The Relationship of Positive Affect with Resilience and Self-Efficacy in Life Skills in Italian Adolescents  [PDF]
Elisabetta Sagone, Maria Luisa Indiana
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2017.813142
Abstract: The main purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships of positive affect with dimensions of resilience and perceived self-efficacy in life skills in a sample of 147 Italian healthy adolescents. We used the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), the Resiliency Attitudes and Skills Profile (RASP), and the Perceived Self-Efficacy Scales in Life Skills. Statistical analyses indicated that adolescents with high positive affect reported higher levels of perceived self-efficacy in life skills than those with low positive affect; in addition, adolescents with high positive affect reached higher levels of resilience (that is, adaptability and engagement) than those with low positive affect. Given the relationship of positive affect both with dimensions of resilience and perceived self-efficacy in life skills, future investigations could better understand the functioning of protective factors actively engaged in facing up to the transition from childhood to adolescence, in line with the flourishing approach in supporting the promotion of psychological well-being and the increasing of individual’s bio-psycho-social skills.
Psychological Well-Being and Self-Efficacy in Life Skills among Italian Preadolescents with Positive Body Esteem: Preliminary Results of an Intervention Project  [PDF]
Elisabetta Sagone, Maria Elvira De Caroli, Maria Luisa Indiana, Salvatore Luciano Orazio Fichera
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2018.96084
Abstract: The main purpose of this project will be to increase the psychological well-being, self-efficacy in life skills, and body esteem in a group of Italian preadolescents who will participate in the life skills training. This project will be divided into three phases consisting of a verification of the changes that will take place following the realization of laboratory activities useful to enhance the psychological well-being of students in the scholastic context. For the first phase, an exploratory analysis of the main life skills, psychological well-being and body esteem levels was carried out with 49 participants aged 12 to 14 years recruited from three classes of a Public Junior School in Catania (Sicily, Italy). We used the Comprehensive Inventory of Thriving-CIT (Andolfi et al., 2017), the Perceived Self-efficacy Scales in Life Skills (Sagone & Indiana, 2017), and the Body Esteem Scale (Confalonieri et al., 2008). Results showed positive correlations between perceived self-efficacy in life skills and almost all factors of psychological well-being, as well as positive correlations between perceived self-efficacy in life skills and body esteem; in detail, the weight satisfaction was mainly related with self-efficacy in managing of negative emotions and poorly with self-efficacy in interpersonal communication; in addition, the external evaluation from the others regarding own body image was positively correlated with self-efficacy in managing of positive emotions. In the intermediate phase, these preadolescents will attend the specific training about the life skills during the school time in order to increase these abilities and enhance well-being at school. At the third phase, we will compare the final results with the initial ones to verify the efficacy of the abovementioned training. This project will be useful to deep the role of life skills as mediators between psychological well-being and self-esteem.
Nexo , 2011, DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5377/nexo.v24i1.596
Abstract: In this work, we performed the separation of natural organic matter (MON) present in the raw water that supplies two water treatment plants, one from river (Boaco) and one from lake (Juigalpa), in two types: hydrophobic, formed by the fractions very hydrophobic (MH) and slightly hydrophobic (LH); and the hydrophilic type constituted by the charged (CHA) and neutral (NEU) fractions. These waters obtained from each fraction were subjected to a process of coagulation-flocculation-sedimentation on a laboratory scale using aluminum sulfate as a coagulant, wherein the hydrophilic fraction (CHA and NEU) was poorly removed (< 35 %) in comparison with the hydrophobic one (> 65 %). Surrogate parameters were used to characterise this MON such as dissolved organic carbon (COD), colour, ultraviolet absorbance (UV254) and specific ultraviolet absorbance (SUVA). Determination of SUVA values indicates a mixture of hydrophobic and hydrophilic organic matter in both raw waters as their values of specific ultraviolet absorbance (SUVA) were between 2-4 L/mg-m; however the hydrophobic fraction (MH + LH) was the predominant one, 63.6 % and 65 % measured as COD in dry season for Boaco and Juigalpa respectively, in rainy season, the percentage were a little higher (71.2 % and 66.1 %). Finally, it was found that the river water (Boaco) contains higher concentrations of trihalomethanes (89-166 μg/L) than the water lake (Juigalpa) (28-80 μg/L) after being chlorinated. Found that the hydrophobic fraction was the major contributor in 68.5 % (Boaco) and 78.6 % (Juigalpa) to the formation of trihalomethanes for dry season in both treated water. In rainy season, the THMs formation were a little higher.

Schmidt, Maria Luisa Sandoval;
Psicologia: Ciência e Profiss?o , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-98932011000300014
Abstract: this essay analyzes carl rogers’ contributions and vision issues about groups, the conceptions of group meeting and community meeting and the scopes of their practices, locating them in relation to the history of the person centered approach constitution, as well as to the concepts of power and politics developed by rogers from the psychotherapy focused on the client. from the explicitness of the plot ideas and group practices is then derived an interpretation of the presence of utopia and ideology in the rogerian thought. this interpretation is relative to the constructive and negative aspects of utopia and ideology in its relations of opposition and complementarity, as conceptualized by paul ricoeur.
Rela??o família-paciente no transtorno obsessivo-compulsivo
Guedes, Maria Luisa;
Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-44462001000600019
Abstract: this article is based on the notion that obsessive-compulsive behaviors are perpetuated by negative reinforcement. the assessment of such contingencies inevitably leads to the examination of family's interactions, crucial for establishing the severity and prognosis of the disorder . the notion of family accommodation is analyzed as reinforcement contingencies that act upon family members and patients. family members, often desperate and unaware of behavior practices provide inconsistent and intermittent consequences for the patient's behaviors. as a result, abnormal behaviors worsen, get chronic, and there's a general deterioration of the quality of life. it is suggested that, as a part of the routine, the clinician should evaluate systematically and carefully the family's interactions in order to plan and assess effectively his/her therapeutic interventions.
