Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2015.64052
Abstract: This study presents the results of the preliminary tests performed using a kerma-area product (KAP) meter in order to verify its usefulness as a monitor chamber in a clinical X ray system, which will be used in ionization chambers’ quality control program. The tests performed were repeatability, surface measurement uniformity, linearity with tube current, measurement variation changing the distance and field size, KAP chamber radiation attenuation, and energy dependence. The KAP meter has presented a good repeatability (a maximum variation of 0.4%); its surface has a homogeneous response (a maximum variation of 1.0% among the different irradiated regions); the response is linear with the tube current and the variation of the PKA along the distance is less than 3.43%. On the other hand, the results obtained for chamber attenuation and energy dependence show that some corrections must be applied when the measurements are made. The results have shown a good performance of the KAP meter, confirming that it is possible to use this instrument as a monitor chamber. However, it is important to highlight that some correction factors for energy dependence and chamber radiation attenuation must be considered.

Abstract: the objective of this study was to assess the incidence of fungi and asepsis interference in sweet pepper seeds submitted to incubation for the accelerated aging test (traditional with salt solution). samples from five different batches of magali r cultivar sweet pepper were used, submitted or not to asepsis with 1% naocl for three minutes, incubated or not to 41oc for 72 hours in saturated nacl solution or water. the assessment was performed by means of germination and health tests (freezing filter paper). the percentage of aspergillus spp., rhizopus sp. and cladosporium sp. fungi, after incubation for the traditional aging test, was higher than the assessment made before the incubation, that did not occur when salt solution was used. the asepsis, when accomplished before the seed incubation, was efficient in minimizing the incidence of aspergillus spp. the utilization of nacl solution in substitution to water in the accelerated aging test inhibited the growth of aspergillus spp., rhizopus sp. and cladosporium sp.
Barbosa, Regina Maria;Facchini, Regina;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2009001400011
Abstract: this article focuses on the relationship between health care for women who have sex with women and representations of gender, sexuality, and the body. the study used ethnographic observation and in-depth interviews held from 2003 to 2006, with 30 women ranging from 18 to 45 years of age, belonging to different social segments, backgrounds, and sexual identities, living in greater metropolitan s?o paulo. analysis of the material pointed to greater difficulty in accessing gynecological care for lower-income women, those who had never had sex with men, or those with masculine body language. not only the negative representations and experiences in relation to health services, but also identity constructions concerning gender and sexuality, are related to difficulties in accessing health care. although a large share of the relevant international literature emphasizes the relationship between homophobia and decreased access to health services, the findings suggest that although situations involving discrimination are a reality, they were not considered impediments to the search for care, and were more associated with reporting of erotic practices and preferences at the services.

Regulatory Scenario for the Acceptance of Uncertainty Analysis Methodologies for the LB-LOCA and the Brazilian Approach
Maria Regina Galetti
Science and Technology of Nuclear Installations , 2008, DOI: 10.1155/2008/312154
Abstract: The task of regulatory body staff reviewing and assessing a realistic large break loss-of-coolant accident evaluation model is discussed, facing the actual regulatory licensing environment related to the acceptance of the analysis of emergency core cooling system performance. Especially, focus is directed to the question of how to fulfill the requirement of quantifying the uncertainty in the calculated results when they are compared to the acceptance criteria for this system. As it is recognized that the regulation governing the loss-of-coolant accident analyses was originally developed by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, a description of its evolution is presented. When using a realistic evaluation model to analyze the loss-of-coolant accident, different approaches have been used in the licensing arena. The Brazilian regulatory body has concluded that, in the current environment, the independent regulatory calculation is recognized as a relevant support for the staff decision within the licensing framework of a realistic analysis.
