Detection of bleeding patterns in WCE video using TV-Retinex  [PDF]

Abstract: The Retinex theory is used to deal with the removal of unfavorable illumination effects from images. In this paper, we present the Retinex theory for bleeding detection in wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE). This processing is quite appropriate to refresh old bleeding region and bleeding region in shadow. A novel total variation model (TV-Retinex) is proposed to solve the Retinex problem quickly; also a support vector machine is employed for classification. Experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.

Abstract: Purpose: To search evidence and determine whether PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy) or LASIK (Laser in Situ Keratomileusis) produce a better outcome of laser vision correction for patients with atypical topography of cornea. Setting: Electronic search of laser vision correction related studies on Cochrane Library, Medline and PubMed. Method: The search was conducted over Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed and Medline using the key words of refractive laser surgery, PRK, LASIK, Atypical topography, cornea ectasia and Keratoconus from 1980 to 2012. Boolean operators were used to search in electronic data bases of related studies. The combining words used here were And, OR. Result: The best corrected vision decreased for those eyes with atypical topography that were treated with either PRK or LASIK. However, in the comparison of the outcomes of vision and ectasia, PRK outperformed LASIK. Conclusion: There is possible risk of developing corneal ectasia in those patients who desire laser vision correction with atypical topographic cornea. PRK may be a safer procedure when compare to LASIK for those patients.

Abstract: The paper aims to construct a practical representational pattern, which is to uncover the way the discursive hegemony exists in the content of text. The representational pattern will be embarked upon level by level, mainly from the linguistic perspective such as field of discourse, transitivity, and the choice and meaning of words. For the reason of non-discursive elements having determined effects in the formation of discursive hegemony, the paper will also explore hegemony beyond the linguistic perspective by means of the concept \"discourse\" constructed in Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis model. In addition, a particular written text will be chosen to further testify the way of how hegemony is represented in a particular text or discourse.

Abstract:

When to enter the first learning alliance has strategic implications for firms’ long term success. However, research on timing of the first learning alliance is rare. As one of the few empirical studies on this issue, this paper aims to fill the gap by asking what the implications are when firms launch their first learning alliance at different points of time. Empirical results support the central proposition that if firms enter the first learning alliance too early or too late, they tend to rush into a second learning alliance in a short period of time. In the long run, they will lose the ability to innovate. Overall, this study has fundamental implications for organizational learning in particular and theory building in general.

Abstract: Ethnic difference of disease prevalence has attracted great attentions in recent years in China, but few researches have summarized analysis available on ethnic difference of disease prevalence in rural China. The PubMed Central, Wiley Inter science, Science direct, Biomed central, CNKI and Springer-link were searched to identify studies published between January 1984 and October 2014 on ethnic inequality of health status in rural China. Distinct ethnic differences of disease prevalence exist in rural China. Results across disciplines put different explanations on the ethnic differences from ethnicity, infant feeding, and inequality in maternal health services utilization angles. The ethnic inequality of health status in rural China can be reduced by policy makers to allocate more resources towards health service in ethnic rural China.

Abstract: The Cantor’s conclusion that “there is a one-one correspondence between the points on n-dimensional space and the points on the line” appears in the numerous current documents. By introducing a monotonic and continuous function, a one-one correspondence between two intervals is built; and by using parametric equations of the curve, a one-one correspondence from the points on the curve to the points on the line is established. Specially, the meanings of multivariate functions are given. By using a n-variable equation with a parameter, a correspondence from n-dimensional space area to a interval is built, so the wrong conclusion is completely denied. The paper enriches calculus and can reduce the teaching difficulty of real function in some degree. The expression of moving curve (surface) limit is given in the paper. More importantly, after the conclusion is corrected, it will be necessary and possible to re-establish the theory and the approach about multivariable differential calculus.
The Confinement Effect of Inert Materials on the Detonation of Insensitive High Explosives  [PDF]

Abstract: The paper aims to theoretically and numerically investigate the confinement effect of inert materials on the detonation of insensitive high explosives. An improved shock polar theory based on the Zeldovich-von Neumann-Döring model of explosive detonation is established and can fully categorize the confinement interactions between insensitive high explosive and inert materials into six types for the inert materials with smaller sonic velocities than the Chapman-Jouguet velocity of explosive detonation. To confirm the theoretical categorization and obtain the flow details, a second-order, cell-centered Lagrangian hydrodynamic method based on the characteristic theory of the two-dimensional first-order hyperbolic partial differential equations with Ignition-Growth chemistry reaction law is proposed and can exactly numerically simulate the confinement interactions. The numerical result confirms the theoretical categorization and can further merge six types of interaction styles into five types for the inert materials with smaller sonic velocity, moreover, the numerical method can give a new type of interaction style existing a precursor wave in the confining inert material with a larger sonic velocity than the Chapman-Jouguet velocity of explosive detonation, in which a shock polar theory is invalid. The numerical method can also give the effect of inert materials on the edge angles of detonation wave front.

Abstract: Airborne particles can trigger asthma when reaching certain threshold concentrations that vary by a few to several thousand times among different particles. The underlying mechanism for the variation is unknown. Here, based on common knowledge and observations, we pro-pose that the potency of an airborne particle in causing asthma correlates positively with the weight of the particle and inversely with the friction coefficient between the particle and the airway epithelium. This model may lead to new approaches for investigating the asthma phe-nomenon, and to practical applications for re-ducing the prevalence of asthma.
IDMA Based on Deterministic Interleavers  [PDF]

Abstract: Previously, the interleavers is generated randomly for users of Interleave Division Multiple Access (IDMA) systems. Therefore, transmitting the entire chip-level interleaver matrix or power interleaver generation is required, which either adds redundancy or increases delay. In this paper, we propose to use deterministic chip-level interleavers for multiple users of IDMA systems. These chip-level interleavers are modified from single-user symbol-level interleavers for turbo codes. The receiver can generate the chip-level interleavers for user k automatically without the redundancy of transmitting the entire interleaver matrix or the delay of generating power interleavers. Simulation results show that the proposed deterministic–interleaver-based IDMA performance is better than Gold-code-based CDMA in the multipath environment.
