Characteristics and Spatial Variability of Saline-Alkaline Soil Degradation in the Typical Yellow River Delta Area of Kenli County, China  [PDF]

Abstract: As an important area of reserve land resources, the Yellow River Delta is faced with the problem of soil salinization. Grasping the characteristics of soil salinity as well as its spatial variation patterns is an important foundation of prevention, control and utilization of saline soil. This study selected Kenli County of the Yellow River Delta, obtained soil salinity data through field survey and lab experiment, and used statistical, GIS interpolation and buffer analysis methods to analyze the characteristics of soil salinity and its spatial variation patterns. Our results showed that the general soil salinity in the study area was mainly moderate and there was a significant positive correlation between different soil layers of 0 - 15 cm, 15 - 30 cm and 30 - 45 cm and soil salinity increased with the increase of soil depth. The areas with high soil salinity in each soil layer mainly distributed in the east near the Bo Sea in the county, while the areas with lower soil salinity mainly distributed in the southwest, centre and the two sides of the Yellow River in the northeast. Soil salinity showed a trend of decrease with the increase in distance to the Bo Sea, while stretching from the Yellow River, it showed increase tendency with the increase in distance to the Yellow River. The order from high soil salinity to low of different vegetation types was naked land → suaeda glauca → tamarix → vervain → reed → couch grass → paddy → cotton → winter wheat → maize; the order for different geomorphic types was depression → slightly sloping ground → slow hillock → high flood land. This study preliminary delineated the characteristics of soil salinity as well as its spatial variation patterns in the study area, and provided scientific basis for soil resource sustainable utilization in the Yellow River Delta.

Abstract: Annealing at Ta=200℃ or so, the enhancement in the average tensile fracture strength of as-quenched (Fe0.99Mo0.01)78Si9B13 metallic glass increases about 7~8%. The origin of the annealing embrittlement at 244℃ in the metallic glass (Fe0.99 Mo0.01)78Si9B13 was revealed that due to the formation of nanoscale granular with bcc structure resulting in the stress localization.The temperature of annealing embrittlement was in agreement with the calculated value from Tbcc=0.637Tc (Tc is the crystallized temperature), based on micromechanism of crystallization of metallic glass.
Micromechanism of Crystallization in Multicomponent Metallic Glass

Abstract: A micromechanism in an atomic level of crystallization of transition metal-metalloid TM80M20 metallic glass is thermodynamically proposed by taking Bernal polyhedra as the starting structure of metaIlic glass. It is composed of two competitively processes: (i) densification process of atom cluster leads to the formation of the precursor in amorphous matrix, (ii) the growth of atom cluster leads to the decreasing packing density. The preferential precipitation sequence of metastable phase is bcc, bct. cpc (close-packed crystal, hcp or fcc structure). A metastable phase decomposition (Fe,Mo)23B6 (fcc)-Fe2B highly strained bct phase was observed during crystallization of (Fe0.99Mo0.01)78Si9B13 metallic glass, which is related to the occurrence of nanocrystalline.

Detection of treatment effects by covariate-adjusted expected shortfall

Abstract: The statistical tests that are commonly used for detecting mean or median treatment effects suffer from low power when the two distribution functions differ only in the upper (or lower) tail, as in the assessment of the Total Sharp Score (TSS) under different treatments for rheumatoid arthritis. In this article, we propose a more powerful test that detects treatment effects through the expected shortfalls. We show how the expected shortfall can be adjusted for covariates, and demonstrate that the proposed test can achieve a substantial sample size reduction over the conventional tests on the mean effects.

Abstract: Pure titanium dioxide (TiO2) particle materials were prepared by hydrolyzing titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4).The microstructures of these materials were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), accelerated surface area and porosimetry apparatus (BET), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The TiO2 materials obtained by calcinations under different temperatures distinctly revealed different microstructures in crystal structure type, surface area, pore size, pore volume and grain size. The relationship between the microstructure of the TiO2 materials and their electrorheological (ER) activity was investigated. Anatase titania particles have better ER performance than rutile titania particles. Amorphous TiO2 materials display higher ER activity than the crystalline titania materials. A large pore volume can be more advantageous in improving the ER effect of a particle material.
