf resources contributed to raise the use of the land, to increase the return of the activities and for the rural employment.
