Open Journal of Nursing (OJN) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojn.2014.410072
Abstract: Objective: To compare the learning of visually impaired individuals after the use of the educational game “Drugs: playing it clean”. Method: Quasi-experimental, comparative, before-after study. Results: The participants’ mean age in Brazil was lower than in Portugal; a significant difference in information acquisition was found between the pre and post-test for the low-complexity (Brazil p = 0.018 and Portugal p = 0.002), without a difference in the number of correct answers for the medium/high-complexity questions between the two countries (p = 0.655 and p = 0.0792); when comparing the number of correct answers before and after the game intervention, an increase was found in Brazil and Portugal, respectively (21.8% - 61.1%; 11.2% - 38.9%); a significant difference was found in the number of correct answers between the low and medium/high-complexity questions (p = 0.030). Conclusion: The educational game permits information access and can be used as a teaching-learning strategy.

Health (Health) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/health.2015.74049
Abstract: This is a qualitative study that aims to describe the opinion of nursing students on the use of an educational hypermedia on Peripheral Venipuncture. We interviewed 16 nursing students of a private university on second semester of 2014. The interviews allowed the identification of units of meaning and categorization by content analysis and led to four categories: influence of hypermedia on learning, educational technology as support to teaching classroom, contribution of hypermedia for professional practice and access difficulties. Hypermedia showed positive results as most scholars reported that the material helped in learning and generated autonomy and interactivity in the moment of studying. However some reported difficulties in access hypermedia related mainly to the server used. So hypermedia proved to be a valuable tool to use, since it favored the learning and aroused the interest and curiosity of students.

Health (Health) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/health.2015.75075
Abstract: The objective was to compare the socioeconomic profile and the repercussions for effects on the health of people with physical, hearing and visual of the main Ceará state associations in Brazil. Quantitative study carried out from March to August 2012 through a structured questionnaire with 120 subjects. Variables were: gender, age, education, family income and marital status. Studies are necessary to examine the effects of sociodemographic characteristics on health. The results indicate that the three deficiencies have different distributions in all age groups (p = 0.001), and auditory and visual obtained the highest percentage in the age group of 18 - 29 years (67.5% and 40%, respectively), while motor in the range of 30 - 49 (60%), if no association between level of education and disability was found (p = 0.553). Family income showed a statistically significant difference between disability (p = 0.044), with lower income in hearing loss (45%) and higher in the visual (42.5%). Studies have demonstrated that people with disabilities are not homogeneous. It is important to examine socioeconomic indicators, and individual needs and characteristics to plan effective action.

Health (Health) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/health.2016.814142
Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the evidence available in the literature about psychoactive substance use by persons with disabilities. We used integrative review of literature in SciELO, PubMed, SCOPUS, BDENF, and PsychINFO databases, with the descriptors: pessoas com deficiência; transtornos relacionados a uso de substancias; disabled persons; and substance-related disorders. Twelve articles were included in the sample. Data were analyzed and discussed descriptively. The studies’ results, with scientific evidence, were synthesized on two main themes: substance use by people with disabilities, and access of people with disabilities to treatment for substance-related disorders. The scientific evidences identified in studies reported disability as a risk factor for substance abuse, and also reported that disabled persons did not have access to treatment and rehabilitation services for substance abuse. Finally, the studies analyzed pointed to the need for scientific research on this topic.

B chromosomes in a population of Astyanax eigenmanniorum (Characiformes, Characidae) from the Araguari River Basin (Uberlandia, MG, Brazil)
Torres-Mariano, Alessandra Ribeiro;Morelli, Sandra;
Genetics and Molecular Biology , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-47572008000200015
Abstract: a cytogenetic study was conducted on an astyanax eigenmanniorum population from the caetano stream (18° 44' 56" s/ 048° 18' 39" w) - in uberlandia, mg, brazil - showing a modal diploid number of 48 chromosomes in the standard male and female karyotypes. however, in several specimens it was also possible to observe metaphases with one or two b chromosomes, increasing the diploid number to 49 or 50 chromosomes, respectively. the supernumerary chromosomes were totally heterochromatic and highlighted after c-banding. the silver-stained nucleolus organizing regions (ag-nors) were located in at least five chromosomes of the standard karyotype, thus characterizing a multiple nor system in the species. this is the first occurrence of an a. eigenmanniorum population with 2n = 48 chromosomes, bearing supernumerary chromosomes.
