Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de S?o Paulo , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0036-46652011000100004
Abstract: the triatominae (hemiptera:reduviidae) contains the principal and potential chagas disease vectors present in mexico, central america and south america. triatoma flavida and t. bruneri are cuban species. these species are closely related according to morphology and were considered synonyms until 1981, when they were separated on the grounds of external characters of the body and the morphology of male genitalia. the present study seeks to analyze genetic polymorphism of t. flavida and t. bruneri populations using rapd techniques, and to assess the genetic relationship between these species. ten random primers were used to evaluate the genetic variability among species using rapd-pcr. the genetic flow among them was calculated. the dendrogram based on calculated jaccard distances showed two clearly distinguishable clusters which coincided with the studied species. within each species, moderate genetic differentiation (fst 0.05-0.15) and migration rates (n > 1) were found among populations, that reveal gene flow and genetic homogeneity. between species, the fst value showed a high genetic differentiation and the migration rate was insufficient to maintain genetic homogeneity, and confirmed the absence of gene flow between them. our results confirm the genetic variability among t. flavida and t. bruneri species.
Hocevar,Mayda;
Frónesis , 2005,
Abstract: among the contemporary versions of ius-naturalism, john finnis? version occupies an important position. it has certain peculiarities that have lead some authors to sustain that his thought is ius-naturalism and is not contrary to judicial positivism. as proof of this, it is important to point out the insistence of finnis in defining and basing what he calls strict judicial duty as something distinct from the moral duty of obeying the law. but this distinction is problematical in the manner in which he attempts to demonstrate it in his article.
Photon-Photon and Electron-Photon Colliders with Energies Below a TeV
Mayda M. Velasco
Physics , 2001,
Abstract: We investigate the potential for detecting and studying Higgs bosons in $\gamma\gamma$ and $e\gamma$ collisions at future linear colliders with energies below a TeV. Our study incorporates realistic $\gamma\gamma$ spectra based on available laser technology, and NLC and CLIC acceleration techniques. Results include detector simulations. We study the cases of: a) a SM-like Higgs boson based on a devoted low energy machine with $\sqrt{s_{ee}}\le 200$ GeV; b) the heavy MSSM Higgs bosons; and c) charged Higgs bosons in $e\gamma$ collisions.

Rivas,Mayda; Franco-Trecu,Valentina;
Mastozoolog?-a neotropical , 2012,
Abstract: this communication reports a case of kidnapping and adoption of a pup by a south american fur seal female (arctocephalus australis) while she was in labor, rejecting her own pup when it was born. the kidnapped pup was taken from its mother, who tried unsuccessfully to retrieve it. in the following month, the pup was observed nursing both from its mother and the adoptive female. this episode provides new insights into the high maternal sensitivity during parturition and the short period of maternal selectivity that can be established even before birth in this species.

Revista Archivo M??dico de Camag??ey , 2008,
Abstract: background: bronchopulmonary diseases are very common, specially infections and suppurations that frequently let permanent sequelae or cause the death of the patient. objective: to describe the common pattern and the anatomic variants of bronchopulmonary segmentation in the adult man, when taking its number and origin into account. method: a descriptive observational study was carried out with a sample of 100 (25%) bronchopulmonary blocks in a universe constituted by 400 dead persons to the ones a necropsy was performed in the legal-medicine department at "amalia simoni" provincial hospital, of camagüey, from april 2004 to march 2006. results: the great part of pieces presented the distribution of bronchopulmonary segmentation that correspond with the common pattern. conclusions: a predominance of the variants of number in relation to the ones belonging to origin existed.
CASTEX,MAYDA; FACHADO,ALBERTO; FONTE,LUIS;
Revista Cubana de Medicina Tropical , 1997,
Abstract: the utilization of a coagglutination technique for the identification of a human source for feeding mosquitoes is described. the dilution of ingested blood samples in filter paper was performed in 2 ml of a sodium chloride solution at 0.85 %. it was used a suspension of sensibilized staphylococcus aureus with rabbit's serum, human plasmatic anti-proteins, and human anti-igg rabbit's serum discriminated well between human and non human blood. no agglutination was observed with the negative control. this technique proved to be sensitive to identify 100 % of the human blood samples taken to the paper 24 hours after the mosquitoes completed their feeding at a temperature of 26 to 28 °c. among mosquitoes fed and collected in the fields the test had a satisfactory result. therefore, it may be used in routine work in the fields. the results showed the sensitivity and specificity of this method for identifying human blood ingested by mosquitoses.
Attitudes Towards Smoking and Frequency of Smoking Among Students of Duzce Medical School
Atilla Senih Mayda,Nihan Tufan,Selen Bastas
TAF Preventive Medicine Bulletin , 2007,
Abstract: In this cross-sectional study; to determine smoking prevalence in the students of Duzce Medical School and to learn attitudes of students towards smoking was aimed and questionnaires applied under supervision to 230 students (96.0%) who accepted to participated to the study of all 242 students of the Medical School in the term of 2005-2006. The prevalence of smoking was found 31.3%. Smoking prevalence was significantly higher in the students who have smokers among their friends, the students who had been graduated from Science High School, the students who deal with an art such as painting, music, theatre and the students who have lived alone. Almost all the students declined that they had supported the legal regulations and sanctions against smoking and 43.0 % of the students thought that to persuade community not to smoke has been the mission of doctors. The reasons to begin to smoke were declined as; the affects of friends, (54.4%), affectation (28.0%), curiosity (28.8%) and being alone (20.6%). Of the students who have been smoking currently 42 students (65.6%) have wanted to quit smoking, 20 (31.3%) haven t want to quit and 2 (%3.1) has been undecided. Of smokers, 47 students (74.6%) had been tried to quit smoking. The students of Medical School have known that smoking was harmful to health. Because friends affects are important to begin smoking; campaigns to quit smoking has to be planned towards friend groups not to individuals. Considering that behaviors of physicians have effected to community physicians have to be ensured to quit smoking and not to begin smoking with campaigns against smoking. It s important to support students who want to quit smoking. [TAF Prev Med Bull. 2007; 6(5): 364-370]
MAYDA CASTEX,ALBERTO FACHADO,LUIS FONTE
