Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-35982006000600022
Abstract: the effect of different methionine + cystine (met+cis):total lysine (lis) ratios on performance and egg quality for semi-heavily laying hens was evaluated. one hundred and twenty lohmann brown hens with 44 weeks old were allotted to a completely randomized design with with five replicates and four treatments, as follows: t1= 0.76 met+cys:total lys ratio or 0.70% of met+cys and 0.92% of total lys; t2 = 0.83 met+cys: total lis ratio or 0.71% of met+cys and 0.85% of total lys; t3 = 0.85 met+cys: total lys ratio or 0.64% of met+cys and 0.75% of total lys; t4 = 0.86 met+cys: total lys ratio or 0.70% of met+cys and 0.81% of total lys. the performance variables and economical analysis were evaluated from 44 to 56 weeks old. at the end of trial, ten eggs per treatment were collected ad stored during 28 days for evaluation of internal/external egg quality before and after storage. with the exception of egg mass, no treatment effect on feed intake, egg production, egg weight and egg:mass ratio and egg:dozen ratio and egg shell specific quality was observed. the met+cys:lys ratio of 0.76 or the estimate of 0.70% of total met+cys and 0.92% of total lys can be recommended for the feeding of semiheavily laying hens. it was concluded that the storage affect internal egg quality.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the genetic progress obtained in interpopulation hybrids with the reciprocal recurrent selection. during the 2005/2006 planting season, maize (zea mays) interpopulation crosses from three selection cycles (0, 1 and 2) initiated in 2003, single-cross parental hybrids and the double-cross f1 hybrid were evaluated in randomized blocks with five replicates, at two locations. in the next planting season, only interpopulational hybrids from cycles 0 and 2 were evaluated under the same conditions, with 40 replicates per location. the interpopulation hybrid had a yield performance equivalent to that of the best single-cross parent in few selection cycles. the estimates of genetic progress per cycle were of 7.9% (or 0.7 mg ha-1) for unhusked ear yield and of 3.5% for prolificacy. it is possible to infer that the reciprocal recurrent selection effectively improves the yield of interpopulational hybrids obtained from f2 generations of single-cross maize hybrids.

Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-35982010001000016
Abstract: the aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of the reduction on nutritional levels of diets for semi-heavy hens during the laying peak on performance, egg quality and bone parameters. a total of eight diets were evaluated, each one with five repetitions of eight birds: 1) control: formulated to supply requirements by the birds; 2) control + 0.03% or 600 ftu; 3) 15% crude protein; 2,800 kcal me; 3.8% ca and 0.28% ap; 4) diet 3 + 0.03% or 600 ftu; 5) 14% crude protein; 2,750 kcal me; 3.4% ca and 0.23% ap; 6) diet 5 + 0.03% or 600 ftu; 7) 13% crude protein; 2,700 kcal me; 3.0% ca and 0.18% ap; and 8) diet 7 + 600 ftu. the reduction of the nutritional levels harmed the performance of the birds, particularly egg production and egg mass, which improved by the inclusion of phytase in the diets. however, the parameters for egg quality did not change as the level was reduced down to 15% crude protein; 2,800 kcal me/kg; 3.80% ca and 0.280% ap, which was not repeated in the levels with lower nutritional density. reduction of nutritional levels did not affect the evaluated bone parameters, except for resistance, which improved as phytase was added at the level 600 ftu. reduction on the diet nutritional levels to 15% crude protein; 2,800 kcal me/kg; 3.80% ca and 0.280% ap with the addition of 600 ftu of phytase does not impair egg production neither egg mass and improve the bone health of birds.

Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-35982011001000002
Abstract: the objective of this study was to assess the sward canopy structure of brachiaria brizantha cv. marandu pastures maintained in three grazing intensities under continuous stocking system during the rainy season, along with the behavior and performance of grazing beef heifers supplemented with mineral salt or an energy/protein supplement. three levels of forage allowance were assessed: 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 kg of forage/kg of live weight, combined with two supplements (ad libitum mineral salt, and an energy/protein supplement at 0.3% of live weight/day, supplied daily). the experiment was designed as a randomized block study with two replications. the supplements did not influence the variables related to the canopy structure. canopy height was greater at higher forage allowances during the late summer and early fall. similarly, the stem mass was greater in pastures with higher forage allowances. animals fed protein supplement spent less time grazing than animals supplemented with mineral salt. stocking rate was higher in pastures with lower forage allowance levels, which increased the live weight gain per grazing area. daily weight gain did not vary according to the forage allowance levels. the use of an energy/protein supplement did not affect the stocking rate; however, it increased individual live weight gain and live weight gain per grazing area compared with mineral salt supplementation. the use of energy/protein supplements is an efficient alternative to enhance animal performance and production under grazing systems during the rainy season

Journal of Biophysical Chemistry (JBPC) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jbpc.2012.31008
Abstract: Two series of farnesyltransferase (FTase) inhibitors were grouped and their antimalarial activi-ties modeled by means of multivariate image analysis applied to quantitative structure-activity relationship (MIA-QSAR). A reliable model was achieved, with r2 for calibration, external prediction and leave-one-out cross-validation of 0.96, 0.87 and 0.83, respectively. Therefore, biological activities of congeners can be estimated using the QSAR model. The bioactivities of new compounds based on the miscellany of substructures of the two classes of FTase inhibitors were predicted using the MIA-QSAR model and the most promising ones were submitted to ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) and docking evaluation. Despite the smaller interaction energy of the two most promising, predicted compounds in comparison to the two most active compounds of the data set, one of the proposed structures did not violate any Lipinski’s rule of five. Therefore, it is either a potential drug or may drive synthesis of similar, improved compounds.

Abstract: the history of the republic proclamation in northern periphery of the brazilian empire (1822-1889), as well as the specificities of its regional cultural consequences still lack more detailed analysis. in maranh?o fin de siècle, the economic crisis of agro-export system added to the slave labor political crisis bequeathed to the republican regime early decades an intense social struggle around the definition of the citizenship boundaries, in which the racial subordination of black people is a crucial point. this paper looks closer to these deadlocks through the fictional work of the black writer raul astolfo marques (1876-1918). son of a free cafusa, the author is an outgrowth of a generation of slave descendants who have floundered in the fragility of freedom conquered in the formalism of slave abolition and equality, granted on november 15, 1889. a significant part of his literature can be understood as a systematic attempt to interpret these hopes and frustrations. the republic subject appears throughout his intellectual career, in writings e.g. "abnega??o" (1901), "a última sess?o" (1903), "o discurso do fabrício" (1903), "a opini?o da euzébia" (1904), "de coroa e barrete" (1908) e "reis republicanos" (1916). it remains to be said that his only novel a nova aurora (1913) is entirely devoted to the description of the first month of republican regime implementation. in the first part of the present paper, i ask which "versions of history" and significant episodes guide his fictional reconstruction of the november 15th 1889 consequences, focusing the short story "o discurso do fabrício" and the chronicle "a última sess?o". in the second part, i discuss the literary treatment given by the author to the problem of public policy in rodrigues alves (1902-1906) republican government, the heyday of sanitation ideology in the country, with tremendous impact in maranh?o due to the outbreak of bubonic plague in early 1904s. in this respect, combining text, pre-text and cont
