Abstract: bioresorbable devices are alternatives for internal fixation. during the treatment, those devices maintain the fixation, degrade gradually and eliminate the need for a remove surgery, decreasing the treatment cost when compared with metallic devices. the aim of this work was to study the interaction polymer/tissue interaction using pins of plga and pds implanted in new zealand rabbits. the animals were separated in 3 groups which were sacrificed after 3, 6 and 12 weeks after implantation, and the obtained material was submitted to histological analysis. histological analysis with plga implants showed after 3 weeks, the growth of a tissue with mesenchimal characteristics, after 3 weeks, with formation of mature bone aready after 12 weeks. pds implants after 3 weeks showed a bigger invasion of mesenchimal tissue compared to plga and after 12 weeks an advanced degradation occurred, with proliferation of mesenchimal and bone tissue formation. it is concluded that the results are highly positive, with the relevant absence of cells responsible for inflammatory response. analysis showed that the copolymer plga has better ostoinductive properties than pds, showing biocompatibility acceptable for orthopedics application.

Abstract: the growing interest in medicine with the use of bioreabsorbable polymeric materials has been stimulating researchers from orthopedic area to develop more biological solutions, substituting threads, stems and metallic plates for bioreabsorbable polymers in the treatment of fractures. so, we decided to study implants of the plla/phbv blends (two bioreabsorbable polymers) moulded in a mini-injector. those implants were used for recovery of fractures of rabbit femur and assessed in comparison with the thread of steinmann (stainless steel, commercially used). after euthanasia with 6, 12 and 24 weeks of implantation of the artifacts, the bones were studied with x ray, histological exam and mechanic test, while the polymeric implants were submitted the scanning electron microscopy (sem), mechanic test and modular differential scanning calorimetry (mdsc). the x ray showed good calluses bone with the use of the polymer stem as well as with the metallic control. the histological study showed absence of inflammatory reactions or osteolysis. the mechanical test showed bone consolidation in the two groups. in the mechanical test and in the calorimetry studies, the polymeric stem presented signs of progressive degradation within the studied time. with the data obtained, we can state that the implant plla/phbv demonstrated to be as effective in repairing fractures of rabbit femur as the metallic control.

Abstract: poly (l-co-d,l lactic acid) (pldla) is an important biomaterial because of its biocompatibility properties that promote cellular regeneration and growth. the aim of this study was to evaluate the polymer-tissue interaction of pldla implants in the dorsal subcutaneous tissue of male wistar rats at various intervals (2, 7, 15, 30, 60 and 90 days) after implantation. physical properties such as the glass transition point (tg), degradation behavior and other mechanical properties were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (dsc), thermogravimetric analysis (tga), gel permeation chromatography (gpc), scanning electron microscopy (sem) and tension tests. analysis of the degradation of pldla membranes in vitro showed that the polymer became crystalline as a function of the degradation time. mechanical tension tests showed that the polymer behaved like a ductile material: when subjected to constant tension it initially suffered deformation, then elongation and finally ruptured. tga/mev provided evidence of pldla membrane degradation. for histological analysis, samples from each group were processed in xylol/paraffin, except for the 60 - and 90 - day samples. each of the latter samples was divided in two: one half was treated with xylol/paraffin and the other with historesin. light microscopy showed the adhesion of cells to the biomaterial, the formation of a conjunctive capsule around the implant, the presence of epithelioid cells, the formation of foreign body giant cells and angiogenesis. during degradation, the polymer showed a 'lace' - like appearance when processed in xylol/paraffin compared to the formation of "centripetal cracks in the form of glove fingers" when embedded in historesin.
Poesia concreta em prosa no asfalto: limites da deficiência no espa?o urbano
Castiglioni, Maria do Carmo;
Interface - Comunica??o, Saúde, Educa??o , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-32832012005000053
Abstract: this article deals with the urban population segment identified as homeless and disabled that is also. this contingent can be considered to be doubly excluded: through poverty and through disability. the social consequences of these factors deeply scar and compromise these people's lives. this adverse context gives rise to issues that deserve to be explored and gain visibility. the relevance of this subject inspired an investigative arrangement that sought to get to know, understand and reflect upon demands through individual stories that are intertwined with social history.
Currículo e forma??o de professores de História: uma alegoria
Martins, Maria do Carmo;
Educa??o em Revista , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-46982007000100009
Abstract: this paper refers to the contributions of the curricular studies for the teaching of history, considering that researches on this teaching, when passed by curricular questions, need approaches with educational theories and boardings. in this article i present a reflection over the academic disputes for the definition of contents of education, over the specificity of historical discipline in school and over the possibility of modifying the formation of history teachers, aiming at boardings about culture and education designed by curricular studies. the text was constructed as an allegory, parting from the picture of the painter terniers, the younger, entitled the archduke leopold wilhelm in his painting gallery at brussels, belonging to the museum of prado, in madrid.
A viagem histórica pela América Latina
Guedes, Maria do Carmo;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822007000500017
Abstract: from of the studies that marked sílvia lane's construction of a social psychology focused on our reality, the paper reports her journey to six latin american capitals undertaken in the beginning of the 1980's. the journey revealed to be rich in opportunity to closely know projects focused especially on populations submitted to various types of opression and exploitation, some of which are described in detail. the text was organized in a way to show the reader some antecedent conditions (the previous experience of the travelers and that of lane's in community psychology), the project (the possible choices related to field research), the journey (procedures and results of the interactions that were established, with information that permitted to recover projects that were visited) and, finally, some implications of trying to learn with colleagues and projects in a reality so close to ours.
Equívocos na publica??o científica: algumas considera??es
Guedes, Maria do Carmo;
Psicologia USP , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-65642011000200006
Abstract: publishing as a way of showing a production, and not as a way to disseminate a knowledge, may lead scientific authors and editors to certain ambiguities. based on the analysis of the publishing forms used nowadays, this article brings considerations about the extension of the margins between the different aims in the work of edition. in this article we will discuss the technical and scientific aspects of the work of the authors, as well as the editor’s, in the science field, that might disserve the spreading of knowledge. we also invite to a debate not about punctual cases, but about the problem of the pressure that university applies to its teachers to produce quantitatively.
De revista institucional a periódico científico: considera??es para uma história de Psicologia: Ciência e Profiss?o
Guedes, Maria do Carmo;
Psicologia: Ciência e Profiss?o , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-98932010000500006
Abstract: the initial analysis of the journal psicologia: ciência e profiss?o allows to divide it into two very different periods: before and after taking over as a scientific journal. this decision, taken at the right time, placed the journal in one of the most important groups of the area, as attested by capes. it seems, however, that its membership in a professional category makes it a journal different from the usual: as well as scientific articles, its publishing project includes the publication of reports of experience. to understand what this may indicate, this article explores the transition from institutional review to a journal in the context of scientific publishing in brazil.
