Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyze maternal and child health indicators and infant mortality rate (IMR) at the cities located at the 18th Health Division (HD) in Parana State, Brazil. In this ecological study we analyzed all live births and infant deaths which occurred from 2000 to 2009 at the 18th HD, collecting data from the Mortality Information Database and the Live Births Information Database. The variables assessed were grouped into maternal, pregnancy and delivery, and neonatal variables. The analysis was conducted using the mean percentage of each variable and the IMR calculated for both periods: from 2000 to 2004 and from 2005 to 2009. The IMR was reduced considerably, following Brazil's and Paraná State's trend. Maternal indicators went down regarding the mean percentage of teenage mothers and low education, whereas they went up regarding mother with 35?years old or older and mothers without a partner. Pregnancy indicators showed increased prematurity and cesarean birth. Neonatal indicators raised in black/brown skin color and low birth weights percentages. This study provides a better understanding of maternal and child health in the cities located at the 18th HD, supplying grounds to plan actions regarding the real needs of each specific city. 1. Introduction Maternal and child health is a priority in Brazil’s agenda of health programs and actions, as well as in several countries. The concept of maternal and child health has expanded over the years, which also includes a set of knowledge, practices, and attitudes that aim at the promotion of healthy pregnancies, deliveries, and births and also the prevention of maternal and child mortality [1]. Brazil, as many other areas in the world, has been showing a reduction in infant mortality rate (IMR), mainly due to sanitary investments and increased health services accessibility [2]. In 1990, Brazil’s infant mortality rate was 47.1 deaths by a thousand live births. In 2009, it went down to 22.5 by a thousand live births [3]. In Paraná State, infant mortality has also decreased in the last years. In 2001, this rate was 17.4 by a thousand live births, and in 2008, this rate declined to 12.1 by a thousand live births, showing a 30.4% reduction. However, important inequities are observed among the cities located at the 18th Health Division area, which must be highlighted and addressed by health managers while devising prevision and distribution of resources and services, as well as health professionals’ qualification [4]. Studies conducted in Paraná State expose inequities in maternal, pregnancy,

Abstract: the criticism to the subject of interiority and to the philosophies of consciousness, which consider a unified and coherent individual the source of action, has atributed to another great unified agency the origin of all action. the language, the discourses, the society, the culture, the history replace the role of the subject as agency. however, they keep being unaldutered instances credited with the privilege of the action. the subject is discarded, but there is still an idealistic continuity sustaining that the agency can only be placed in the field of the human-among-themselves. this study is developed exactly to be against this prerrogative of an agency restricted to humans-among-themselves, as well as to defend the hybrids, the social technical collectives and the machines. this work will explore concepts from gilles deleuze, felix guattaari, bruno latour and pierre levy, articulating them in order to deal with a concept of subjectivity which could avoid the agency credited only to humans-among-themselves.

Health (Health) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/health.2013.510209
Abstract:

Objective: The objective was to identify spatial distribution patterns for preventable infant mortality and the main causes of death in three municipalities of Paraná state, Brazil. Design and Sample: Ecological study on infant mortality among residents of the municipalities of Maringá, Sarandi and Pai?andu, between 2004 and 2008. Measures: Data were obtained from reports by the Infant Mortality Prevention Committee, georeferenced in 19 Demographic Expansion Areas and analyzed statistically using Local Moran’s Index. Results: Of the 284 deaths among children under one year of age, 68.7% were considered preventable, and higher percentages were found in outlying areas. The main causes were illnesses originated during the perinatal period (73.8%), external causes (11.3%) and diseases of the respiratory system (5.1%). Conclusion: It is necessary to implement actions and policies on child and prenatal assistance, in order to reduce the inequality observed between the central and outlying areas of the region under study.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to determine the productive potential and the genotype by environment interaction of 550 accessions of the embrapa's rice core collection. the performance, and yield adaptability and stability of each genotype was evaluated using the additive main effects and multiplicative interactions (ammi) approach, in nine field experiments, carried out in six brazilian states, under dry and irrigated conditions, during three years. the linear mixed model analysis was performed, and the estimates of the variance components were obtained by the residual maximum likelihood (reml), using the best linear unbiased prediction (blup) procedure for the prediction of the genotypic values of random effects (eblup) associated with each accession. the group of accessions with better performance was the one of lines and cultivars from brazil (lcb), as expected. however, traditional varieties (vt) were identified among the best yielding genotypes, which shows the potential of this germplasm group to contribute as a new source of genetic variability to breeding programs. superior accessions were identified for their stability, adaptability and grain yield, among which ca880078, ca840182 and cna00091 stand out.

Abstract: the experiment was carried out with 20 intact holstein male calves, 75 days old, with mean live weight of 76 kg, submitted to the same nursing system before starting the experiment. the objective was to evaluate the relative size of internal organs and viscera of these animals fed diets containing 45, 60, 75 and 90% of concentrate. diets were composed of coastcross hay, ground corn grain, soybean meal and mineral mixture. the experimental design was a randomized blocks, with four treatments and five replicates. the experimental period was different for each treatment, where the animals were slaughtered as they reached a mean weight of 200 kg. before slaughter, the animals were fasted for 16 hours. the absolute weights for the liver, kidneys, lungs, abomasum, mesentery and fat present in the carcass linearly increased as the levels of concentrate in the diets increased. there were no significant differences for the weight of the other organs and viscera, nor for the non constituint parts of the carcasses of the animals, as leather, feet, head and tail, in relation to the levels of the concentrate.
