Esposito, Ana Paula Gomes;Kahhale, Edna Maria Peters;
Psicologia: Reflex?o e Crítica , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-79722006000200020
Abstract: this qualitative research analyzes the construction process of subjectivity of nine sex professionals who have been interviewed, grasping the process of generating meanings in the context of hiv in their daily work. amongst these nine women, four were hiv carriers. seven nodes of signification were identified and analyzed (family as an element that causes and maintains their activity as sex professionals; varying identities in different frequented environments: separation of work from affectivity; contradictions that were experienced concerning work; aids as a limiting factor for pleasure in their lives and as an impediment to continue to practice their activities; factors associated with the increase of vulnerability to hiv; health care as a facilitator in the process of adhering to treatment and the interview as an appeasing approach for interventions). while ambivalent and contradictory feelings predominated in the seronegatives who were interviewed, a polarization towards the displeasures of the activity was observed in the seropostives, making it unfeasible to continue such activity after becoming ill by aids.

Acta Botanica Brasilica , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33062006000100005
Abstract: a floristic survey was carried out in a semideciduous vegetation on s?o josé plateau with the objective of amplifying the knowledge of its angiospermic flora and establishing its relationship with other vegetations types in the semi-arid region of northeast brazil. the flora was composed by 192 taxa belonging to 130 genera and 60 families. euphorbiaceae, caesalpiniaceae, myrtaceae, mimosaceae fabaceae and cactaceae were the families with the highest numbers of species. a cluster analysis indicated influence of the soil type in the distribution of species in the semi-arid region and separated a group of indicator species associated to sandy soils, composed of caesalpinia microphylla mart. (caesalpiniaceae), bocoa mollis (benth.) r.s. cowan (fabaceae), byrsonima gardneriana a. juss. (malpighiaceae) and zanthoxylum stelligerum turic. (rutaceae). the flora of the area was related to that of the thorn (caatinga) and non thorn deciduous vegetation (carrasco) growing in areas with sandy soils. however, the high number of myrtaceae species, unusual in caatinga, and the semideciduous character of the vegetation and presence of cactaceae and bromeliaceae suggest that the study area probably represents the end of a gradient that begins in sedimentary areas placed at smaller altitudes.

Brazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-86702011000400018
Abstract: due to hiv care improvement, discordant couples more frequently seek help in order to conceive their own biological child. besides the advance of antiretroviral therapy, unprotected intercourse is not a complete safe option, carrying a low but still present risk of hiv transmission. we report 10 serodiscordant couples in whom the male partner is hiv positive, submitted to sperm washing and intrauterine insemination. the procedure resulted in four pregnancies and no hiv transmission to mother or child was observed. techniques of assisted reproduction can help hiv discordant couples to conceive biological offspring and is a safer option than unprotected intercourse.
In vitro evaluation of apical sealing in root apex treated with demineralization agents and retrofiled with mineral trioxide aggregate through marginal dye leakage
Kubo, Claudio Hideki;Gomes, Ana Paula Martins;Mancini, Maria Nadir Gasparoto;
Brazilian Dental Journal , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-64402005000300003
Abstract: the purpose of this study was to evaluate the apical seal in root apex treated with different demineralization agents and retrofilled with mineral trioxide aggregate (mta) using marginal dye leakage. fifty-six, human single-rooted teeth were instrumented, filled, resected and had retrofilling cavities prepared with ultrasonic tips. demineralizing agents were applied before the apical cavities were retrofilled with pro root mta. the specimens were assigned to 4 groups (n=14), as follows: group 1 (no demineralizing agent); group 2 (35% phosphoric acid, for 15 s); group 3 (17% edta solution, ph 7, for 3 min); and group 4 (24% edta gel, ph 7, for 4 min). the extension of dye (2% rhodamine b, at 37°c, for 24 h) penetration was measured in millimeters using a stereomicroscope. results were statistically analyzed by anova and tukey's test at 5% significance level. among the experimental groups, the least extension of dye penetration was observed in group 1 (1.89 mm), followed by groups 2 (2.18 mm), 4 (2.54 mm) and 3 (2.64 mm). no statistically significant differences (p<0.05) were found in marginal microleakage among groups 1, 2 and 4 and groups 2, 3 and 4. based on the results obtained in this study, it may be concluded that the application of demineralizing agents cannot be recommended when mta is used in periradicular surgeries.
