Abstract: assessing the impacts of technologies generated by agricultural research is an important issue for inifap. initially, this assessment was referred almost exclusively to economic impacts, but in recent times social and environmental dimensions have been incorporated, as a result of concerns about the sustainability of production systems. in 2009, we conducted a series of surveys to the cooperating producers who participated in a technology transfer project for peach, where primary information was gathered on the economic, social and environmental impact on model gardens, promoted for 6 years in a technology transfer project. in addition, a specialized software was used to estimate the economic benefit to society of investment in the project, assuming the adoption of the technology in an area of 5 hectares, and expecting an average yield of 12 tons per hectare. the estimation of the economic return of the research was carried out by calculating the indicators of convenience; in this case tir was estimated at 63.69%, a van of $ 23.5 million pesos and a benefit /cost ratio of 7.02, which means that for every peso invested in the generation and dissemination of this practice, the country made a $7 profit.

Discovering Oneself and Discovering Ourselves with the Help of Literature: Educational Possibilities of Narrative  [PDF]
Alfredo Rodríguez-Sedano, Aurora Bernal Martínez de Soria, Miguel Rumayor
Creative Education (CE) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2010.12015
Abstract: Undoubtedly narrative in education has frequently been studied. Nonetheless, in this paper we want to explore the different educational possibilities offered by narrative in order to discover identity through tradition. MacIntyre’s thought offers the categories of practice, tradition and narrative, in order to penetrate the central questions of personal identity and communicability that we consider the most suggestive. Some authors understand narrative as a very accurate means to access tradition and self-knowledge as well as to show the unity of human life and to vindicate the unity of tradition that we can face and those elements that constitute our moral habitat.

Abstract: work aim to assess the prevalence of severe hypertension (sht) in the emergency department (ed); evaluate patient's characteristics and the efficacy of a clinical practice guideline (cpg) based on a normative guideline published by the argentine hypertension council, argentine society of cardiology. design and methods patients presenting with sht to 31 different ed were included. the study was divided into 2 phases: a whole population statistical data acquisition phase (phase i) and an interventional phase (phase ii) which only included patients without acute target organ damage (atod). patients in the latter phase underwent a cpg that consecutively included rest and randomly assigned antihypertensive drugs with different mechanisms and onset of action (amlodipine 10 mg; labetalol 200 mg, or perindopril 4 mg). results 816 patients were included (60.4±14.7 years old; 50.4% male; 87.4% without atod). the estimated prevalence of sht was 9%. previous hypertension (ht) was identified in 83.46%. among those with previously known ht, 86.23% were on antihypertensive drug treatment and their sbp was >150 mm hg. satisfactory response to rest was observed in 32% of the population. among non-responders, 79.14% showed a satisfactory response to antihypertensive drug treatment. considered safety parameters were: mean blood pressure (mbp) reduction > 20% from baseline and a smaller account or absence of adverse events in the ed. a reduction in mbp >20% was observed in 5.6% of rest responders and 15.9% of those who received drug treatment. no related events were observed in the ed. conclusion the present survey provided a clinical characterization of sht patients and suggests that the proposed cpg can be an efficient and safe alternative.
The Response of Human Macrophages to β-Glucans Depends on the Inflammatory Milieu

Abstract: Background β-glucans are fungal cell wall components that bind to the C-type lectin-like receptor dectin-1. Polymorphisms of dectin-1 gene are associated with susceptibility to invasive fungal infection and medically refractory ulcerative colitis. The purpose of this study has been addressing the response of human macrophages to β-glucans under different conditions mimicking the composition of the inflammatory milieu in view of the wide plasticity and large range of phenotypical changes showed by these cells, and the relevant role of dectin-1 in several pathophysiological conditions. Principal Findings Serum-differentiated macrophages stimulated with β-glucans showed a low production of TNFα and IL-1β, a high production of IL-6 and IL-23, and a delayed induction of cyclooxygenase-2 and PGE2 biosynthesis that resembled the responses elicited by crystals and those produced when phagosomal degradation of the phagocytic cargo increases ligand access to intracellular pattern recognition receptors. Priming with a low concentration of LPS produced a rapid induction of cyclooxygenase-2 and a synergistic release of PGE2. When the differentiation of the macrophages was carried out in the presence of M-CSF, an increased expression of dectin-1 B isoform was observed. In addition, this treatment made the cells capable to release arachidonic acid in response to β-glucan. Conclusions These results indicate that the macrophage response to fungal β-glucans is strongly influenced by cytokines and microbial-derived factors that are usual components of the inflammatory milieu. These responses can be sorted into three main patterns i) an elementary response dependent on phagosomal processing of pathogen-associated molecular patterns and/or receptor-independent, direct membrane binding linked to the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif-bearing transmembrane adaptor DNAX-activating protein 12, ii) a response primed by TLR4-dependent signals, and iii) a response dependent on M-CSF and dectin-1 B isoform expression that mainly signals through the dectin-1 B/spleen tyrosine kinase/cytosolic phospholipase A2 route.
La ense?anza de las ciencias de la información en el currículum de los estudiantes de medicina y de otras especialidades afines
Nodarse Rodríguez,Mario;
ACIMED , 2005,
Abstract: in order to determine the present tendencies toward the incorporation of the teaching of information science to the curriculum of the medical students and other related specialties, it was made a review of the literature available in the biomedical databases -bibliographical or complete text style- and of multiple web sites with information related to the theme, starting from different search engines -general and thematic. the current world tendency is the information literacy to all the society, at all levels of eduation, especially at the university. an increasing importance is given to the introduction of courses or subjects on information sciences to the curriculum of the medical students and of other health professions at the world level. the curriculum design, in effect in cuba for the career of medicine and other related disciplines, lacks a program, subject or course that contributes to the knowledge and creation of the necessary skills among the students of these disciplines to use the resources and the information associated with their specialties.
DOS METONIMIAS DE NERUDA Y PARRA: EL BOLERO Y LA CUECA
Rodríguez,Mario;
Revista chilena de literatura , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22952011000200008
Abstract: "la cueca" and "el bolero" are musical forms proposed as metonymies of a poetic prosody and syntax in neruda's veinte poemas de amor y una canción desesperada, and in parra's la cueca larga and artefactos. this work focuses mainly on the rhythmic and melodic substance of the verses, thus surpassing a division between language and music.
OíR Y NO LEER A BOLA?O "LA ENTONACIóN ORAL DE LA PROSA"
Rodríguez,Mario;
Universum (Talca) , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-23762009000200009
Abstract: this research suggests that spoken language, the oral mode used to narrate los detectives salvajes, with the strategies pertaining naturally to orality such as ellipsis, innuendo and anacoluthon, produces the basic structural mechanisms of the novel and helps to make it bola?o?s best work. the novel can be imagined as a laboratory in which a dual experiment is being conducted: the listening to a story that can be written/ the writing of a story that can be recited. the above proposition de-ritualizes the act of reading. the experiment is based on the fact that the simulation of oral production in the writing, when it functions together with what is inherent to it (major innuendoes between the speaker and the listener) produces a tension that is never dispelled, which captures the reader, who has occupied the place of the listener, with multiple conjectures that are impossible to resolve. the most important of these refers to evil. are its origins contingent or causal? thus it is that the riddle and its inseparable partner, the sphinx (cesárea tinajero, in this case) provide the novel with one of its key dimensions, that of a great mediation on evil.
The diplomatic battle between Beijing and Taipei in Central America and the Caribbean
Mario Esteban Rodríguez
Revista CIDOB d'Afers Internacionals , 2008,
Abstract: Half of the 23 countries that maintain official diplomatic relations with Taiwan are in Central and South America. One of the main objectives of China’s growing presence in this region is to achieve diplomatic recognition from these countries. This article examines the factors that are taken into consideration by Latin American and Caribbean countries when deciding whether to establish official diplomatic relations with China or with Taiwan. In this analysis,the author claims that over the short-term, there will not be a rapid, sharp drop in the number of Taiwan’s political allies in the region, in spite of the fact that Costa Rica decided to establishdiplomatic relations with Beijing in June 2007.
