Castro, Anselmo Ferreira de;Silva, Glória Maria Pereira da;Costa, Stella Regina Reis da;Santos, Sílvio Francisco dos;
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132006000200018
Abstract: during the assessments carried out by the authors at the diverse laboratories pertaining to the network of accredited laboratories - known as the brazilian calibration network (rbc) - the authors verified the difficulties that these laboratories had in meeting the requirements of nbr iso/iec 17025:2001 (standard), related to the maintenance of documents in the electronic media. more and more laboratories are substituting traditional control with electronic document control, which allows for more agility in the recovery of information. these laboratories implement policies and procedures; however, they still feel insecure, in some way, as to how to meet all of these requirements, thereby giving rise to difficulties in the implementation of such. the aim of this paper is to discuss the control of documents stored in the electronic media, adopting requirement 4.3 of the standard as the reference, and aiming, in this manner, to harmonize the assessment process of the procedures of document management in the electronic media, and to assist the laboratories in the interpretation of the standard, so that they may implement systems that are adequate to their actual necessities and to their structural size, while at the same time complying with the referred to requirement. this work will not broach the treatment given to the records (requirement 4.12 of the standard), facts (requirement 5.4.7) nor to the electronic transmission of results (requirement 5.10.7), leaving these subjects for posterior discussions.

This article analyses the relationship between health and work of the Agentes de Combate às Endemias (ACE - endemic diseases combat agents) of Funda o Nacional de Saúde (FUNASA) who work in the city of Nova Igua u (Southeastern Brazil) and who were readmitted after being dismissed. It aims to give visibility to the questions which involved their reintegration to work and points to the workers' main worries related to their work situation. The methodology was participant research. Collective interviews were conducted, in which the main themes were identified and used in the research. These themes are related to political interference in their actions, their work conditions and institutional and professional rewards. The workers perceive the continuous precariousness of their job due to political interference and to political and administrative decentralization. Besides that, there is a professional devaluation of these workers from both the institution and the population in general

Gomes, Gabriela Schmitz;Randi, áurea Maria;Puchalski, ?ngelo;Santos, Daisy da Silva;Reis, Maurício Sedrez dos;
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132006000100001
Abstract: the objective of this study was to analyze the existing variability in the germination of individuals' spores collected from two natural populations of dicksonia sellowiana in southern brazil. the largest intrapopulational variation was observed for the spores germination. these results suggested the existence of adaptative strategies that favored the gradual and continuous entrance of new individuals into the gametophytic population. the behavior of the individuals of the species within each population followed a similar pattern of initial development, in spite of conspicuous differences in the population structure. this showed a low differentiation between the populations and the existence of adaptative strategies which were common to both communities.

Revista Brasileira de Farmacognosia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-695X2006000500006
Abstract: eugenia malaccensis l. (syzygium malaccensis merr. & perry), popularly known in brazil as jambo vermelho, is a very common tree and one of the medicinal plants of alagoas state, brazil. previous chemical studies with e. malaccensis have been carried out with native plants from asia, oceania, and central america. this work describes the chemical study of e. malaccensis l., a specimen collected in alagoas state. considering that studies on the molluscicidal and larvicidal potential of e. malaccensis were not reported, this work aimed to test its molluscicidal activity against biomphalaria glabrata snails and larvicidal activity against aedes aegypti mosquitos. the ethanolic stem bark and leaf extracts were inactive towards aedes aegypti larvae. the ethanolic stem bark and leaf extract were active against biomphalaria glabrata with cl50 = 42.53 and 41.90 mg/ml, respectively. 5,7,3',4',5'-penta-hydroxy-flavonol (1), 5,7,3',5'-tetra-hydroxy-4'-methoxy-flavonol (2), 3,4,5-tri-hydroxybenzoic acid (3) and 3-acetyl-urs-12-en-28-oic acid (4) were isolated and identified from the leaves and stem bark. the acid 3b-o-acetyl-urs-12-en-28-oic is for the first time isolated from the genus eugenia. the structures of the compounds have been established by ir, 1h and 13c nmr spectral analysis and by comparison with literature data.

Abstract: introduction: the standard care for these lower extremity injuries with exposed bone is vascularized tissue transfer; however, this option is often not available or is technically difficult. the advent of dermal regeneration template, a bioengineered skin substitute, provides a remarkable alternative to the traditional reconstructive choices. cases report: the authors report two patients from a total of 246 patients who had burns involving their lower extremities, admitted to s. josé hospital burn unit, between january 2007 and december 2008. both patients had bilateral deep burn injuries with exposed bone affecting the anterior surface of lower leg and were treated with tangential excision of the burn eschar and placement of the dermal regeneration template. four weeks later, after engraftment of the matrix, the thin outer layer of silicone was removed and the epidermal coverage was restored with a split thin skin graft. stable wound cover was achieved and no further surgical procedures were required to maintain wound closure. conclusion: the use of a dermal replacement matrix expands reconstructive options for difficult burn (and non burn) wounds, preventing prolonged, staged procedures, allowing successful coverage of vital structures without the use of a flap and, as in these particular cases, the salvage of the extremity.
