Andrade, Marta Mega de;
Anais do Museu Paulista: História e Cultura Material , 1996, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-47141996000100020
Abstract: this essay focuses on richard sennett's flesh and stone. the body and the cify in western dvilization. it stresses some of lhe central questions in sennett's baok: the relationship between a global history and a local perspective; .uses" or .ways of doing" as ways of producing. although not sennett's main concern, implications of these questions in lhe field of material culture studies are investigated, especially the possibility of a discursive paradigm in the analysis of spatial practices and bodily experiences.
O espa?o funerário: comemora??es privadas e exposi??o pública das mulheres em Atenas (séculos VI-IV a.C.)
Andrade, Marta Mega de;
Revista Brasileira de História , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-01882011000100010
Abstract: this paper analyses the funerary celebrations of women in athens, focusing particularly on attic epigrams. it explores the thesis that funerary contexts, viewed as 'publicizing' and exposing spaces, highlight a positive relation of the polis community towards its women, by means of the valorization of question such as philia relationships and the recurring epic traditional eulogies, which formerly applied only to men. i seek to discuss this positivity, drawing on vernant's thesis of a strong connection between the public space and political identity, arguing that female presentation in funerary spaces can be conceived as one of the ways by which polis society represents its identity, moving beyond the restrictive frame of citizen values.
Mito e gênero: Pandora e Eva em perspectiva histórica comparada
Silva, Andréia Cristina Lopes Fraz?o da;Andrade, Marta Mega de;
Cadernos Pagu , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-83332009000200012
Abstract: in this article, we discuss theoretical and methodological potentials of gender studies in comparative history. by analyzing enunciations of pandora's (hesiod's theogony and works and days) and eva's (version of the medieval portuguese bible) myths, we focus on gender issues associated to body and marriage in ancient greece (classical athens) and in the kingdom of portugal at the end of middle ages. our interest lies on how difference is signified, questioned and legitimated in relation to these two distinct historical contexts.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of the water restriction technique as an alternative to deep freezing for inhibiting wheat seed germination during blotter test incubation. The two techniques were compared using sixty seed samples collected in different areas of Minas Gerais state and other regions of Brazil. The water restriction established was determined by using manitol, at a potential of -1.10 MPa, based on the results of preliminary essays. The mean incidence of B. sorokiniana was not affected by any of the two techniques. Values for the incidence of Pyricularia grisea, Aspergillus ochraceus, Cladosporium cladosporioides and Epicoccum purpuracens were higher when water restriction was used. On the other hand, values for the incidence of Alternaria alternata, Drechslera tritici-repentis and Fusarium graminearum were lower with water restriction. Elongation of the seed radicle can be tolerated to a certain degree during blotter test incubation and the water restriction technique is a potential alternative of the freezing technique for detecting most of the fungi associated with wheat seeds.
Potency of Piper crocatum Decoction as an Antihiperglycemia in Rat Strain Sprague dawley
MEGA SAFITHRI,FARAH FAHMA
HAYATI Journal of Biosciences , 2008,
Abstract: Current researches for appropriate hypoglycemic agents focused on plants for traditional medicine. Traditionally in diabetic treatment, people used decoctions of Piper crocatum (Piperaceae). However, there is no phytochemical data of decoctions extract of P. crocatum. Hence, the aims of this study were to explore the phytochemical of P. crocatum decoctions and its antihyperglicemic activity. Fresh leaves of P. crocatum were boiled in water to obtain decoction and were examined phytochemical compounds by using Harbone assay. Antihyperglicemic activity of P. crocatum decoction extract was orally fed to alloxan induced diabetic rats. Results showed that P. crocatum decoction extract contained flavonoids, tanins, and alkaloids. Ten days of daily treatment of various doses decoction extract of P. crocatum led to reduce blood sugar level by 10-38% and prevent fall in body weight level by 5-52%. This result showed the same activity as Daonil treatment, which was the diabetic drug. Hence, this extract showed antihyperglicemic activity in alloxan-induced diabetic rats and increasing of their body weight.
Including Extra Virgin Olive Oil May More Improve Glycemic Control despite Similar Weight Loss Compared to the Diet Recommended by the Prostate Cancer Foundation: A Randomized, Pilot Study  [PDF]
Mary M. Flynn, Jennifer Cunningham, Joseph Renzulli, Anthony Mega
Journal of Cancer Therapy (JCT) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jct.2017.810077
Abstract: Recommendations for prostate cancer treatment include weight loss, but the most efficacious diet has not been determined. Men on active surveillance or with untreated biochemical relapse consumed both the diet recommended by the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and a plant-based that included three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil per day for 8 weeks of weight loss and improvement in some laboratory biomarkers with random assignment to the diet order. They then selected one of the diets for six months of follow-up. Thirty men started the protocol and 18 completed the 44 week study. Mean age: 66.6 ± 5.9 years; baseline body mass index: 30.9 ± 2.7 kg/m2. Weight loss was comparable between the diets after 8 weeks (PCF: 2.5% ± 3.1% v olive oil: 2.8% ± 3.7%; p = 0.86), but the diet that included olive oil resulted in lower insulin (PCF: 13.7 ± 7.0 mU/L v olive oil: 11.5 ± 4.4 mU/L; p = 0.02), glucose (PCF: 104.9 ± 9.9 mg/dl v 99.1 ± 9.6 mg/dl; p = 0.01), and HOMA-IR (PCF: 3.6 ± 2.1 v olive oil: 2.9 ± 1.2; p = 0.02). Thirteen of the 18 men choose the olive oil diet for six months of follow-up and weight loss and lab improvements were maintained. This pilot study indicates that both the PCF diet and the plant-based diet that included extra virgin olive oil can produce similar weight loss short-term. However, a plant-based diet that includes extra virgin olive may be more acceptable for long-term use, and produce better glycemic control.
Assessment on the Evaluation of Learning in Medical Education  [PDF]
Marta Aparecida de Lima Machado Calegari, Patricia Alves de Souza
Creative Education (CE) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2017.86068
Abstract: The evaluation of learning has been the subject intriguing, full of stigmas historically constructed. Sometimes (most) is seen as instrument of punishment, coercion, discipline. The nature is classified as descriptive exploratory approach with mixed quantitative and qualitative. To collect data, questionnaires were given to students and teachers from 1st to 4th year course and consultation with the instruments of Student Performance Evaluation (AD). Treatment of qualitative data was by content analysis. It was observed that there are similarities between the objectified and practice, teachers and students recognize the systematic evaluation used as a component in the construction of knowledge, however, is not fully understood the operationalization process of this design evaluation by the subjects involved in research, because existence of distortions in its implementation by students and teachers compromising the pedagogical dimension of assessment, for example the “standardization” of the considerations made in relation to student performance. These factors credibility in AD by students showed decline throughout the course. However the traditional evaluation culture is still present in moments of assessment because the talks are still noticeable feeling of fear of exposing opinions. It was therefore concluded that no action needs to AD in practice between in accordance with the theory, for example, with skills that motivate teachers to the correct implementation of the proposal. It is also necessary to make the student realize the process as responsible for the results in individual and collective performances of AD.

Ciclos de vida: algumas quest?es sobre a psicologia do adulto
Oliveira, Marta Kohl de;
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-97022004000200002
Abstract: this article seeks to systematize some reflections on the possibility of formulating a psychology of the adult, starting from the definition of psychological development as a transformation that occurs throughout the life, and from the postulation of adulthood as a culturally organized stage of the subject's passage through the typically human existence. based on the assertion of the importance of the cultural practices and activities to the constitution of the psyche, especially through the execution of tasks and the use of instruments and signs as mediators of the psychological activity, ways of historicizing the psychology of the adult are pursued. to that end, a deeper understanding of the organization of different cultural practices is proposed, as well as of the shared construction of sense and meanings, of the internalization of ways of doing, thinking and producing culture in each one of its concrete domains, whose purpose is to go beyond the more common practice in psychology, i.e., that of presenting as universal that which is historically contextualized. with the intention of enhancing the understanding about a specific group of adults, a discussion is included in this article of empirical data obtained during the preliminary stage of a research on urban workers attending a supletivo course (a substitute course for secondary education) with the purpose of increasing schooling in connection with their preparation for work. implications for the education of youngsters and adults, implied throughout the text, are briefly elucidated at the end.
Circuito aberto: idéias e intercambios médico-científicos na América Latina nos primórdios do século XX
Almeida, Marta de;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702006000300010
Abstract: this article discusses the latin american medical congresses and international exhibitions on hygiene held in the first few decades of the 20th century as a strategy for underpinning and influencing medical knowledge within the specialized community itself and for public authorities, which were fundamental for presenting to society at large as they were seen as the vehicles of official know-how on the art of medicating. these events made up part of a broader movement to internationalize and coordinate the professional field of medicine in latin america. the article further suggests that the activities that took place during these events played a key role in the propagation of ideas and exchange of experience between latin american nations, forming a network of scientific exchange in the continent.
