The effect of cyclic torsion on the dislocation structure of drawn mild steel

Abstract: cold forming is usually associated with the "work hardening" of the material being formed. the work hardening behavior of metals subject to complex processing paths is different from that in monotonic deformation. the results show that, after some initial hardening, there is a possibility that further deformation will cause softening in the material ("work softening"). recent work showed that cyclic torsion applied to drawn products causes changes in the subsequent tensile behavior of low carbon steel, and that the effect will depend on the previous "history" of the material. for annealed samples, the cyclic torsion leads to an increase in the yield strength, but does not affect the tensile strength and elongation. for the case of previously drawn bars, the cyclic deformation caused a decrease in the yield and tensile strength and an increase in the total elongation. the present paper discusses the dislocation structure changes associated with different strain paths in mild steel.

Abstract: The work hardening of metals subjected to complex processing paths is different from that in monotonic deformation. Changes in the deformation mode can promote transients in the strain-hardening rate, leading to anomalous softening or hardening of the material. This paper investigates the influence of strain path changes on the tensile behavior of drawn 0.12% steel rods. Annealed or predrawn specimens were submitted to cyclic twisting and then tested in tension. The results show that the cyclic deformation causes changes in the mechanical behavior of the metal, and the effect will depend on the previous "history" of the material. Cyclic twisting causes hardening in annealed samples, but leads to softening of the drawn bars. These phenomena are in line with the corresponding substructural aspects.

Abstract: the removal of important textile dyes by turnip peroxidase (tnp) was evaluated. the textile effluents besides the residual dyes contain also chemical auxiliaries such as salts, dispersing and wetting agents. the effect of these was evaluated in the removal of the dyes reactive blue 21 and reactive blue 19 by tnp in synthetic effluents. a decrease of the efficency decolorization was observed. the action of the enzyme on colour removal of dye mixture was equivalent to the dyes alone. the chemical demand of oxygen in the effluent after enzymatic treatment had a significant increase in relation to the untreated effluent.

Journal of Applied Oral Science , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-77572009000600008
Abstract: objective: this study evaluated in vitro the influence of an eugenol-based sealer (endofill) on the retention of stainless steel prefabricated posts cemented with zinc phosphate and resin-based (panavia f) cements after different periods of root canal obturation, using the pull-out test. material and methods: sixty upper canines were decoronated and the roots were embedded in resin blocks. the specimens were distributed into 3 groups, according to the period elapsed between canal obturation and post cementation: group i - immediately; group ii - 72 h and group iii - 4 months. the groups were subdivided according to the type of cement used for post cementation: a - zinc phosphate and b - panavia f. following the experimental periods, specimens were subjected to pullout test in an instron machine with application of tensile force at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min until post dislodgement. the maximum forces required for post removal were recorded (kn) and means were subjected to statistical analysis by 2-way anova and tukey-kramer test (α=0.001) results: there were statistically significant differences (p<0.01) between the posts cemented with zinc phosphate cement (0.2112 kn) and panavia f (0.0501 kn). however, no statistically significant differences (p>0.05) were found between the three post cementation periods, regardless of the cement. conclusions: it was concluded that the eugenol-based sealer influenced the tensile strength of the posts cemented with the resin cement, but had no influence on the time waited between root canal obturation and post space preparation/post cementation.

Abstract: in this work we aimed to evaluate the effect of sex and finishing systems on individual characteristics of carcass, instrumental and chemical meat measurements of texel × corriedalle lambs. ninety animals were used; 45 non-castrated rams and 45 females. lambs were kept on pasture with mother to weaning (70 days) and assigned to one of three production systems: pasture, pasture with mother, and on pasture receiving a soy peel supplement at 1% of live weight basis. after slaughtering, carcasses were stored under vacuum in a freezer at 1 oc for ph, marbling, fat condition, color and texture measurements. the longissimus dorsi muscle was separated from the half carcass to proceed instrumental and chemical analysis. analysis of variance and tukey test were used for comparison of the mean at 5% significance. there was no interaction for sex and finishing system on carcass characteristics. similarly, there was no interaction between sex and termination system as related to instrumental measurements and meat chemical composition. conversely, the isolated factors affected significantly the shearing force, moisture and fat content. rams meat and the meat of the lambs kept on pasture with mother presented better resistance to shearing force and moisture, but less fat content.
