Social Development in a Game Context  [PDF]
Ana Lucia Petty, Maria Thereza C. C. de Souza
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2014.512152
Abstract:

Social development is a fundamental subject that challenges professionals who work with children and teenagers. Questions such as how to behave adequately, what limits must be defined, and at the same time, how to stimulate autonomy and create a cooperative environment, are daily made, but solutions are not always satisfactory. The aim of this paper is to present a possible contribution to the discussion, describing highlights of a successful initiative. The practice in seeing children with learning disabilities at the Laboratory of Studies about Development and Learning (University of Sao Paulo), also identifies the same questions and there is a permanent search for creative solutions. For the last 25 years, groups of children from the Fundamental School were seen by professionals who organized activities in a game context, challenging them to play, develop reasoning and construct favourable attitudes. Results show that playing games in an intervention context stimulated changes in attitudes and social behaviour. As a consequence, it enabled children interact and establish a better quality of relation, based on cooperation and mutual respect.

Communicative Development in a Game Context  [PDF]
Maria Thereza C. C. de Souza, Ana Lucia Petty
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2017.82014
Abstract: This report is a short overview of an intervention program in which communicative development in a game context is focused. Mastering languages and different ways of communication are indicators of cognitive development. These are some of the goals of the intervention program held at the Laboratory of Studies about Development and Learning (Institute of Psychology) to help children from the fundamental school with learning difficulties develop affective, cognitive, motor and social attitudes, in a context of problem-solving situations with games. As a consequence, they improve competence to express and interpret more adequately, as well as discuss strategies and solve different challenges, regarding the capacity of learning from others and enhancing language skills. To observe children playing communicative games allows to analyze how they think and act, which generates important information to intervene in pro of changing the attitudes that do not work in favour of the learning and developing processes. Analysis was made from data registered on records, and six children who participated at the program during three semesters were described for illustrative purpose. It indicates that this context, in which narratives are produced and where there is adult mediation, contributes to help them modify inadequate attitudes and improve the domain of different languages, expanding the repertoire of communication.

Abstract: the national curricular guidelines consider health an interdisciplinary area seen that its object " the process of human health and disease " involves social relations, biology and emotional expressions. this study aims to analyze the programs and activities of the curriculum implanted at the medical school of puc-campinas since 2001 with respect to interdisciplinary and multiprofessional actions involving other health courses. documents and personal statements from different participants involved in the course were analyzed. from the point of view of the interviewed persons, in spite of some difficulties related to fragmentation of knowledge and practices, lack of knowledge and prejudice regarding the fields and core areas of the health professions and the precarious employment conditions of the faculty, integration initiatives have taken place, above all the morphophysiological cycles, the clinical correlation and the family and community health practices. we conclude that interdisciplinary is present in the curricular proposal and as an intention of the university, but that it is carried on by individual initiatives, in "meetings" of students, teachers, employees and patients, winning significance and demonstrating a process in construction but still far away from transdisciplinarity.

The Current and Future Role of Drugs and Probiotics in the Management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease  [PDF]

Abstract: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and other auto-inflammatory disorders are conditions caused by chronic and persistent intestinal inflammation, which is mainly represented by Ulcerative Colitis (UC) or Crohn’s Disease (CD), both of which typically arise as chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal mucosa. Doctor’s main focus for treating IBD is the decrease on inflammation processes when the disease is active and promotes the maintenance of inflammation at normal levels. However, to deal with these two parameters is not easy, because the drugs usually used are related to several side effects and they are not totally effective to reduce inflammation and to keep the remission. Authors agree that the therapy approach should include drugs, dietary intervention and use of alternative substances as probiotics. The standard treatment approach for patients with CD and UC is traditionally done with the use of anti-inflammatory agents, like corticosteroids, mesalamine, immunomodulators such as azathioprine and methotrexate, and biologic agents such as infliximab and others. Probiotics are known as viable micro-organisms (or live microorganisms or live microbial dietary supplements) that may promote beneficial physiologic or therapeutic properties when used correctly. The interest in the role of these substances in improving human health is the reason of several researches. They may be used to help the immune system, to control gastro-intestinal infections and to prevent several diseases. Prebiotics, symbiotics, and probiotics may be helpful as adjuvants in the treatment of IBD. Probiotics are normally well-tolerated and are associated with few side effects which are undoubtedly important in the treatment of any disease.
