Culturas escolares, culturas de infancia e culturas familiares: as socializa??es e a escolariza??o no entretecer destas culturas
Barbosa, Maria Carmen Silveira;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302007000300020
Abstract: this paper seeks to articulate the impasses in child schooling and the contributions on the childhood, family and school cultures in our contemporaneous societies. it proposes to explore the new dimensions of being a child and living a childhood in this historical moment and to rethink school socialization by crisscrossing the school cultures, considered legitimate, and some family and childhood cultures still considered illegitimate. knowing childhood and family cultures helps to widen our understanding of brazilian children and suggests another possibility of building a pedagogical project that intertwines school, childhood and family cultures in our contemporaneous society. we can only formulate an "education of quality" if we establish quality indicators socially shared among these three discourses.
A leitura e seus poderes: um olhar sobre dois programas nacionais de incentivo à leitura
Silveira, Rosa Maria Hessel;
Educar em Revista , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-40602010000500006
Abstract: this study aims at making a comparative interpretative analysis of two national programmes aiming at encouraging reading: pnl (reading national plan) from portugal and pnll (book and reading national plan) from brazil seeking to understand reading, its useful and redeeming qualities, and the best way to promote it socially and scholarly. from the theoretical standpoint, the paper uses the foucauldian discourse understanding as a truth making stance which is subject to external and internal statement restrictions, and it seeks to make connections with other current reading discourses. we have also used some tools from the critical discursive analysis to assess how truths about reading and its power are reassured in socially distinguished texts while pointing to some uniformity and particularity in both plans trying to unnaturalise them.

Dissolved organic carbon and bioavailability of N and P as indicators of soil quality
Silveira, Maria Lucia Azevedo;
Scientia Agricola , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90162005000500017
Abstract: soil quality has become an important issue in soil science. considerable attempts have been made to define soil quality, but a general concept has not yet been accepted by the scientific community. the selection of quantitative indices for soil quality is extremely difficult, and a considerable number of chemical, physical, and biochemical properties have been suggested as potential indicators of soil quality. because soil organic matter (som) can be associated with different soil chemical, physical and biological processes, it has been widely considered as one of the best soil quality indicator. land use can significantly influence dynamics of organic carbon and n, p, and s cycle. however, changes in total soil organic carbon (soc) contents in response to land use may be difficult to detect because of the natural soil variability. in the short to medium term, biological properties and readily decomposable fractions of soc, such as dissolved organic carbon (doc), are much more sensitive to soil management than is som as a whole, and can be used as a key indicator of soil natural functions. despite the fact that labile c accounts for a small portion of the total organic matter in the soils, doc is the most mobile and important c-source for microorganisms, and can easily reflect the effects of land use on soil quality. although several methods are used to characterize doc, the factors influencing mineralization and bioavailability of elements associated with organic matter (n, p, and s) remains unclear. future research should focus on the processes that govern doc and nutrient dynamics and how they affect soil quality.
Livros perigosos para garotos e maravilhosos para meninas: O gênero social diferenciando o gênero discursivo
Hessel Silveira,Rosa Maria;
Revista signos , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-09342010000300009
Abstract: self-help books are a discourse genre in proliferation in the contemporary world, and titles target children with counselling, suggestion for activities and behaviour; informative texts can also fit in it. among these books are works addressing separately boys and girls, such as 'o maravilhoso livro das meninas' and 'o livro perigoso para garotos'. although these works have similar structures, they differ in relation to the cultural representations of the intended reader: boys or girls. in this respect, this study aims at contrasting these works by identifying distinctive marks in them that gender, as a sex-related social category, affects this particular discourse genre. studies of social gender and studies of discourse genres ground the analysis. it follows that there is a dichotomy of themes as far as how-to teaching in informative text themes is concerned as well as in recommendations of books and films.
