Abstract:
The identification and recognition of patterns in the context of building is a necessary feedback to create intelligent buildings. In this context, the key is empowering the systems with learning elements to make decisions. The challenge is detected element to predict the human behavior in the building. Daily mean outdoor temperature is one of the variables with incidence in the human comfort due to the weather adaptation of the users. In this paper it analyzed the consumption in an office respect to the internal temperature and the daily mean temperature through cluster techniques. The cluster can be used as a forecasting of consumption.

Abstract: Las empresas del sector servicios, caracterizadas por la simultaneidad de la producción del servicio y su consumo, no disponen de un sistema de almacenamiento de su producto, por ser perecedero. La filosofía de la técnica de yield management es vender cada unidad de inventario al tipo de cliente adecuado, en el instante adecuado y al precio adecuado. Con estos criterios se asignan los clientes a las distintas categorías de inventario, de manera que se aproveche la demanda existente, con el objetivo de maximizar los ingresos o los beneficios. Mediante modelos matemáticos, en este trabajo se aplica y valida esta técnica en el caso de las empresas del sector hotelero espa ol. Algunos problemas con la utilización de la adaptación espa？ola del Inventario Clínico Multiaxial de Millon-II (MCMI-II) con fines diagnósticos

Abstract: one of the aims of millon clinical multiaxial inventory-ii (mcmi-ii) is to identify the best diagnosis for patients. in order to achieve this goal, the mcmi-ii suggests cutoff points in terms of base rate (br) scores that are supported by satisfactory results in a diagnostic validity study. the three editions of the spanish adaptation of the mcmi-ii show a number of inconsistencies concerning norms to translate raw scores into br -misprints, high discrepancies with american norms, change of norms among editions. there is also a suggestion for diagnostic br cutoff points which validity is not supported by any empirical research. this paper analyzes problems and implications stemming from this situation. some suggestions and recommendations are also made to overcome those problems -the most important of which is not to use the spanish adaptation of the mcmi-ii for diagnostic purposes until data to support diagnostic validity have been gathered.

Abstract: The aim of this article is to describe the characteristics of weblogs (usually shortened to blog, but occasionally spelled web log), the latest genre of internet communication that has attained widespread popularity (Herring et al. 2005). I will focus my attention on those weblogs which contain any kind of political message during election campaigns. The paper situates blogs with respect to the dominant forms of digital communication and as a powerful tool for developing future election campaigns in light of their low cost and the speed with which news can be published. The generic variables will be studied in detail, taking into account Swales' general theory of genre (1990) and genre theories applied to electronic communication (Yates and Orlikowski, 1992). Register variables (Halliday, 1989; Martin, 2001) will also be thoroughly studied. The results of this study show the characteristics of weblogs with regards to vocabulary, syntactic structures and the use of pronouns among others. The findings are based on an investigation of 20 politically-oriented weblogs, randomly selected during the 2004 American and 2005 British elections.

Angiopoietin-2 Serum Levels Improve Noninvasive Fibrosis Staging in Chronic Hepatitis C: A Fibrogenic-Angiogenic Link

Abstract: Aims Accurate liver fibrosis staging is crucial for the management of chronic hepatitis C (CHC). The invasiveness and cost burden of liver biopsy have driven the search for new noninvasive biomarkers of fibrosis. Based on the link between serum angiopoietin-1 and 2 levels and CHC progression, we aimed to determine the value of these angiogenic factors as noninvasive biomarkers of liver fibrosis. Methods Serum levels of angiopoietin-1 and -2 were measured by ELISA in 108 CHC patients who underwent pretreatment liver biopsy. The correlation between angiopoietins and clinical and demographic variables with liver fibrosis was analyzed by univariate regression. Significant factors were then subjected to multivariate analysis, from which we constructed a novel noninvasive liver fibrosis index (AngioScore), whose performance was validated in an independent series of 71 CHC patients. The accuracy of this model was compared with other documented fibrosis algorithms by De Long test. Results Angiopoietins correlated significantly with hepatic fibrosis; however, only angiopoietin-2 was retained in the final model, which also included age, platelets, AST, INR, and GGT. The model was validated and behaved considerably better than other fibrosis indices in discriminating all, significant, moderate and severe liver fibrosis (0.886, 0.920, 0.923). Using clinically relevant cutoffs, we classified CHC patients by discarding significant fibrosis and diagnosing moderate and severe fibrosis with greater accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. Conclusions Our novel noninvasive liver fibrosis model, based on serum angiopoietin-2 levels, outperforms other indices and should help substantially in managing CHC and monitoring long-term follow-up prognosis.

Abstract: Ionic polymer-metal composites (IPMCs) are especially interesting electroactive polymers because they show large a deformation in the presence of a very low driving voltage (around 1 - 2 V) and several applications have recently been proposed. Normally a humid environment is required for the best operation, although some IPMCs can operate in a dry environment, after proper encapsulation or if a solid electrolyte is used in the manufacturing process. However, such solutions usually lead to increasing mechanical stiffness and to a reduction of actuation capabilities. In this study we focus on the behaviour of non-encapsulated IPMCs as actuators in dry environments, in order to obtain relevant information for design tasks linked to the development of active devices based on this kind of smart material. The non-linear response obtained in the characterisation tests is especially well-suited to modelling these actuators with the help of artificial neural networks (ANNs). Once trained with the help of characterisation data, such neural networks prove to be a precise simulation tool for describing IPMC response in dry environments.
