Personalization and User Profile Management

Abstract: Personalization and effective user profile management will be critical to meet the individual users’ needs and for achieving e-Inclusion and e-Accessibility. This paper outlines means to achieve the goal of the new ICT era where services and devices can be personalized by the users in order to meet their needs and preferences, in various situations. Behind every instance of personalization is a profile that stores the user preferences, context of use and other information that can be used to deliver a user experience tailored to their individual needs and preferences. Next Generation Networks (NGN) and the convergence between telephony and Internet services offer a wide range of new terminal and service definition possibilities, and a much wider range of application in society. This paper describes the personalization and profile management activities at European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Technical Committee Human Factors, together with relevant experimentations in recent European research projects.

Abstract: The modern telecommunication system is characterized by the rapid improvement of information and communication technologies, such as the improvement in the data rate, power consumption and Quality of Service (QoS). Based on this development, the next generation network (NGN) is shaped. The NGN is represented by a packet transport network demarcated functions and services. To provide transport functions in NGN, using Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology, there are two main problems, which are multipath routing and traffic distribution, which are what this paper works with. Accordingly, this paper proposes a solution to these two problems using optimization procedures to find the shortest path Dijkstra and Bellman-Ford, which is characterized by a high-speed-oriented selection of a single shortest path between the source and the destination, based on several selected criteria related to the optimal use of the network resources. Solving the information flow distribution problems in large number of nodes network applying salesman procedure or having NP-completeness, causes significant time delay, which means that the proposed solution is not suitable for real time applications. Accordingly, for real time applications, there is a need to move to other methods based on the use of several independent shortest paths.

Abstract: The “EOIP; Every Thing Over IP“ networks are widely replacing today’s different pillar networks in to the single converged network for Telephony(Any type of Access i.e. Mobile or Fixed Line) and data. Definitely new services will be expected in the NGN / EOIP such as broadcast media transmission and video on demand. But one major issues are always from past so many years are associated with Internet Protocol regarding voice transmission is Quality because one of the basic property involves with voice transmission is it requires real time transmission without this it will losses its charm[8]. A major consideration with the NGN is that it provides an equivalent voice service quality and resiliency as the current telephone network. The analysis carried out for this paper looked that without making any real time arrangement in data network in case of IP network will definitely detorate the Quality of service. So arrangement of Real time is mandatory for network quality and QOS of voice .By using the RTP& RTCP as a Application Layer Signaling Control Protocol in EOIP network will ensure the bare minimum packet loss(pay load) for telephony. The scope of this paper will prove that real time application i.e. voice transmission if it sent over non real time network with RTP/RTCP(Application Layer Signaling Control Protocol) the quality increases & provides an equivalent voice service quality and resiliency as the current telephone network.

Abstract: Managing network complexity, accommodating greater numbers of subscribers, improving coverage tosupport data services (e.g. email, video, and music downloads), keeping up to speed with fast-changingtechnology, and driving maximum value from existing networks – all while reducing CapEX and OpEXand ensuring Quality of Service (QoS) for the network and Quality of Experience (QoE) for the user.These are just some of the pressing business issues faced by mobileservice providers, summarized bythe demand to “achieve more, for less.” The ultimate goal of optimization techniques at the networkand application layer is to ensure End-user perceived QoS. The next generation networks (NGN), acomposite environment of proven telecommunications and Internet-oriented mechanisms have becomegenerally recognized as the telecommunications environment of the future. However, the nature of theNGN environment presents several complex issues regarding quality assurance that have not existed inthe legacy environments (e.g., multi-network, multi-vendor, and multi-operator IP-basedtelecommunications environment, distributed intelligence, third-party provisioning, fixed-wireless andmobile access, etc.). In this Research Paper, a service aware policy-based approach to NGN qualityassurance is presented, taking into account both perceptual quality of experience and technologydependantquality of service issues. The respective procedures, entities, mechanisms, and profiles arediscussed. The purpose of the presented approach is in research, development, and discussion ofpursuing the end-to-end controllability of the quality of the multimedia NGN-based communications inan environment that is best effort in its nature and promotes end user’s access agnosticism, serviceagility, and global mobility.
Evolution of the Converged NGN Service Platforms Towards Future Networks

Abstract: This article presents a comparison of main characteristics of the Next Generation Networks (NGN) and Future Generation Internet (FGI). The aim is to discuss and compare two approaches to Future Networks (FN) and services: the evolution of NGN, and the revolutionary approach of a new FGI. We present both frameworks from the services point of view as they are delivered to the end-user, as well as from the architectural point of view. We compare selected properties of both approaches to explain commonalities and differences. Their challenges are similar: managing the quality of experience, mobility, security, scalability and providing openness to applications. Based on this comparison, we evaluate possible areas for future convergence in the approach of the two architectures to the Future Network concept. Our analysis shows that despite their different backgrounds, the internet’s FGI and telco’s NGN are not that different after all. The convergence of the two approaches therefore seems the only logical way forward.

Abstract: In the evolving telecom networks such as next generation network (NGN), service design is open to the thirdparty. The feature logic will be kept private for business purpose. This makes it hard to detect feature interaction (FI) with the static method as usually, because the feature can not be specified with formal languages. To solve this problem, dynamic method can be employed. When implementing this kind of method, however, FIs caused by violating user’s intention are difficult to deal with, for violation of user intention is hard to express. To overcome this, a duplicate of Application Server called FRS (Feature-Re-presentation Server) is proposed to add into the network, where each feature can run individually and the running result is sent back as desirable result to compare with those obtained in the working environment. Interaction exists if they are inconsistent. FI detecting algorithm is given and two experiments are described in detail to show its practicability.
