Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02762007005000118
Abstract: triatoma mexicana was described by herrich-schaeffer in 1848. in 1940, a male specimen was found in hidalgo. in 1970, this species was recorded in the state of queretaro. later, it was registered in guanajuato and san luis potosi. in the present paper we performed an investigation in 545 dwellings from three counties in the state of guanajuato, mexico, from march 2003 to may 2004. the search and capture of triatomines were seasonally performed indoors and outdoors. entomological indexes were calculated. the risk and no risk relations between triatomine presence and housing construction materials were analyzed. fourteen triatomines were collected indoors and 151 outdoors. the vectors were collected in houses built with either risky and non-risky materials. adults go indoors but do not settle there, hence, no relationship was found between the building materials and infestation of houses. conventional interventions like house improvement or insecticide spraying are not efficient for the control of t. mexicana, because its developmental cycle is accomplished outdoors in the area surrounding the houses.
Escrutinio público de propuestas de candidatos durante la campa?a presidencial de 2006
López, Alejandro;Cárdenas, Enrique;
Política y gobierno , 2009,
Abstract: 2006 was the first election for president in mexico that took place under an administration that was not controlled by the pri, and these elections were characterized by a hard-fought competition and the strong presence of the candidates in mass media. three citizens' organizations, dialogues for mexico, citizens' magnifying glass, and evaluate and decide stood out because they tried to limit the tendency of the candidates and parties to exaggerate their electoral promises. the proposed initiatives of these groups included first, reducing the negative consequences of sloppy party platforms (improvisation); and second, offering information that would promote a more reasoned decision on the part of the voter by following through on the electoral promises so that they could answer questions such as, "are these solid proposals? did they improve?" the objective of this project is to allow citizens and political actors to evaluate the performance of elected officials in the next elections. because of this experience and by examining the initiatives to be able to influence general policies, these citizen-based groups were able to present suggestions for civic organizations to monitor more effectively representative institutions in mexico.

Castro, Manuel Cárdenas;López, Roberto Rodríguez;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822007000300012
Abstract: this paper presents a study of the social representations on the anti-globalization movement (agm) elaborated from a sample of spanish workers. a method of free association of words as stimuli and an image of movement survey (that takes the form of a semantic differential) were used for the analysis of these representations. the results obtained by free association of words were analyzed by multivariated methods (hierarchical cluster analysis, multidimensional scaling and correspondences analysis). the results on the image survey were summarized in seven principal factors. the averages of these factors were compared according to the criterion of political self-categorization. the principal effect observed was a rejection, from a part of the subjects of the sample, in using the cultural categories that in other studies appeared as the most pertinent fo the elaboration of social representations about the anti-globalization movement (amg).

Revista Facultad de Ciencias Económicas: Investigación y Reflexión , 2009,
Abstract: one of the main problems of colombia since the end of xxth century has been illegal drug trafficking of cocaine to the united states and the rest of the world. this has led to devastating consequences for colombian population, such as maintenance of armed conflict and forced displacement. the coca eradication has been made through the implementation of different methods, but unfortunately, none of them has been totally effective. at this point, it is essential to outline the importance of colombian supply over foreign demand of cocaine, considering that, in order to provide a solution from the inside of the country, the determinants which affect supply of cocaine to the united states must be clear. therefore, the objective of this document is to study and analyze the characteristics of cocaine market between colombia and the united states due to its importance in social, economic and environmental issues in colombia.

Resiliencia en la vejez
Cárdenas-Jiménez,Andrea; López-Díaz,Alba L;
Revista de Salud Pública , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0124-00642011000300014
Abstract: the aim of this study was to characterise and analyse articles published on resilience and old-age from 1990-2006. after a systematic search of five databases (academic search premier-ebsco host, medline, psyc articles, ovid and science direct) 33 pieces of literature were included in the analysis. the selected articles had 31 different definitions of resilience, from eight disciplines, mainly health-related fields. it was also found that the research studied the association of resilience with individual (68 variables) and social/environmental factors (17 variables); the most frequent were age and health self-perception. cultural and religious values were of special interest amongst the latter variables. the literature review demonstrated that resilience in old age is a topic having increasing research interest; this has been linked to various individual, social and cultural factors. however, this is a rapidly developing area that requires that a unified definition be established and that a theoretical and intervention model be created.
