Abstract:
The authors report three cases of post-traumatic hemobilia. Hemobilia complicates about 0.5% to 2% of liver injuries. The diagnosis can be difficult because of its possible delay of appearance. The ultrasound and CT scan performed urgently are of great help in both positive diagnosis and monitoring of this pathology. Once the diagnosis is made—immediatly or a while after the trauma—a diagnostic and therapeutic arteriography must be carried out quickly.

Abstract: We report a case of pleomorphic sarcoma in a 42-year-old man with adult polycystic kidney disease [APKD]. Abdominal ultrasonography, computed tomography and MRI scans have revealed heterogenous bilateral renal cysts with a voluminous mass in the upper pole left kidney. Radical left nephrectomy with histopathologic and immunohistologic examination have confirmed the diagnosis of pleomorphic sarcoma. Sarcoma associated with adult polycystic kidney disease is extremely rare and does not have particular radiological or biological features when compared to primary renal sarcoma.

Abstract:
Langerhans cells histiocytosis (LCH) is a disease caused by the proliferation and abnormal accumulation of Langerhans cells in different tissues and organs. It is a rare disease that still hides many of its mysteries as to its etiology and pathophysiology. The cerebral localization remains exceptional and dominated by hypothalamic-pituitary axis involvement. We report a case of a 20-year-old patient followed for acquired central diabetes insipidus with Panhypopituitarism and multiple dermatological lesions, who recently had visual acuity decline with progressive cerebellar syndrome in a state of apyrexia. Brain MRI showed multiples scattered plaques and nodular lesions involving the periventricular white matter, the basal ganglia, cerebellum, brainstem and cervical medulla. The two diagnoses suggested in this clinical presentation sarcoidosis with pituitary localization and cerebral Langerhans cells histiocytosis. A skin biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of langherans cell histiocytosis.

Abstract: Clogging in the heat exchangers of the phosphoric acid concentration unit is a phenomenon which hinders the proper functioning of the installation. It results in the accumulation of undesirable solid deposits on the pipes and consequently a decrease of its performance. This deposit is mainly anhydrous or hemihydrate gypsum in addition to Na2SiF6. Phosphoric acid desulphation before its concentration step allows reducing this undesirable effect. Barium carbonate is used for the retention of sulphate ions using a simple experimental protocol which can easily be inserted into the phosphoric acid manufacturing. Four factors: quality of the phosphoric acid to be concentrated, amount of barium carbonate, temperature and time, were studied using design of experiment (DOE) methodology with two-level full factorial design strategy in order to assess their effects on desulphation. Only the first two factors have significant effects. Therefore, for effective sulphate removal, the validated statistical model (R2 = 99.96%) allows to predict the amount of barium carbonate to be used, depending on quality of the phosphoric acid to be concentrated and using the available temperature and time in the industrial process.

Abstract: In recent years, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) have gained variety industrial applications, because of simple structures, high efficiency and ease of maintenance. But these motors have a nonlinear mathematical model. To resolve this problem several studies have suggested the application of soft-computing technique. This paper presents vector control of PMSM fed by space vector modulation inverter using genetic algorithm (GA) controllers to improve speed, currents and the electric torque by significantly reducing their ripples, which offer an extra advantage of this study. The proposed method effectiveness has been verified by computer simulations using Matlab/Simulink . These results are compared with the ones obtained with a vector control using PI controllers for speed and current [1] and the second obtained with adaptive controller based speed estimation technique [2].

Abstract: The effect of 3-methyl 4-amino 1,2,4 triazole (MATA) on the corrosion behaviour of copper-nickel 70 - 30 (Monel) in NaCl 3% solution is investigated at 298 K by weight loss measurements, potentiodynamic polarisation and impedance spectroscopy (EIS′) methods. Preliminary screening of the inhibition efficiency (ECR) was carried out with using weight- loss measurements. Polarization measurements showed that the organic compound investigated is mixed type inhibitor (it acts on the cathodic and the cathodic reactions), inhibiting the corrosion of Monel by blocking the active sites of the metal surface. Changes in the impedance parameters charge transfer resistance (Rct) and double layer capacitance (Cdl) are related to adsorption of organic inhibitor of the metal surface, leading to the formation of protective film, which grows with increasing exposure time. Inhibition efficiencies obtained from cathodic Tafel plots, gravimetric and EIS methods are in good agreement. Results obtained shows that the (MATA) is good inhibitor for copper – nickel, and its efficiency reaches more than 95% at 60 ppm after 30 mn of immersion.
XRF Analysis of Heavy Metals for Surface Soil of Qarun Lake and Wadi El Rayan in Faiyum, Egypt  [PDF]

Abstract: The environmental pollution with some heavy metals for twenty four surface soil samples collected from Qarun Lake and Wadi El Rayan region in Faiyum, Egypt utilizing X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy was measured. The concentrations of 13 elements Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Zr, Rb, Y, Ba, Pb, Sr, Ga, V and Nb were determined. The elemental concentrations were compared with the normal values and other studies in different locations from the world. The correlation between elements appears that pollution inside the investigated lake and Wadi result from different sources of contamination present inside them. The results establish a database reference of radioactivity background levels around these regions.

Abstract: In the title compound, C19H21N3O3S, the C—SO2—NH—C torsion angle is 103.72 (11)°. The almost planar indazole ring [r.m.s. deviation = 0.0202 (14) ] is twisted away from the methylbenzene ring by 76.87 (7)°. The vinyl group is disordered over two orientations with site occupancies of 0.622 (10) and 0.378 (10). The S atom has a distorted tetrahedral geometry [maximum deviation: O—S—O = 119.18 (11)°]. An intramolecular C—H...O hydrogen bond occurs. In the crystal, two molecules are linked about a center of inversion by pairs of N—H...O hydrogen bonds, generating a dimer. C—H...π interactions are also observed.

Abstract: The molecule of the title heterocyclic compound, C16H17N3O3S, is bent at the S atom with an C—SO2—NH—C torsion angle of 80.17 (8)°. The phenyl substituent at the S atom is rotated out of the plane of the 1H-indazole ring [interplanar angle = 46.24 (8)°]. In the crystal, intermolecular N—H...N and N—H...O hydrogen bonds build up a ribbon developing parallel to the b-axis direction. C—H...O hydrogen bonds link these ribbons, forming a layer parallel to the bc plane.
