Sanches, Maria Teresa C.;
Jornal de Pediatria , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0021-75572004000700007
Abstract: objective: to address aspects associated with the early detection and clinical management of oral disorders in breastfeeding. source of data: review of bibliographic sources (research articles, technical books, dissertations and national and international publications) focused on the clinical management of oral disorders in breastfed babies. summary of the findings: suction disorders may lead to inadequate actions that can compromise the mother/baby relation during breastfeeding. healthcare professionals may have an important role in these cases, as they can early detect such disorders. for that end, they must be able to assess breastfeeding and be prepared to manage oral disorders clinically. in the clinical management of babies with breastfeeding difficulties significant aspects of the oral physiology and breastfeeding observation should be considered. we stress the importance of an interdisciplinary team work and the need for oral training and specialized care in most complex cases. conclusion: the baby's oral disorders in breastfeeding can be corrected if they were early detected. healthcare professionals may help mothers and babies to overcome these problems if they have knowledge that enable them to perform right clinical procedures.

Sodium piperidine-1-carbodithioate dihydrate
Ana C. Mafud,Maria Teresa P. Gambardella
Acta Crystallographica Section E , 2011, DOI: 10.1107/s1600536811022604
Abstract: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, Na+·C6H10NS2 ·2H2O, is composed of a sodium cation, a piperidinedithiocarbamate anion which exhibits positional disorder, and two lattice water molecules. The atoms of the piperidine ring are divided over two sites with occupancy factors of 0.554 (6) and 0.446 (6). In the crystal, the sodium cation (coordination number of 6) and the piperidinedithiocarbamate anion are linked, forming an infinite two-dimensional network extending parallel to (001). O—H...S hydrogen bonds, involving the lattice water molecules, also aid in stabilizing the crystal sructure.
Individual factors related to chronic condition in Portuguese adolescents: Highlights from the HBSC/WHO study  [PDF]
Teresa Santos, Margarida Gaspar de Matos, Maria Celeste Sim?es, Helena Fonseca, Maria do Céu Machado
Health (Health) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/health.2013.511A2005
Abstract:

Background: Adolescence includes a period (10 to 19 years) of profound biopsychosocial changes, constituting potentially difficult challenges, which may become more pronounced in the presence of a chronic condition and its limitations. Responses are not homogeneous and can be quite variable, depending on various specific individual factors. Research comparing adolescents with or without chronic illness, or comparing across different conditions, has been contradictory, not confirming a direct relationship between the degree of suffering and the chronic condition. Objective: To characterize and assess the impact of 1) having a chronic condition (CC) and 2) how CC affects school participation; and its association with life satisfaction and perception of wellness, controlling for demographic factors: age, gender and family socioeconomic status (SES). Methods: 5050 Portuguese adolescents with an average age of 14 years participated in the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children/WHO (HBSC). Results: The majority of the adolescents with CC reported that their conditions did not affect school participation. Adolescents with CC who indicated that CC affected school participation felt more frequently unwell and presented lower life satisfaction. Being a boy, younger and having high family socio economic status (SES) were identified as predictors of higher life satisfaction; on the other hand, being a girl, older, having lower SES, living with CC and feeling that CC affects school participation are predictors for feeling more frequently unwell. Conclusions: These

O processo de desenvolvimento profissional visto pelos professores mentores
Rold?o, Maria do Céu;Leite, Teresa;
Ensaio: Avalia??o e Políticas Públicas em Educa??o , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-40362012000300004
Abstract: in this paper we present and discuss the results of 74 reflections made by mentors regarding the training workshops in which they took part. the results show that teachers mentors consider that the training contributed to their professional development and, through them, to the professional development of teachers who they supervised during the probation period. however teachers mentors refer considerably less to the contribution of training towards the organizational development of schools and foresee little impact at this level. as for the training process, they consider it useful and of quality, valuing mainly the documents worked on during sessions and the strategies used.

Abstract: objective: to assess the result of the care provided by an interdisciplinary team on the control of hypertension. methods: in a health unit, 88 patients were treated by an interdisciplinary team for 12 months. visits to the physician or nurse occurred every one to three months, and to the nutritionist whenever necessary. educational lectures were delivered regularly. total cholesterol and fasting plasma glucose levels were determined at baseline and at 12 months. clinical and laboratory data were analyzed and blood pressure was compared at baseline and at six and 12 months, and total cholesterol and plasma glucose were compared at baseline and at 12 months. results: females accounted for 79.41% of the sample and the mean age was 58±9.90 years. median blood pressure (bp) was 166.00/96.5mmhg at baseline, 146.75/85.25mmhg at 6 months (p<0,000) and 134.00/80.00mmhg at 12 months (p<0.000). the rate of bp<140/90mmhg increased from 10.23% to 48.81% (p<0.000). median total cholesterol decreased from 217mg/dl to 194.00mg/dl (p<0.004) and median blood glucose from 101mg/dl to 95mg/dl (ns). at baseline, 50% of the patients received two antihypertensive drugs, 25% received three, and 5.68% received four, whereas at 12 months these percentages were 21.18%, 29.41% and 32.94%, respectively. conclusion: the care provided by an interdisciplinary team may significantly improve the control of hypertension and of associated cardiovascular risk factors.
