Abstract: several biological parameters related to the triatoma mexicana life-cycle were evaluated in this study. three cohorts were maintained under different combinations of temperature and relative humidity (rh): 25oc/50% rh; 25oc/75% rh; and 30oc/75% rh. observed hatching rates varied from 49-57.5% whereas the average time of hatching varied from 19.5-22.7 days. in the three cohorts studied, the mean time-lapse between presentation of the blood meal and the beginning of feeding was less than 5 min in all instars; the mean feeding time was longer than 10 min in all the instars; the post-feed defecation delay was over 10 min in all the instars. less than 50% of nymphs in each cohort completed the cycle and the average time from 1st instar nymph to adult was more than 255 days for the three cohorts. the number of blood meals before molt at each nymphal instar varied from 1-9. our results appear to indicate a lack of influence of temperature and rh on the biological parameters of t. mexicana that were studied, which could reflect the adaptation capacity of this species. we also conclude that t. mexicana can not be considered an effective transmitter of trypanosoma cruzi to human populations in areas where this species is currently present.
Exclusión social y muerte súbita cardiaca
Ochoa Montes,Luis Alberto;
Revista Cubana de Salud Pública , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0864-34662010000300012
Abstract: in the so-called first world countries, 350 000 to 400 000 people die suddenly from heart and blood vessel diseases, according to official data. this means 1000 sudden deaths every day. the health situation in 31 out of the 35 countries in the american continent, where heart diseases are the first cause of death, is not very far from the situation in the united states and the western nations since this is generally a growing problem. there are some medical factors that should be taken into account when analyzing the behaviour of this phenomenon in each country, but there are also political factors that must be approached to accomplish favourable results in the reduction of morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases and of sudden cardiac mortality. the linking of social exclusion and cardiovascular disease is deeply studied. the answer to the question of whether the social exclusion presently plays a determining role in the high incidence of sudden cardiac death or not can only be found in the economic, political and social system existing in the nations. the globalization of the medical care opportunities by including rather than excluding those who have a little or nothing at all - giving everybody access to the new technologies in the medical field - is the means to face the challenge of the rise of cardiovascular pandemic in the 21st century, and hence, of the sudden death.

Omar Alfonso Ochoa Maldonado
Contexto , 2011,
TOWARDS A PARALLEL SYSTEM FOR DEMOGRAPHIC ZONIFICATION BASED ON COMPLEX NETWORKS

Journal of applied research and technology , 2009,
Abstract: This paper presents a novel method for the zone design problem that is based on a popular technique in the field of complexnetworks research: betweenness centrality. We use a parallel version of a community detection algorithm that outputs thegraph partitioning that maximizes the so‐called modularity metric. The method is put at the centre of an effort to build an opensource interactive high performance computing platform to assist researchers working with population data.

Acta Colombiana de Psicología , 2006,
Abstract: the implementation of information and communication technologies (ict) in higher education contexts has become commonplace nowadays. nevertheless, the question remains as to what extend technology has had a real impact on teaching and learning processes. in general, quantitative evaluation methods have been proposed which concentrate on the use of standardized tests that provide relevant but limited information in terms of evaluating the use of ict and managing the development of technologysupported programs. this research proposes a qualitative approach which aims to identify how acquainted the teaching staff are with ict and how they use it and transform it in their courses. five university teachers were interviewed, and their courses observed throughout a semester. their performances were ranked according to ict appropriation levels, ranging from lesser to greater complexity, taking into account what they said and did in their courses. results showed that on the basic levels of appropriation the teachers used the ict as a tool that facilitated the storage, transmission and organization of their course material, and no substantial difference was found between courses of compulsory attendance and ictsupported courses. on the advanced levels of appropriation, they used the ict as a tool which permitted a multiplicity of knowledge representations, as well as simulation and problem solving. these teachers established a clear difference between a compulsory attendance course and one supported by ict, inasmuch as they utilize virtual learning situations which would be impossible to use without the intervention of technology. the intention is to continue advancing along this line with approaches that allow us to describe the actual use that teachers are making of ict in their courses

Evolving Optimization to Improve Diorama’s Representation using a Mosaic Image
Simonné Suarent,Alberto Ochoa,S. J?ns,Fernando Montes
Journal of Computers , 2009, DOI: 10.4304/jcp.4.8.734-737
Abstract: Evolving Optimization is a generic term used to make reference to the solution of planned and implemented computational problems with base in models of an evolutionary process. Most of the bioinspired algorithms, propose biological paradigms, and the concepts of natural selection, mutation, migration and reproduction or using other techniques are with a novel paradigm as Bacterial Foraging [8], which is based on only a small part in biology, and focus more on a branch of which this is biotechnology. Nevertheless, other paradigms exist that can be adopted in the creation of evolutionary algorithms. Many environment problems involve not structured knowledge, which can be considered from the perspective of cultural paradigms; the cultural paradigms offer an ample range of categorized models that do not know the possible solutions to the problem - a situation common in the real world. The intention of the present research is to apply the computational properties of the cultural technology; in this case of corroborating of them by means of Social Data Mining to propose the solution to a specific problem, adapted from the Literature about Social Modelling. Combined with this, we analyzed the location of a society represented with its starship with respect to the social and cultural similarity of its neighbors, in a form of popular representation denominated Diorama. The set of study conformed by 95 societies (each society with a starship documented in [3]) allowed to analyze the social characteristics without affecting the extreme total of the sense of the Mosaic Image which represents the Diorama (what this it represents of all of them), and gave the opportunity us to emulate the distances that separate to each one of them and as these are grouped with respect to cluster that they belong. Demonstrating that ideological, social and cultural characteristic exist whose approximate them and as well they move away them. By means of this information it is possible to predict the best visualization of a Mosaic Image which represent a diorama, redistributing to the starships that conform it, this paper tries to explain this representation of social behavior.
