Social Production of Space: “Lived Space” of Informal Livelihood Operators; the Case of Dares Salaam City Tanzania  [PDF]
Nelly John Babere
Current Urban Studies (CUS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/cus.2015.34024
Abstract: This paper critically examines the social production of space for informal livelihood activities. While many progressive scholars have embraced the idea of eviction and harassment of the informal livelihood operators, what these scholars have often left unexplored is how informal operators contribute to the social production of space in urban areas. The first half of this paper focuses on the idea of Lefebvre’s conceptualisation of social production of space and the linkage with the informal livelihood activities. The second section focuses specifically on how social production of space is manifested in the operation of the informal livelihood operators. I argue that informal mode of production of space should be considered to inform how spaces for such activities are produced.

Signo y Pensamiento , 2006,
Abstract: the article describes the new forms for resistance in the economic and semiotic grids of the capitalist continuum. empire, with its globalized signs of cross-border nature, has replaced the old symbols of deeply rooted traditions and belonging. it is a 'trans-semiotic' grid of connectivity and 'non-differentiation', marked by the perpetual movement of meanings and the speed of exchanges. as a proposal, it moves forward in the concept of 'hybridity', through the problem of 'cultural tradition', which ends up bringing about ruptures between what is global and what is local through the transfer of meanings from one chain to another. in spite of those who insist that 'local' is not out of the global order, the "no place" opposes "all places" of the empire. this figure represents the liberating conditions of crowds, which is "to be against in all places", a characteristic that is not local -as a place- but of production of locality, that is, non belonging and permanent 'de-inscription'.

Nelly Flaux
Studii de Lingvistica , 2011,
Abstract: This paper deals with the main semantic and syntactic properties of the verb traduire ‘to translate’ and of the noun traduction ‘translation’. First, the different meanings of these two words will be outlined, in French and in other languages; it will be shown that the Husserlian notion of “ideal object” is essential to give a real account of the linguistic properties of the noun traduction when it denotes a text translated from one language into another; furthermore, the notion of ideality is important for the study of many nouns of music or language and might be extended to the domain of fine arts.

Reflections on Latinoamerican identity was traditionally linked to literature and humanities. From the 80’s, it slowly swerved to social sciences and communication. Approaches across disciplines have become mainstream, but this author suggests that, unlike non critical coexistence, cultural studies must accommodate to conceptual conflicts on the edge of disciplines building bridges between humanistic disciplines and technological ones in such a way that the latter are not meant superior in any way and the former are instrumental in turning upside down the straitjacket of the orderly world that technology renders.
