Abstract: in the present work we present hypotheses that open a reflection on the paradigm of stability in the studies on marriage; at the time it exposes the empiric evidence that supports the discussion and cardes a probabilistic and indeterministic conception in the study of populations. we analyze the possible association between the marital state of parents and children, however not only as for the divorced status, but also the de facto marriage and married statuses, since the two first are given the character of unstable, whilst the last is recognized as stable.

Abstract: En el presente trabajo se presentan hipótesis que abren la refl exión sobre el paradigma de la estabilidad en los estudios sobre nupcialidad; al tiempo de exponer la evidencia empírica que sustenta la discusión y conlleva una concepción probabilística e indeterminista en el estudio de las poblaciones. Se analiza la posible asociación entre estado conyugal de padres e hijos pero no únicamente en lo tocante al estado divorciado, sino también en cuanto a los estados unido de hecho y casado, puesto que a los dos primeros se les adjudica el carácter de inestables mientras que al último se le imprime el carácter de estable.
Near Ground Wind Simulations by a Meso-Scale Atmospherical Model for the Extremely Large Telescopes Site Selection

Abstract: Las intensidades del viento que se obtienen de los modelos de circulación general de los centros meteorológicos (como el ECMWF) no son confiables para la selección de un sitio óptimo para grandes telescopios, debido a su baja resolución horizontal (2_ 2:5). En este trabajo probamos la capacidad de un modelo no hidrostático de escala media (Meso-Nh) con una resolución horizontal de l km para reconstruir la intensidad del viento cerca del suelo (NGW) medida en Paranal (Chile) y Maidanak (Uzbekistan), y para distinguir entre ambos. Las mediciones muestran diferencias típicas entre las velocidades del viento de 4 { 5 m/s. En este trabajo, se comparan mediciones del NGW hechas durante 20 { 25 noches en cada sitio, y se analizan estadísticamente. Nuestra conclusión es que el modelo Meso-Nh puede discriminar entre ambos sitios. Por el contrario, los modelos de circulación general no son capaces de hacerlo. Discutimos también las limitaciones de este estudio, y sugerimos algunos procedimientos para superarlos.
Optical turbulence forecast: toward a new era of ground-based astronomy

Abstract: The simulation of the optical turbulence (OT) for astronomical applications obtained with non-hydrostatic atmospherical models at meso-scale presents, with respect to measurements, some advantages. The future of the ground-based astronomy relies upon the potentialities and feasibility of the ELTs. Our ability in knowing, controlling and 'managing' the effects of the turbulence on such a new generation telescopes and facilities are determinant to assure their competitiveness with respect to the space astronomy. In the past several studies have been carried out proving the feasibility of the simulation of realistic Cn2 profiles above astronomical sites. The European Community (FP6 Program) decided recently to fund a Project aiming, from one side, to prove the feasibility of the OT forecasts and the ability of meso-scale models in discriminating astronomical sites from optical turbulence point of view and, from the other side, to boost the development of this discipline at the borderline between the astrophysics and the meteorology. In this contribution I will present the scientific and technological goals of this project, the challenges for the ground-based astronomy that are related to the success of such a project and the international synergies that have been joint to optimize the results.

Juxtaposition of heterochromatic and euchromatic regions by chromosomal translocation mediates a heterochromatic long-range position effect associated with a severe neurological phenotype

Abstract: FISH mapped the translocation breakpoints (bkps) to 15p11.2 within satellite III and the 16q12.1 euchromatic band within the ITFG1 gene. The expression of the genes located on both sides of the translocation were tested by means of real-time PCR and three, all located on der(16), were found to be variously perturbed: the euchromatic gene NETO2/BTCL2 was silenced, whereas VPS35 and SHCBP1, located within the major heterochromatic block of chromosome 16q11.2, were over-expressed. Pyrosequencing and chromatin immunoprecipitation of NETO2/BTCL2 and VPS35 confirmed the expression findings. Interphase FISH analysis showed that der(16) localised to regions occupied by the beta satellite heterochromatic blocks more frequently than der(15).To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a heterochromatic position effect in humans caused by the juxtaposition of euchromatin/heterochromatin as a result of chromosomal rearrangement. The overall results are fully in keeping with the observations in Drosophila and suggest the occurrence of a human heterochromatin position effect associated with the nuclear repositioning of the der(16) and its causative role in the patient's syndromic phenotype.Patients with syndromic clinical phenotypes include an interesting subset of carriers of de novo balanced chromosomal rearrangements with no apparent loss or gain of genetic material. These abnormalities can be explained by the loss of function of a dose-sensitive gene disrupted by one rearrangement breakpoint [1-3]. The breakpoints of the balanced chromosomal rearrangements associated with a clinical phenotype are often molecularly mapped in an attempt to identify the disease-causing genes affected by the abnormality. Although the rearrangements may lead to the direct disruption of one or two genes, this is not always the case.
