On Paul Grice’s Treatment of Logic

Abstract: To demonstrate the principles of human thoughts, logic is regarded to, necessarily, be able to explain the meaning conveyed by language since language is the carrier of human thoughts. This study would explore Grice’s treatment of logic, highlight several problems of his theory and compare his approach with Adams’s probability logic.
The Scalar-Tensor Inflationary Cosmology

Abstract: In this paper the scalar-tensor theory of gravity is assumed to describe the evolution of the universe and the gravitational scalar $\phi$ is ascribed to play the role of inflaton. The theory is characterized by the specified coupling function $\omega(\phi)$ and the cosmological function $\lambda(\phi)$. The function $\lambda(\phi)$ is nearly constant for $0<\phi<0.1$ and $\lambda(1)=0$. The functions $\lambda(\phi)$ and $\omega(\phi)$ provide a double-well potential for the motion of $\phi(t)$. Inflation commences and ends naturally by the dynamics of the scalar field. The energy density of matter increases steadily during inflation. When the constant $\Gamma$ in the action is determined by the present matter density, the temperature at the end of inflation is of the order of $10^{14} GeV$ in no need of reheating. Furthermore, the gravitational scalar is just the cold dark matter that men seek for.
The Dark Energy in Scalar-tensor Cosmology

Abstract: Recent observations confirm that our universe is flat and consists of a dark energy component with negative pressure. This dark energy is responsible for the recent cosmic acceleration as well as determines the feature of future evolution of the universe. In this paper, we discuss the dark energy of the universe in the framework of scalar-tensor cosmology. In the very early universe, the gravitational scalar field $\phi$ plays the roll of the inflaton field and drives the universe to expand exponentially. In this period the field $\phi$ acts as a cosmological constant and dominates the energy budget, the equation of state (EoS) is $w=-1$. The universe exits from inflation gracefully and with no reheating. Afterwards, the field $\phi$ appears as a cold dark matter and continues to dominate the energy budget, the universe expands according to 2/3 power law, the EoS is $w=0$. Eventually, by the epoch of $z\sim O(1)$, the field $\phi$ contributes a significant component of dark energy with negative pressure and accellerates the late universe. In the future the universe will expand acceleratedly according to $a(t)\sim t^{1.31}$.
VMF-SNE: Embedding for Spherical Data

Abstract: T-SNE is a well-known approach to embedding high-dimensional data and has been widely used in data visualization. The basic assumption of t-SNE is that the data are non-constrained in the Euclidean space and the local proximity can be modelled by Gaussian distributions. This assumption does not hold for a wide range of data types in practical applications, for instance spherical data for which the local proximity is better modelled by the von Mises-Fisher (vMF) distribution instead of the Gaussian. This paper presents a vMF-SNE embedding algorithm to embed spherical data. An iterative process is derived to produce an efficient embedding. The results on a simulation data set demonstrated that vMF-SNE produces better embeddings than t-SNE for spherical data.
Toxic Effects of Nano-CuO, Micro-CuO and Cu2+ on Chlorella sp.  [PDF]

The 96 h acute toxic effects of nano-CuO (N-CuO), micro-CuO (M-CuO) and 2+ on Chlorella sp. were investigated in this paper. The results showed that toxicities decreased in an order of Cu2+>N-CuO>M-CuO. The 96 h EC50 of Cu2+ on Chlorella sp. was 1.06 mg /L, and of N-CuO it was 74.61 mg /L, while no pronounced toxicity was observed when the concentration of M-CuO was lower than 160 mg/L. Further experiments were carried out in order to study the toxicity mechanism of nano-CuO on Chlorella sp.. The results of Cu2+ release from N-CuO showed less than 0.2 mg/L Cu2+ were released, so the release of Cu2+ was not responsible for the toxicity. Further experiments showed N-CuO inhibited formation of Chlorophyll A. Content of Chlorophyll A in the control group was 4.75 mg/108 cells, while it declined to 2.89 mg/108 cells for 160 mg/L N-CuO after 96 h, which indicated that N-CuO could inhibit photosynthesis of Chlorella sp.. Moreover, N-CuO condensed with algal cells. It affected the activity of SOD and POD, indicating that N-CuO could cause oxidant stress to Chlorella sp.. These may be the toxicity mechanism.

Abstract: In this paper, by using the Laplace transform and the theory of toric arrangement, we show that discrete truncated power is a periodic piecewise polynomial on the shifted integral lattice cone. Based on the toric reduction method in the real field, we give a toric arrangement method to compute discrete truncated power.

In the knowledge economy, the innovation already became the motivation of foundation for organization growth, especially for E-commerce organizations. Business organizations should consider how their organizational innovations for all aspects of resource optimization to increase efficiency. The purpose of this study is to build some conceptual models in transformational leadership, innovation atmosphere and E-commerce organization innovation. Through the questionnaire survey procedure in some E-commerce corporations in Zhe Jiang, this research takes correlation analysis and regression analysis. We discovered: both transformational leadership and innovation atmosphere have the remarkable influence on E-commerce organization innovation. We also find the differences of effects and their interactions directly between the transformational leadership, innovation climate and the dimension degrees on E-commerce organization innovation.

Abstract: Euler-Lagrange (EL) model of voltage source PWM rectifier is set up based on its model in synchronous dq coordinates. Passivity based controller is designed on the basis of passivity and EL model of voltage source PWM rectifier. Three switching function are educed by passivity based controller. A switching function is only realized in engineering consequently. Voltage source PWM rectifier using passivity based controller has many advantages, such as simpler structure, low total harmonic distortion, and good disturbance rejection performance. Passivity based control law is proved feasible by simulink simulation.
Mechanism of the Anti-inflammatory Effect of Curcumin: PPAR- Activation

Abstract: Curcumin, the phytochemical component in turmeric, is used as a dietary spice and a topical ointment for the treatment of inflammation in India for centuries. Curcumin (diferuloylmethane) is relatively insoluble in water, but dissolves in acetone, dimethylsulphoxide, and ethanol. Commercial grade curcumin contains 10–20% curcuminoids, desmethoxycurcumin, and bisdesmethoxycurcumin and they are as effective as pure curcumin. Based on a number of clinical studies in carcinogenesis, a daily oral dose of 3.6 g curcumin has been efficacious for colorectal cancer and advocates its advancement into Phase II clinical studies. In addition to the anticancer effects, curcumin has been effective against a variety of disease conditions in both in vitro and in vivo preclinical studies. The present review highlights the importance of curcumin as an anti-inflammatory agent and suggests that the beneficial effect of curcumin is mediated by the upregulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) activation.
