Biodiesel production by hydroesterification of microalgal biomass using heterogeneous catalyst  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper assesses the hydroesterification process for the production of Biodiesel from Monoraphidium contortum (MORF-1) microalgae biomass, as it is a sustainable alternative not only economically, but also environmentally and ecologically to replace petroleum diesel fuel. The Biodiesel studied in this work was obtained from fatty acid esterification, a product of microalgae and methanol biomass hydrolysis reaction. CBMM’s (HY-340) niobium oxide powder was used as catalyst. The reactions were carried out in a properly closed autoclave reactor (batch), where the reagents were mixed under constant stirring at 500 rpm for hydrolysis and esterification. The products generated were submitted to gas chromatography and oxidative stability analysis. The hydroesterification process showed itself to be a promising alternative to the conventional biodiesel production process (transesterification) as it favors the use of feedstocks with any acidity and moisture content and may be performed with acid catalyst, which favors high conversions in a small range of time (30 minutes).

Abstract: It is of great knowledge nowadays that the use of fossil fuels is responsible for the emission of gases that intensify the greenhouse effect, which threatens the survival of the humankind. The gravity of this fact could be mitigated through the indirect use of solar energy for fuels derived from vegetable that can be planted and cultivated by the world of renewable and non-polisher. Microalgae play an important role in this regard, as they have promising characteristics as potential raw material for the production of biofuels, able to absorb large amounts of CO2. Chlorophyll organisms convert these simple substances in the atmosphere, absorbing sunlight into chemical energy stored, that is, compounds with high energy, biomass can also be used to obtain biocompounds human nutritional supplement and food animal, however, have been found an important number of difficulties to economically viable production like high cost of production of dry biomass and oil extraction. Here, we review the main approaches of biorefinery concept appearing as an alternative to achieve economic viability of the production of bio-diesel based on microalgae. The major points are the following: 1) use of re-residual water, 2) marketing of Carbon Credits, and 3) development of co-products resulting from high value added.

Abstract: This work studies the saponification which directs the wet biomass of algae Chlamydomonas sp. like a previous stage to production of biodiesel. This stage allows the obtainment of fatty acids to produce biodiesel, instead of the gross lipid fraction. In addition of the fatty acids, utilizing the same process one can also obtain the fraction unsaponifiable, these are soluble in apolar solvents and contain mainly carotenoids that can take action as antioxidants and photoprotectors, as they reduce the oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids. The saponification direct and extraction of fatty acids from biomass is faster and reduces the time and cost of operation. The separation of unsaponifiable matter from the biomass humid of microalgae Chlamydomonas sp., was held according to the method AOCS (Ca 6a-40), using extraction Liquid-liquid with hexane as solvent. Subsequently, phase hydroalcoholic or from soap, containing fatty acids, was acidified by addition of H2SO4 and the fatty acids were recovered by the addition of hexane. After acidulation of the soap, necessary for obtaining of the fatty acids was performed the stage of esterification for obtaining of biodiesel. The operating conditions were: molar ratio fatty acid:methanol (1:10), as catalyst 8% H2SO4 calculated in relation to the mass of fatty acid, 200 and reaction time of 90 minutes. The content of methyl esters was 96.8% determined by gas chromatography according to standard EN14103. The quality of biodiesel produced from wet biomass of Chlamydomonas sp. is according to the specification established by standard EN 14214 and RANP No. 14. For the identification of the composition the unsaponifiable fraction was used the method of High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The composition of the material unsaponifiable found was of: Carotenoids total (0.76%); Lutein (0.45%); Zeaxanthin (0.07%); α-carotene (0.05%); β-carotene (0.11%); 13 cisβ-carotene (0.05%) and 9-cisβ-carotene (0.03%).
Construcción de un Inmunosensor Amperométrico utilizando Apirasa de Solanum tuberosum para la Detección de Esquistosomiasis

Abstract: this paper presents the development of an amperometric composites inmunosensor based on a vegetable protein for the determination of anti-ac s. mansoni. the inmunosensor consists of a rigid matrix built with graphite and epoxy resin in which immobilizes covalently the apyrase. the strategy of immobilization is based in silanization of the matrix composites with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (3-aptes) and its activation by glutaraldehyde. the detection was monitored by cyclic voltammetry fe(cn)64-/ fe(cn)63, obtaining a response quasi-reversible of the immunosensor and very stable over time. the immobilization was also characterized by angles contacts and scanning electron microscopy. these qualities are useful for determination clinical of schistosomiasis given the speed of response and sensitivity.

Abstract: introduction: one of the projects conducted by the educational program for health work (pet-saúde) at the botucatu school of medicine (unesp) focuses on comprehensive healthcare for the elderly through homecare. objective: the objective was to conduct homecare for the elderly through the family health unit, measuring impact and describing the medical students' perceptions of the care. methodology: the team consisted of a tutor, three preceptors, and 12 medical students. each student monitored one elderly patient, applying the expanded geriatric assessment, with an emphasis on functional capacity. each home visit was followed by discussions and proposals for non-pharmacological treatment plans. results: fifteen elderly individuals were assessed, and 12 were monitored, with a mean age of 84.3 years (± 2.6), 75% of whom were women. sixty-seven percent were dependent in their adl (activities of daily living) and 85% for iadl (instrumental activities of daily living). none of the elderly individuals required hospitalization during the homecare. students reported a better understanding of population aging and the appropriateness of homecare for the elderly. conclusions: the activities allowed establishing a bond among the team and fostered students' interest in care for the elderly. the methodology facilitated integration between teaching and the health service.
Microbiological evaluation of peracetic acid for disinfection of acrylic resins

Abstract: purpose: the aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of peracetic acid (paa) for the disinfection of dental acrylic resins experimentally contaminated with candida albicans, escherichia coli, staphylococcus aureus and pseudomonas aeruginosa. methods: fifteen materials were used for each type of resin (thermosetting, self-curing and microwave-curing). each material was placed in a test tube containing culture medium with a suspension of each microorganism and then incubated. the materials were rinsed and transferred to other tubes containing 50 ml of water for 5 min, 0.2% peracetic acid for 5 min or glutaraldehyde for 30 min. the materials were placed in the culture agar and incubated. microbial growth was determined by colony counting after plating. results: candida albicans growth was inhibited by peracetic acid and glutaraldehyde treatments. the number of colonies on resins treated with saline was greater than 105 cfu/ml. in resins infected with e. coli, s. aureus and p. aeruginosa the colony growth was not inhibited by saline and peracetic acid, but it was totally inhibited by glutaraldehyde. conclusion: surface disinfection using peracetic acid effectively inhibited c. albicans growth on all acrylic resins.

Abstract: Este trabajo presenta el desarrollo de un inmunosensor amperométrico composito a base de una proteína de origen vegetal para la determinación de antí-anticuerpo de S. mansoni. El inmunosensor consiste en una matriz electródica rígida construida con grafito y resina epoxi en la que se inmoviliza covalentemente la Apirasa. La estrategia de inmovilización se basa en silanización de la matriz compósita con 3-aminopropilsilano (3-APTES) y su activación mediante glutaraldehído. La inmovilización fue monitoreada mediante voltaamperometría cíclica en Fe(CN)6(4-)/Fe(CN)63, obteniéndose una respuesta cuasi-reversible del inmunosensor y muy estable en el tiempo. La inmovilización también fue caracterizada mediante ángulos de contactos y microscopía electrónica de barrido. Estas cualidades son aprovechables para la determinación clínica de esquistosomiasis dada la rapidez y sensibilidad de respuesta. Abstract: introduction: atopic dermatitis (ad) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that has a significant impact on the patients' quality of life due to recurrent episodes during their lives. considering recent studies describing the association between psychological aspects and atopic dermatitis, it can be suggested that the search of a possible behavioral profile of children presenting ad may be of help in the development of specific psychotherapeutic interventions as well as it will increase knowledge on the disease. methodology: this research aims at evaluating the social behavior profile of children with ad compared with others without the disease. in this case-control study, two groups aged 4 to 18 years old have been included; the study-group includes patients with atopic dermatitis who have been assisted at the hospital de clínicas de porto alegre (hcpa) and the control-group is composed of children and adolescents without ad enrolled at public schools in porto alegre. the estimated sample size was 25 individuals in each group. data collection was accomplished with the child behavior cheklist (cbcl), which was validated in brazil as inventário de comportamento da infancia e adolescência. results: significant statistic differences were demonstrated in both global dimensions (internalizing and externalizing). children with ad presented more symptoms related to anxiety, depression, thought alterations and aggressive behavior as compared to children without the disease. conclusion: the results emphasize the need of interdisciplinary approaches in treating children with ad, comprising not only the dermatological but also the emotional aspects of the disease.

Abstract: the article intends to distinguish the way structure is regarded by psychology from the way it is conceived in psychoanalysis, with the aim of analyzing the specificity of the idea of structure in psychoanalytical theory and its importance in relation to temporality. to this effect, psychological structure is seen firstly from the point of view of psychological gestaltism, a structuralism without genesis, and secondly, in piagetian theory, which introduces genesis into structure. in psychoanalytical structure temporality is of the order of actualization, as it can be seen in the concept of a posteriori (nachtr?glichkeit).
