Grando, Lucia Helena;Rolim, Marli Alves;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692005000600011
Abstract: this qualitative and descriptive study takes the family of patients with eating disorders as a starting point. we aimed to contextualize this theme and apprehend, from the reports of interviewed professionals, their representations about the family of these patients and its influence on the genesis and development of the illness. data showed that, at first, the family is represented as a primary social group which is always expecting certain behaviors and which, as a formative element, participates in the origin of the disorder. subsequently, the family theme appears to be more directed to understanding the family as an element that maintains the eating disorder, in which the not very defined limits among its members disturb the relationship, often evidencing an alteration in the hierarchy: the parents start to be controlled by their child.

----- Selective Placement of Mentally Challenged People in Organizations: a qualitative analysis ----- ABSTRACT ----- Selective placement is a legal way to hire people with intellectual disabilities. Abstract: This article aims to describe the guiding principles and the operationalization of the integrated curriculum of the undergraduate course in Nursing of a public university in southern Brazil. This is an experience report by 3 curriculum managing professors and 2 graduate students in Nursing, who experience the pedagogical proposal. The analysis comprised official documents and 2 books on this integrated Nursing curriculum, which has been developed for 13 years; it is presented in 4 topics: guiding principles; curricular structure; role of the professor and student; and collegiate management. We present reflections on the curriculum, expressing the framework supporting the proposal and the developmental strategies adopted. This experience points out the dialogical movement of participants in this education action, i.e. professors and students, from a critical and innovative perspective of nurse’s training. We conclude that the pathway reported highlights key themes of the pedagogical proposal, such as inseparability of theory and practice; the diversification of teaching strategies; the successive close approaches between contents in interdisciplinary modules; learning evaluation from a two-dimensional perspective; early introduction of the student to different settings of professional practice; and the democratic and participatory management process in a collective construction. We hope to contribute to other institutions trying to develop an innovative methodology for nurse’s training.

Abstract: microbiology as we know, has given the theoretical and methodological elements to set up and evaluate the concept of "tropical disease", to confirm and establish it. tropical medicine is known today as a science dealing with parasites and infections, the most common causes of health affections throughout the intertropical zone of the globe. due to a wider identification of these infections, this speciality has increased its scope, the infections having a natural diversity in the tropics. the vision of the tropics, which the main component included the climatic determination of disease, is decreased today by the concept that diseases are on a social and economic basis, as well as ecologically set up. this interpretation which highlights the physical and natural determinants of disease, tends to place climatic, geographic and biological factors on the same level, reducing man to the animal interaction plan and turning culture and society as another way of the environment.

Silva, Dóris Marli Petry Paulo da;Marziale, Maria Helena Palucci;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692000000500007
Abstract: the purpose of this study was to identify the rates of absenteeism of nursing workers from a university hospital due to diseases. therefore, the author verified the number of absences due to health problems registered during 12 months, calculating the frequency rate as well as the percentage of wasted time. data were collected and transcribed after consultation to reports organized by the human resources department of the institution studied. results showed that the higher rate of absence occurred in the pediatric unit (if=0,35) and the higher percentage of wasted time occurred in the emergency unit (tp= 4,19). the author concluded that the rate of absenteeism due to disease was high among the workers, indicating the need of creating a database in order to optimize the registration of absences and their control as well as of stimulating the development of future research.

Engenharia Ambiental : Pesquisa e Tecnologia , 2011,
Abstract: The adequacy of rural properties, based on legislation in force, constitutes an essential measure for preservationand conservation of the environment, especially water bodies and springs. This work has developed proposals forthe environmental suitability of a country estate in Palotina, State of Parana, to reduce environmental impacts.The study was conducted in four stages: (1) characterization of the study area, (2) data collection through fieldvisits, (3) processing and digitization of data, and (4) developing proposals for final adjustment of rural property.Two proposals were drawn up and opted for the more economically viable for the producer. Comparing theproposals made, and recognizing that the economic viability of the family depends on income from agriculture,we opted for the proposal on the area where the APP and legal reserve would equal 25% of the total propertyarea (Proposal 1), which is preserved in the larger pasture area, reducing the impact of property regulationdeterminations of environmental legislation, without, however, cripple rural activities.

Brazilian Journal of Plant Physiology , 2003,
Abstract: A lectin was isolated from the pod saline extract of Caesalpinia tinctoria by dialoconcentration on Centripep-10 and affinity chromatography on chitin column. The purified lectin was partially characterized with respect to its biochemical and structural properties. It contains 8.3 % of carbohydrate and exhibited an agglutinating activity against human erythrocytes (ABO groups). Its amino acid composition was characterized by a great number of acidic and hydrophobic residues and the estimated molecular mass was 12.5 kDa. The presence of only one N-terminal amino acid sequence (D1-V-P-A-Y-V-Y-V-H-F10-G-F-G-E-E-H-R -D-V-F20-D), showed the homogeneity of the purified lectin. The far-ultraviolet circular dichroism (CD) spectrum of lectin indicated that it contains 10 % a-helix, 38 % b-sheet, 28 % unordered form and 6 % of P II (poly-L-proline II helix conformation).

Ensaio: Avalia??o e Políticas Públicas em Educa??o , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-40362008000100010
Abstract: taking into consideration an external evaluation of a teacher education program, this paper intends to show the usefulness of case studies to appraise changes in teachers' perspectives and practices and to disclose the social impact of the program. first, a brief description of the teacher education program shows that it associates self instructional material and group meetings. next, the paper presents the program evaluation procedures: six case studies were conducted in three different states in the country, including classroom observations; analysis of teachers' written memories; interviews with teachers, tutors and local staff; and administration of teacher's written tests. the last part of the paper discusses the case studies main outcomes: changes in teachers' conceptions and practices; improvement in their writing abilities; improvement in teachers' self confidence; increasing teachers' evaluation of local culture and pupils' experiences; and positive effects in local policies and in schools contexts.
