Estudo da valida??o das informa??es de peso e estatura em gestantes atendidas em maternidades municipais no Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
Oliveira, Andreia Ferreira de;Gadelha, Angela Maria Jourdan;Leal, Maria do Carmo;Szwarcwald, Célia Landmann;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2004000700010
Abstract: the main objectives of this article are the assessment of agreement between measure-based and report-based information on weight and height, besides the identification of the main characteristics related to 150 pregnant women who could report (versus could not report) their pre-gestational weight, weight at delivery, and height. according to the results, report-based information on previous weight is close to the measure-based information (pearson coefficient correlation 0.96 and intra-class correlation 0.92; p < 0.05), with the same occurring for weight at delivery (pearson coefficient correlation 0.96 and intra-class correlation 0.95; p < 0.05). nevertheless, linear regression analysis detects that this relationship is troublesome for the height variable (b0 = 45.5 and b1 = 0.71; p < 0.05), and therefore the report-based information for height must be used cautiously when the measure-based values are not available. in relation to the characterization of the group of pregnant women who did not inform the three measures (n = 141), these women have the least schooling (63.9%), did not attend or attended fewer prenatal appointments (64.3%), and entered the prenatal program later, when they were already in the second or third trimester (59.3%).

Santa-Clara, Angela Maria Oliveira;Ferro, Tícia Cassiany;Ferreira, Sandra Patrícia Ataíde;
Estudos de Psicologia (Natal) , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-294X2004000200015
Abstract: in the present paper the researcher's way of speaking is discussed from a perspective of social interaction, thus contesting the assumption of neutrality that has traditionally been attributed to it. the main purpose is to verify the influence of a researcher's verbal interventions on the construction of text comprehension of a ten-year-old fourth grade student at a private school in the city of recife. a narrative followed by seven questions composed the text comprehension task. the student was told to read the narrative and then to answer the researcher's questions orally. a qualitative analysis of the dialogue between student and researcher showed that the discursive movements that occurred during the interaction led to two significant changes: first, the researcher was able to break from the previously established routine; and second, there was a qualitative change on the textual representation initially constructed by the child. the latter of the two changes is seen as important evidence contradicting the assumption of language neutrality.

Abstract: the 6-minute walk test (t6) is used to assess cardiopulmonary diseases due to its prognosis capacity, easy performance and reproducibility. pulmonary hypertension (ph) is defined and classified as a hemodynamic consequence leading to increased pulmonary arterial pressure and may result in right ventricular failure and consequent death. this case reports the prescription of t6 by the cardiology team at a university hospital as a means of physical control of a patient with hp, after the introduction and initiation of therapy.

Abstract: type ii diabetes mellitus accounts for 90% of all cases of diabetes, and its inclusion in health evaluation has shown that its complications have a considerable impact on the population's quality of life. the current article presents the results of the global burden of disease study in brazil for the year 1998, with an emphasis on diabetes mellitus and its complications. the indicator used was disability-adjusted life years (daly), using a discount rate of 3%. in brazil, ischemic heart disease, stroke, and diabetes accounted for 14.7% of total lost dalys. brazil showed a higher proportion of years lived with disability (ylds) among total dalys for diabetes as compared to other countries. retinopathy and neuropathy were the complications that contributed most to ylds. according to forecasts, diabetes mellitus will have an increasing impact on years of life lost due to premature death and disability in the world, shifting from the 11th to 7th cause of death by 2030. it is thus urgent to implement effective measures for prevention, early diagnosis, counseling, and adequate follow-up of patients with diabetes mellitus.

Almeida, Angela Maria de Oliveira;
Sociedade e Estado , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69922009000300005
Abstract: the aim of this paper is to present the main contributions of willem doise to the development of the social representations theory. the following topics were examined: the social representations theory as the grand theory; the foundation of experimental social psychology laboratory in university of geneva; the experimental studies in social development of intelligence; the experimental studies in social representations; the four levels of analysis in social psychology; group relationships; the paradigm of three level and the human rights research. the adherence to the social representation theory assumes the study of indicators that organize the representational field, the analysis of the individual positioning in this field and the anchoring of these positioning in the societal dynamics. nevertheless, it is necessary to admit that this way of analysing is still little diffused in the scientific area of latin america.

Anais do Museu Paulista: História e Cultura Material , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-47141999000100003
Abstract: this work examines sao paulo's iconography in the paintings, water colors and litographies of the 19th century. departing from the ascertaining of the existence of a privilege of the city's surrounding areas, particularly the carmo meadow, and of this permanence yet in the turn of the century, when the city goes under an urbanization process and special growth, and photography is registring the central areas, we wanted to investigate the meanings of these representations. not only the presence of this space - the carmo meadow - in the imagery of this period (chroniclers, legislators, memorialists) but also the images of the city that have been made from this point of view. we have chosen to analyze some images of this area, focusing on the end of the century, in a counterpoint to works depicting the same region by chroniclers, journalists and memorialists, in an attempt to understand a little more about the society that had produced them.
