Causal Relationship among Education Expenditure, Health Expenditure and GDP: A Case Study for Bangladesh

Abstract: This paper investigated the causal relationship among health expenditure, education expenditure and GDP for Bangladesh. First we present the extension form of the augmented Solow Growth model by including education expenditure and health expenditure as education and health capital. In our empirical study we used time series data for the period 1990 to 2009. From the ECM methodology we found that an including of health and education expenditure as an investment in health and education capital improve the significance of the coefficient of human and physical capital in the growth model for Bangladesh. Secondly, we find out the causal relationship among these variables by Var Granger Causality test. From the empirical study we found the existence of bidirectional causality from education expenditure to GDP and also from education expenditure to health expenditure and only unidirectional causality is obtained from health expenditure to GDP. This paper will provide a significant policy guideline to the policy maker.

Currently, communication system requires multiband small antennas for 5G mobile applications. Driven this motivation, this paper proposes a multiband patch antenna for Wi-Fi, WiMAX and 5G applications. The proposed antenna can effectively operate at 2.4 GHz as Wi-Fi, 7.8 GHz as WiMAX and 33.5 GHz as 5G communication purposes. The proposed antenna arrays have given directional radiation patterns, very small voltage standing wave ratio, high gain (VSWR) and directivity for each aforementioned systems operating frequency. This antenna is made for multiband purpose which can be effective for not only Wi-Fi and WiMAX but also 5G applications.
Time Series Models for Growth of Urban Population in SAARC Countries

Abstract: The purpose of our present study is to strike out suitable models to explain the growth pattern and to forecast for urban population in SAARC countries. Using the data from UNPD for the years 1950 to 2000 in five years interval, we fitted both exponential and ARMA models. We found the superiority of ARMA models over exponential models to explain the time trend behavior of the urban population as a percentage of total population and to forecast up to the year 2025. We also found that urbanization is faster in Bangladesh than any other SAARC countries.
Computational Procedures for a Class of GI/D/k Systems in Discrete Time

Abstract: A class of discrete time GI/D/ systems is considered for which the interarrival times have finite support and customers are served in first-in first-out (FIFO) order. The system is formulated as a single server queue with new general independent interarrival times and constant service duration by assuming cyclic assignment of customers to the identical servers. Then the queue length is set up as a quasi-birth-death (QBD) type Markov chain. It is shown that this transformed GI/D/1 system has special structures which make the computation of the matrix R simple and efficient, thereby reducing the number of multiplications in each iteration significantly. As a result we were able to keep the computation time very low. Moreover, use of the resulting structural properties makes the computation of the distribution of queue length of the transformed system efficient. The computation of the distribution of waiting time is also shown to be simple by exploiting the special structures.

Abstract: Detection of liquid mixture of different volume ratio is very important in industrial purposes. The paper reports a sensing mechanism of binary liquid mixture for different volume fraction, based on the measurement of refractive index of the mixture. Here, a highly sensitive liquid filled core Photonic Crystal Fiber structure has been proposed to detect liquid mixture solution. Numerical investigation of the proposed structure is carried out by employing full vectorial Finite Element Method (FEM).

Abstract: Dhaka is a megacity in terms of population. Overcrowding, poverty, informal settlement, unequal distribution of space, lack of proper planning and city development strategies, the city is posing serious threat to face the 21st century challenges. There is no alternative way to improve our cities without a collective city vision and a strategic action plan aimed at policy and institutional reforms to survive in an increasingly competitive world.This paper focuses on integrated development strategies. Concepts related to content of strategies and plans, participative planning processes and integrative planning are analyzed. The role of transportation planning is used an example to discussed how technical integration together with financial and institutional integration could be used as a tool to gain the potential benefits of an integration approach. Overall the paper seeks to show the importance of using concepts to help develop strategies for Dhaka city beyond the boundaries of administrative, financial, institutional and disciplinary divides.
Antioxidant and Antidiarrhoeal Potentiality of Diospyros blancoi

Abstract: Phytochemical analysis of the MeOH extract of leaves of Diospyros blancoi (Ebenaceae) indicated the presence of Reducing Sugar, Gum, Tannin, Alkaloid and Flavonoid types of compounds. The pharmacological interest of these compounds prompted us to check its antidiarrhoeal and anti-oxidant activities. Antioxidant potential was evaluated by using 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging assay. The extract showed significant (p<0.001) antioxidant activity in a dose-dependent manner with the IC50 value of 15.06±0.49 μg mL-1, compared to the IC50 value of the reference standard ascorbic acid which was 8.11±0.21 μg mL-1 suggested its potent anti-oxidant activity. The anti-diarrhoeal activity was investigated on the castor oil-induced mice models. The doses displayed significant reduction in faecal output of about 24.49 and 44.89%, respectively at 250 and 500 mg kg-1, compared to the reference standard loperamide which was 59.18% μg mL-1. The obtained results provide a support for the use of this plant in traditional medicine as an antidiarrhoeal remedy.
A Discrete Event Barber Shop Simulation

Abstract: A simulation based project is designed which can be practically implemented in a workspace (in this case, a barber shop). The design algorithm provides the user different time varying features such as number of people arrival, number of people being served, number of people waiting at the queue etc depending upon input criteria and system capability. The project is actually helpful for a modern barber shop in which a close inspection is needed. The owner or the manager of the shop can easily have a thorough but precise idea about the performance of the shop. At the same time he/she can easily decide to modify the arrangement and capability of the shop.

Abstract: Specific investigation on the time (h) required for catfish, Clarias batrachus, embryos to reach various early developmental stages were carried out under different experimental conditions. Five hundred fertilized eggs were incubated in tray (28oC–30.5oC) with continuous water flow and aeration (T1), with only continuous water flow (T2) or aeration (T3) and without continuous water flow and aeration (T4). Fertilized embryos hatched successfully in all treatments except for T4. Time requirements for 2-cell, 4-cell, 8-cell, morula, germinal ring, yolk-plug, twisting movement, prehatching and hatching were comparable for all treatments. However, developmental speed was ceased from yolk-plug stage for T4. Time requirements for two-cell, four-cell, eight-cell, morula, germinal ring, yolk-plug, twisting movement, and hatching were 0.43, 0.48, 0.53, 3.52, 6.07, 8.50, 15.04, 20.08, and 21.40 h, respectively for T1; 0.44, 0.47, 0.51, 3.49, 6.10, 8.51, 15.13, 20.19, and 21.56 h, respectively for T2; 0.50, 0.53, 0.59, 3.52, 6.13, 8.53, 15.11, 20.18, and 22.13 h, respectively for T3. Fertilized eggs of C. batrachus incubated in tray with only aeration (T3) is sufficient for successful hatching and could be cost-effective for hatchery operation.
