Martins, Carmen Lívia da Silva;Gandolfi, Lenora;Tauil, Pedro Luiz;Pican?o, Marilúcia de Almeida Rocha;Araujo, Maria Ophelia Galvo de;Pratesi, Riccardo;
Revista Brasileira de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-72032006001000006
Abstract: purpose: to verify the existence of association between sub-fertility or infertility and concurrent celiac disease in women attended at a reproductive disorders out-patient clinic of a general hospital. methods: this was a case-control study in which a group of 200 women with difficulty in conceiving was compared with a control group with 400 women who were treated at the same hospital for various reasons, but not for fertility problems. both groups were submitted to the anti-endomysium antibody protocol using the indirect immunofluorescence method. whenever positive, the diagnosis was further confirmed by endoscopic duodenal biopsy and histopathological exams. results: anti-endomysium testing resulted positive in three patients (1.5%) within the group of women with difficulty in conceiving. diagnosis of celiac disease was subsequently confirmed by histopathological exams of the duodenal mucosa. all the control patients presented negative results in the serological exams. conclusion: celiac disease was observed only in women with difficulty in conceiving, a relevant fact indicating that this disease may be more common in infertile women. however, new studies with a greater sample size are needed to confirm this possible association.

Abstract: this paper discusses the specificities of the relationship that subjects deeply rooted in a predominantly oral culture establish with the written language. it uses the results of a completed research aimed at retracing the reading/listening public and the different forms of listening to/reading cordel literature between 1930 and 1950 in pernambuco. it is argued that several factors, mainly reading aloud, intensively and collectively, and the role of memorization, favored by the reading situations and the narrative and formal structure of the very poems, made the relations between both illiterates and semi-literates and the reading of cordel enjoyable and relaxed. such practices allowed people who, originally, were not very familiar with the reading world to experience literacy practices, that is, to experience situations where they used printed words.

Abstract: background: patients submitted to bone marrow transplantation (bmt) need a safe venous access for the infusion of bone marrow. the implantation of a central venous catheter is a part of therapy, with hickman?s catheter as the most commonly used type; however, its presence entails risks, the most preoccupying of which is infection. objective: integrative literature review aimed to look for and evaluate evidence on nursing care related to hickman?s catheter. method: articles were selected from the lilacs, medline and cinahl databases and from the journal bone marrow transplantation. the sample consisted of 18 articles. results: polyurethane dressings are recommended, to be changed every 7 days. the observed blood collection method was through discarding, in which the cyclosporine dose should not be collected from the same pathway it was infused in. reducing the number of catheter manipulations is considered an efficient measure for infection prevention and control. conclusion: the evidence taken from the studies that were analyzed can be of help in the implementation of efficient nursing care related to hickman?s catheter.

Poveda, Vanessa de Brito;Galvo, Cristina Maria;
Escola Anna Nery , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-81452005000300007
Abstract: this research aimed to identify the frequency of surgical site infection (ssi) in patients submitted to potentially contaminated, elective gastrectomy, at the gastric surgery specialty of a school hospital, in the period from 1998 to 2002. a retrospective study was carried out by means of an information survey in medical records. surgical site infection was detected in 17 patients (9.4%) out of 181 analyzed cases, 23.5% of which were classified as superficial incisional infection; 52.9% as profound incisional infection and 23.5% as organ/space infection; 41.2% of the infection cases developed between 6 and 10 days after the surgery and different microorganisms were isolated in the requested cultures. it was evidenced that the frequency of ssi in potentially contaminated surgeries is according to literature. however, what topography is concerned, most of the detected cases were classified as profound incisional infection, while literature reports that two thirds of ssi are confined to the incision.

Abstract: taking into consideration that even illiterate individuals make social uses of reading and writing, and that school has an important role in such uses, this study investigated the contribution that pre-school education has to literacy in terms of social practice for illiterate children. in a psychological perspective, literacy was examined based on the knowledge of texts and their media. children aged 7 and 8 with different levels of schooling (three years, two years, one year, and no pre-school education) were asked to identify different text media (task 1) and to discriminate texts of different genres (task 2). we observed that children had limited knowledge of texts and their media, and that the years of pre-school education did not promote the development of such knowledge.
História do Brasil para o "belo sexo": apropria??es do olhar estrangeiro para leitoras do século XIX
Jinzenji, M?nica Yumi;Galvo, Ana Maria de Oliveira;
Revista Brasileira de História , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-01882010000100007
Abstract: this paper analyzes some views on brazilian history produced and appropriated in three historiographical works from the first half of 19th century: history of brazil, by r. southey, histoire du brésil, by a. beauchamp and the content of history of brazil published in the weekly publication o mentor das brasileiras (the brazilian women mentor). the analysis shows the work of translation and adaptation of texts as well the transformation in its material forms by the authors. the brazilian version of this history, directed toward female readers, has as result a shorter text without some subjects as indians cannibalism and polygamy and the portuguese conquests of 16th century. this indicates the adequacy of the newspaper to its readers and its enrollment in a wider political project that aims to affirm brazil as an independent and civilized nation.
