Abstract: introduction: leishmaniasis is an infectious and parasitic zoonotic, non-contagious, vector-borne disease caused by protozoa of the genus leishmania. in brazil, the major vector of leishmania (leishmania) infantum chagasi (cunha & chagas, 1934) is lutzomyia longipalpis. barra do gar?as, state of mato grosso, was designated as a priority area by the brazilian ministry of health for american visceral leishmaniasis, and it is important to identify the vector species present in this municipality. our objective was to raise sandflies and study the influence of environmental variables on the vector density of lutzomyia longipalpis. methods: we performed entomological monitoring in 3 districts using centers for disease control and prevention (cdc) light traps and recorded human cases of american visceral leishmaniasis in the city. we calculated the relative frequency and richness of sandflies and applied a transfer function model to the vector density correlate with relative humidity. results: the sandfly population was composed of 2 genera and 27 species, totaling 8,097 individuals. monitoring identified lutzomyia longipalpis (44%), followed by lutzomyia lenti (18.9%), lutzomyia whitmani (13.9%), lutzomyia carmelinoi (9.1%), lutzomyia evandroi (5.1%), lutzomyia termitophila (3.3%), lutzomyia sordellii (1.9%), and 20 other species (<4%). the male:female ratio was 3.5:1. we observed high species diversity (dα = 6.65). lutzomyia longipalpis showed occurrence peaks during the rainy season; there was a temporal correlation with humidity, but not with frequency or temperature. conclusions: the presence of lutzomyia longipalpis in the urban area of barra do gar?as underscores the changing disease profile, which was previously restricted to the wild environment.

Abstract: purpose: to analyze the accuracy of sonohysterography for the evaluation of the uterine cavity in patients with an implantation failure, at the first attempt of an in vitro fertilization cycle. methods: in a prospective double blind study, the authors analyzed patients previously submitted to at least one embryo transfer, who presented implantation failures. the patients were submitted to a sonohysterographic examination followed by a diagnostic hysteroscopic examination, carried out by different professionals each of whom was not aware of the results of the other. the results were recorded and only interpreted after the end of the trial. sonohysterography was performed by the introduction of a urethral catheter 8 into the uterine cervix followed by infusion of physiological saline. the anechoic interface shown by the physiological saline can reveal abnormalities, like uterine polyps or submucosal myomas. hysteroscopy was performed with a karl storz equipment, 4 mm 30o rigid telescope, and infusion of physiological saline for uterine cavity distention. results: twenty-eight of the 33 originally selected patients for this study were analyzed. sonohysterography detected abnormalities in 8 patients, five with endometrial polyps (62.5%), two with endocervical polyps (25.0%), and one with submucosal myoma (12.5%). hysteroscopy (gold standard) detected abnormalities in 7 patients, two with endometrial polyps (28.6%), two with cervical polyps (28.6%) and one with submucosal myoma (14.2%). sonohysterography, when compared with diagnostic hysteroscopy, presented 71.4% sensibility, 85.7% specificity, 62.5% positive predictive value, and 90% negative predictive value of. conclusion: due to its low positive predictive value, the authors suggest confirmation of the sonohysterography result by diagnostic hysteroscopy. because sonohysterography presents a good level of specificity and a favorable low negative predictive value, the authors suggest that after a normal sonohysterogra

Arte, só na aula de arte? =Art, only in the art class?
Martins, Mirian Celeste
Educa??o , 2011,
Declanchar, tirar a tranca. The question asked by the title of the article is the theme of the conversation which the text wishes to share. It is an invitation to take pathways in encounters with art, with the word “esthetics”, with the potential of contemporary art, with the “look of the French Mission”, which insists on considering art as the expression of beauty. Along this pathway, the proposal of reading an incomplete image tries to provoke conceptual comings and goings in the perception of the very act of reading offered as an educational curatorship in the procedures of cultural mediation. Triggering, unlocking. Is not this the main task of cultural mediation: opening what was locked, freeing a look fixed on what is already known to see beyond? Is not this the meaning of esthetic education? Would not the territories of art of art & culture, instigating rhizomatic thinking be the esthetic nourishment to go beyond known works of art and the artists’ biographies? When broadening horizons, the reader has to provide the answer: After all, art only in the art class?

Ciência e Tecnologia de Alimentos , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-20612011000100009
Abstract: the objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of the daily consumption of ostrich meat (lliofemuralis internus) and bovine meat (psoas major) on the lipid metabolism in adult mice. the analyses of the centesimal composition of the meats and preparation of the diets were accomplished following the recommendations of the american institute of nutrition-ain-93. three groups of 150 day-old animals: group i (diet i, with casein), group ii (diet ii, with ostrich meat), and group iii (diet iii with bovine meat) were fed for 13 weeks with the respective diets and weight gain, food efficiency coefficient, total cholesterol, lipoprotein fractions, hepatic, transaminases and body fat percentage and hepatic fat content were evaluated. no difference (p < 0.05) it was found for weight gain and coefficients for feed efficiency among the groups. total cholesterol, hdl-cholesterol, ldl-cholesterol, relationship of total cholesterol/hdl-cholesterol, vldl, triglycerides and hepatic transaminases were also not different among the groups (p < 0.05). this research suggests that the consumption of ostrich meat or thin bovine meat on a daily basis does not raise concerns about weight gain, and an increase in the plasma concentrations of lipoprotein and levels of hepatic transaminase.

Tradu??o & Comunica??o : Revista Brasileira de Tradutores , 2012,
Abstract: In the present study, an analysis of Oscar Mendes’s translation of the theatre play A Woman with no Importance, by Oscar Wilde is carried out. Initially, the Victorian context was described, as well as a brief biography of the author, followed by his main works. Oscar Wilde’s translators for Brazilian Portuguese were mentioned and special emphasis was conferred to Oscar Mendes’s works, who is the translator of the selected comedy. Translation theory and drama translation concepts were presented and the play was analyzed in terms of its plot elements, and of the linguistic resources utilized, such as the maintenance of irony, paradoxes and word play in the author’s social criticism expression. The results indicate a possibly neutralizing translation project, with the option for archaisms as well as formal register. The fact that a comedy translation is devoid of vernacular language characteristics was highlighted. We argue that the translator’s time and context possibly contributed to his translation choices, and, as a consequence, they seem adequate. More informal language and lexis is recommended in the concepts of Readability and Performability. These concepts normally favor reading and the adaptation of the literary text to the theatre, particularly in the case of society comedies.
Effect of the intracerebroventricular administration of GR 113808, a selective 5-HT4 antagonist, on water intake during hyperosmolarity and hypovolemia
Castro L.,Varjo B.,Silva I.,Duque B.
Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research , 2001,
Abstract: We demonstrate here that acute third ventricle injections of GR 113808, a highly selective 5-HT4 antagonist, decrease water intake induced by a previous salt load while potentiating drinking elicited by hypovolemia induced by previous subcutaneous administration of polyethylene glycol in male Wistar rats (200 ± 20 g). At the dose of 160 nmol/rat, third ventricle injections of GR 113808 induced a significant reduction of water intake in salt-loaded animals after 120 min as compared to salt-loaded animals receiving third ventricle injections of saline (salt load + GR = 3.44 ± 0.41 ml, N = 12; salt load + saline = 5.74 ± 0.40 ml, N = 9). At the dose of 80 nmol/rat, GR 113808 significantly enhanced water intake in hypovolemic animals after 120 min as compared to hypovolemic animals receiving third ventricle injections of saline (hypovol + GR = 4.01 ± 0.27 ml, N = 8; hypovol + saline = 2.41 ± 0.23 ml, N = 12). We suggest that central 5-HT4 receptors may exert a positive drive on water intake due to hyperosmolarity and a negative input on drinking provoked by hypovolemia.
